Some saunas are built to sit in a basement. These are built to sit in a yard, through a Canadian winter. Dundalk LeisureCraft has been building in Melancthon, Ontario since 2004, and the Canadian Timber Collection is its solid Eastern White Cedar line — barrel, cabin and pod saunas, cold plunge tubs, wood-fired hot tubs and cedar showers, all from one family-owned workshop. Every unit built to order.

Dundalk LeisureCraft Canadian Timber Cedar Saunas — Built to Live Outdoors
The Canadian Timber Collection is LeisureCraft's outdoor line — cut from solid Eastern White Cedar and assembled at their Melancthon, Ontario workshop — not pulled off a shelf.
Eastern White Cedar is the reason this line exists. It resists rot and insects on its own. It holds its shape through repeated freeze-thaw cycles. And it needs no chemical treatment at all — nothing to pressure-treat, nothing to re-apply every spring. Left alone it weathers to a silver-gray; stained, it holds more of its original color. Either way it’s the same cedar underneath — the color is cosmetic, the rot resistance isn’t.
You can build the whole sequence out of one catalogue: somewhere to get hot, somewhere to get cold, and somewhere to rinse off in between. Barrel saunas in four sizes, cabin saunas in three footprints, a pod, a cube and an indoor line, cold plunge tubs, a wood-fired hot tub and cedar outdoor showers — all from one workshop, in the same wood, so a sauna and a plunge tub bought together actually match.
Three things to know before you fall in love with a model. Nothing here is stocked. Your order joins the production queue in Melancthon and your unit gets cut for it — a few weeks to a couple of months, depending on the model and the season. You’ll get a real build date before you pay, not after. The heater isn’t included: every model prices without one, and you’ll choose it separately and budget for it on top. And because each unit is cut for your order, we can’t take it back and neither can the factory — there’s no shelf to put it on. That’s the honest cost of a sauna built for your yard instead of pulled off a pallet, and it’s why we’d rather spend twenty minutes on the phone with you first.
The Complete Canadian Timber Sauna and Cold Plunge Lineup
Four families, one wood. Pick by the shape that fits your yard and the number of people who will actually use it.
Cabin Saunas
Standing height, room to moveFull headroom and a peaked roof. Granby is the compact two-to-three-person; Palmer widens the interior; Georgian is the largest, with a 353 cubic foot room. Georgian can add a changeroom or a covered porch, which turns it from a sauna into somewhere you get changed, sit down and cool off.
Pod and Indoor Saunas
When the footprint is the constraintThe MiniPOD is an arched cedar shell with a triple-layer roof for tight yards. Luna is a square shell with LeisureCraft’s signature rounded corners and a wide front window. The Element indoor saunas come in three sizes in thermally treated Thermo Grandis for rooms, not gardens — Nook, Loft and Studio.
Cold Plunge, Hot Tub and Showers
The other half of contrast therapyThe Flow hides its chiller inside the cedar housing, so there is no equipment box sitting beside the tub. The Starlight is wood-fired, holds 233 gallons and needs no electricity at all — the reason it suits a cottage with no service to the yard. Sierra and Savannah are cedar rinse showers that run off a garden hose. Shower hardware is sold separately on both, and the premium hot-and-cold set may need a plumber.
Greyed models are part of the same Canadian Timber range and we can order them for you — they simply aren't listed online yet. Call us and we'll price one against the models above.
The Best LeisureCraft Outdoor Cedar Saunas — Staff Picks
Four we recommend most often, and the specific situation each one is right for.

CT Harmony Barrel
Four people, a 2m barrel, and the shortest crate in the barrel range. If this is your first outdoor sauna and you want the classic look without committing to a six-person footprint, start here.
View CT Harmony Barrel
CT Georgian Cabin
Up to six people, 353 cubic feet, and full standing headroom. The one to choose if the sauna is a social space, not a solo ritual — and the cabin we most often build with a changeroom.
View CT Georgian Cabin
CT Luna
A 7-foot square cube with rounded corners and a wide front window, seating two or three in 278 cubic feet. Electric heat only. Choose it if the sauna has to look deliberate instead of rustic.
View CT Luna Sauna
The Flow Cold Plunge
Ships fully assembled — no build day, no kit. The chiller is built into the cedar housing, so nothing sits beside the tub. The natural partner to any sauna on this page if you want contrast therapy without the clutter.
View The Flow PlungeCanadian Timber Saunas Compared — Capacity, Volume and Heater Size
Every published figure in one place, so you can size the sauna and the heater in the same glance. Interior volume is the number that decides the heater, not the seating count.

Crate weights and seating capacities are as published by LeisureCraft; their drop-ship policy puts crates at 6 to 14 feet and 800 to 1,600 pounds depending on model. Interior volumes are calculated by Recovery Room Direct from the manufacturer’s dimensioned drawings, and heater sizes are our recommendation rather than a manufacturer rating — we confirm both with the factory before your order goes in. Crate weight varies with the options and heater selected. The Element indoor line is listed separately: three sizes, all electric-only and built in Thermo Grandis, not cedar; LeisureCraft publishes an interior volume for the Loft only, at 135 cu ft.
Reading the table
Two rows are worth pausing on. Harmony and Serenity share an interior volume of 222 cubic feet despite Serenity seating an extra person — Serenity is longer on the outside, but that extra length is a covered porch — the sauna room itself is identical, which is exactly why both take the same 7.5 kW heater. If the deciding factor is how many people sit down at once, Serenity is the upgrade — it isn’t listed online yet, so call us and we’ll price one against the Harmony. If it is how fast the room heats, the two behave the same.
The other is Luna against Georgian. Luna seats two or three in 278 cubic feet; Georgian takes up to six in 353. Luna is the more architectural building and it is electric-only; Georgian is the one to pick if the room has to hold a group. Georgian takes wood, adds standing headroom and accepts a changeroom or porch. Overlapping heater brackets, very different buildings.
Crate weight is the number people underestimate. A Georgian crate leaves the factory at 1,776 pounds, and a Georgian with a changeroom is heavier still. That’s not a two-people-and-a-dolly job, and it’s the single most common reason a delivery goes badly. We plan it with you before you order.
Financing available on LeisureCraft Canadian Timber orders
Monthly financing is available for qualified buyers through Shop Pay Installments, with terms from 3 to 24 months and 0% APR options. Checking your options is a soft credit check and does not affect your credit score; a hard credit inquiry may occur if you accept an offer. 0% APR terms are subject to credit approval. See our financing options for full terms, or call (888) 500-5675 and we’ll walk you through it before you commit to a build slot.
What Sets LeisureCraft Apart From Other Outdoor Saunas
Four things that show up in the build, not the brochure.
Solid cedar, not veneer
The walls are milled cedar staves, not a cedar-faced panel over a substrate. A Harmony, Serenity or Tranquility barrel is assembled from 48 individual staves — 46 standard plus a shaped top and bottom — drawn together with aluminum bands. There’s no laminate to delaminate and no core to swell, which is the failure mode that ends cheap outdoor saunas early.
No proprietary heater lock-in
Heaters are sold separately and openly. You can fit a Harvia, a HUUM, a Narvi wood stove or LeisureCraft’s own TimberGlow wood heater, sized to your room volume, not to a bundle. That also means a heater failure in year six is a normal parts swap, not a hunt for something discontinued — and over a long ownership that’s the difference between a repair and a replacement.
Outdoor cedar, or an indoor infrared cabin?
The infrared cabins we carry are built for a spare room — they plug into a normal outlet, they’re light, and they arrive in days. Our Golden Designs traditional outdoor saunas are cedar too, and they ship from stock in days. LeisureCraft is the line to choose when you want it built to order in solid Eastern White Cedar, in a shape and configuration you pick. If the sauna is going in a basement, don’t buy this.
One workshop, one wood
Sauna, plunge tub, hot tub and shower all come out of the same Ontario shop, and the cedar exteriors are specified to match. Buy them together and they weather together instead of aging into three different shades of brown in your yard.
Sauna and Cold Plunge Contrast Therapy — What the Research Shows
Why people put a cold tub next to a sauna, described honestly.
Traditional sauna bathing raises skin and core temperature, widens blood vessels near the surface and produces the heavy sweat and slowed breathing most people describe as the point of the whole exercise. Cold water immersion does close to the opposite: vessels narrow, your breathing goes sharp and shallow for a few seconds, and then your attention snaps back in a way that’s hard to describe until it happens to you. Alternating the two — heat, then cold, then rest — is what practitioners call contrast therapy.
Finland has the longest research record here, and most of it comes from long-running population studies rather than controlled trials. The cold-water literature is younger and thinner still. We’re not going to quote you a percentage, because the honest answer is that the evidence is suggestive rather than settled. What we can tell you is what owners actually report: the habit sticks, and heat followed by cold is far easier to keep doing than either one on its own.
Practically, most owners run a sauna session of ten to twenty minutes at a comfortable temperature, step into cold water for anywhere from thirty seconds to a few minutes, then rest fully before deciding whether to repeat. Sitting on the porch of a Tranquility or the steps of a Georgian between rounds is not a design accident — the rest phase is part of the ritual, not an intermission.
Before you start. Heat and cold immersion place real load on the cardiovascular system. If you’re pregnant, have heart disease, high or low blood pressure, a seizure disorder, diabetes, or are taking medication that affects blood pressure, thermoregulation or alertness, speak to your doctor before using a sauna or cold plunge. Don’t use either after drinking alcohol, don’t use a sauna alone if you’re new to it, and get out at once if you feel dizzy or unwell. Children should never use a sauna or plunge tub unsupervised. These products support recovery and relaxation; they’re not medical devices and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition.
Before You Order a LeisureCraft Sauna: What to Know
Six things worth settling before a build slot is booked. None of them are difficult — they’re just easier to sort out now than on delivery day.
Getting the crate off the truck
This is the big one. LeisureCraft puts crates at 6 to 14 feet long and 800 to 1,600 pounds depending on the model; the largest builds, like a Georgian with a changeroom, run heavier still. Delivery is curbside, and the carrier only lifts a crate off if it fits the liftgate. Over 84 inches it will not — that covers Serenity, Tranquility, Elation and Georgian. Granby crates at 72 inches and normally comes down fine. Harmony and MiniPOD sit right on the limit, so assume no liftgate until we confirm yours. Otherwise: forklift, terminal pickup, or a tilt-tow we arrange. Full detail is on our LeisureCraft shipping policy.
The base underneath
You don’t need a poured slab. A level, well-drained base is enough — concrete pad, wood deck, patio stones or compacted crushed stone all work. Build it slightly larger than the sauna so there’s somewhere dry to stand, with a slight fall to the back for drainage. On a raised deck, check the load with your builder first; a filled cabin sauna is heavier than the crate. Some municipalities treat an outdoor sauna as an accessory structure, so a call to your building department is worth it before you order — especially for a wood-fired model with a chimney.
Choosing the heater
Heaters are sold separately and sized to room volume, not to model name — the table above has the range for each. What it can’t tell you: the heater is a meaningful share of the total, it ships on its own schedule rather than in the sauna crate, stones are usually a separate line, and a wood stove needs clearance to the bench and a chimney kit. Luna and Granby are electric-only. We size it, price it and confirm the lead time with you before the order goes in.
Electrical work
Electric heaters need a dedicated circuit and a licensed electrician — LeisureCraft’s heater documentation states that a GFCI breaker is not required on the heater circuit. Your electrician and your local inspector have the final say, so hand them the manufacturer’s sheet and let them make the call. Improper installation is excluded from the warranty. Wood-fired models need no electrical supply at all, which is why they suit remote cottages.
Assembly time
Every sauna ships as a kit of pre-cut, pre-drilled parts — no cutting, no carpentry. Two people, a mallet, a level, a drill and a ¾-inch wrench will do it. Budget a full day. Not an afternoon. Barrels and cabins are the longer builds, and rushing the band-tightening is how you end up with gaps. The Flow cold plunge arrives fully assembled, and the showers are a short afternoon. Every crate includes the printed manual, and we send you the assembly video before it ships.
Made to order, no returns
Every unit is cut for your order, which is why there is no restocking it and no return window. Transit damage can be claimed and resolved with replacement parts, provided you photograph it and note it on the Bill of Lading before signing, then tell us within 72 hours. A clean signature makes a freight claim very hard to win. Read the return and warranty policy before ordering, and call us with any doubt — we would rather talk it through first.
Six-Thirty in February: Living With an Outdoor Cedar Sauna
It’s dark by five now and the yard is under snow. You walk out in a robe and boots, and the barrel has been coming up to temperature since you put the heater on before dinner. The door handle is cedar, so it doesn’t bite your hand the way steel would at fifteen below.
Inside, the smell hits first — warm white cedar, sharper when you ladle water onto the stones and the room fills. You sit on the upper bench where it is hottest, feet on the lower, and watch the window fog over from the inside. Fifteen minutes in, the day has stopped following you around.
Then out, ten steps across the deck, and into the plunge tub. The first eight seconds are genuinely unpleasant. The next thirty aren’t. When you climb out your skin is bright and the cold air feels mild, almost warm, and you sit on the porch bench in a towel doing nothing at all for five minutes because that turns out to be the best part.
Round two is shorter. By the time you’re back inside, your hair is freezing into odd shapes and you sleep like someone who has been outdoors all day.

Choosing the Right LeisureCraft Outdoor Cedar Sauna for Your Yard
Three questions that usually settle it in about a minute.
How many people, honestly?
Not how many could squeeze in — how many will use it on a normal evening. For one or two people most nights, Granby or the MiniPOD is enough and heats fastest. For a family of four, Harmony, Luna or Elation all work, with Luna the most comfortable to sit upright in. If you regularly have five or six people, go to Serenity, Tranquility or Georgian and accept the longer heat-up time as the trade.
Barrel, cabin or cube?
A barrel heats quickest because the curved ceiling puts the hot air right above the bench, and it is the cheapest way to get a real outdoor sauna. A cabin gives you full standing height, a proper door and the option of a changeroom or porch — better if you will use it year-round in cold weather and want somewhere to undress that is not the lawn. Luna and Elation sit between the two: cube-shaped, wide windows, more architectural than rustic.
Electric or wood-fired?
Electric is the practical default. It heats on a timer, needs no tending and no chimney, and every model here supports it. Wood-fired takes longer, needs a chimney and a woodpile, and is unbeatable at a cottage with no reliable power — the Starlight hot tub runs entirely off-grid. Two things to know: Luna and Granby are electric-only, and the Element indoor line is electric-only by design. If in doubt, call and we will match a heater to your room volume.
Not Sure Which LeisureCraft Sauna Fits Your Yard?
Tell us the space you have, how many people will use it, and whether you have power at the spot. We’ll tell you which model fits, which heater it needs, and exactly how the crate is going to come off the truck at your address — before you order, not after.

LeisureCraft Canadian Timber — Questions Answered
Who makes LeisureCraft saunas and where are they built?
LeisureCraft — still incorporated as Dundalk LeisureCraft Inc., and widely listed under that name — is a family-owned manufacturer in Melancthon, Ontario, and has been building there since 2004. It started in cedar outdoor furniture and the Canadian Timber Collection is its Eastern White Cedar outdoor line. Their own catalogue puts it as blending Finnish sauna culture with Canadian craftsmanship, and everything is handcrafted in Canada from Canadian wood milled locally. Everything in the Canadian Timber Collection is cut, assembled and crated at that workshop rather than imported and rebadged. Recovery Room Direct is a factory-authorized dealer, so your unit is built to order against your purchase, and we send you the manufacturer’s warranty registration link with your order confirmation.
Why Eastern White Cedar, and how does it hold up outdoors?
Eastern White Cedar is the wood the whole Canadian Timber Collection is built from, and it is the reason these saunas can live outside. It is naturally rot- and insect-resistant without chemical treatment, it is dimensionally stable through freeze-thaw cycles, and it has a low thermal conductivity — which is why a bench at 180°F is comfortable to sit on where a hardwood bench would not be. It also stays pale and mild-scented instead of sharply aromatic, which most people prefer for long sessions. Left alone it silvers over a few seasons; an exterior wood stain keeps the honey color if you would rather it did not. Either way the rot resistance is in the wood, not in a coating, so a stain is a cosmetic choice and not a maintenance requirement.
What does the LeisureCraft warranty cover?
Under LeisureCraft’s current published warranty policy, products they manufacture carry a five-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal residential use, running from the day you receive the unit. Some older product pages and in-box manuals still show a three-year term, so we confirm the applicable coverage in writing with every order. Valid claims are settled with replacement parts at no charge. It’s a parts-only warranty — service, labor and installation are excluded, and a replaced part does not restart the five years. It doesn’t cover normal wear and tear, improper installation, insufficient maintenance or weather damage. Sauna heaters sit on LeisureCraft’s separate component schedule, which LeisureCraft honors directly. Electric heaters including Harvia and HUUM carry three years, excluding elements and rocks — HUUM also excludes sensors. Narvi wood stoves carry two years. We confirm the exact term for your configuration in writing with your order. LeisureCraft’s own TimberGlow stove runs five years, excluding the glass door, ash grate and rocks. If the sauna is going into a commercial setting, call us before ordering so we can confirm coverage in writing.
How does delivery work, and what do I need to have ready?
Freight and all cross-border charges are included in the price, and delivery is curbside to the contiguous 48 states. The important part is unloading: LeisureCraft puts crates at 6 to 14 feet and 800 to 1,600 pounds depending on the model, with the largest builds heavier still, and the carrier will not take the crate off the truck. Crates 84 inches or shorter may come down on a liftgate; anything longer will not, which covers the Serenity, Tranquility, Elation and Georgian. Granby crates shorter and normally comes down fine; Harmony and the MiniPOD sit right on the limit, so we confirm yours with the factory. Have a forklift with extensions, a trailer to collect from the terminal, or ask us to arrange a tilt-tow truck. Because each unit is built to order, product pages show an estimated build date rather than a ship date. Call us before ordering and we will plan the unloading with you.
Can I cancel or return a Canadian Timber sauna?
Once your build slot is booked, no. Your unit is cut for your order and there’s nothing to restock it into — we can’t take it back and neither can the factory. Before the build starts it’s a different conversation, so call (888) 500-5675 as early as you can and we’ll tell you honestly where your order sits. Transit damage is separate and fully covered, provided you photograph it and note it on the Bill of Lading before you sign. If you’re unsure about anything at all, ask us before you order rather than after — we’d far rather spend twenty minutes on the phone than have you stuck with the wrong sauna.
Is a sauna or cold plunge safe for everyone?
No, and it’s worth being clear about that. Heat and cold immersion both load the cardiovascular system. If you’re pregnant, have heart disease, high or low blood pressure, a seizure disorder or diabetes, have a pacemaker or another implanted cardiac or electronic device, are recovering from surgery, have Raynaud’s syndrome, or take medication affecting blood pressure, thermoregulation or alertness, speak to your doctor first. This is not an exhaustive list — if you have any health condition, ask your doctor before you start. Never use either after drinking alcohol, don’t sauna alone when you are new to it, and get out immediately if you feel dizzy or unwell. Children shouldn’t use a sauna or plunge tub unsupervised.
Is Recovery Room Direct an authorized LeisureCraft dealer?
Yes. We are a factory-authorized dealer for the LeisureCraft Canadian Timber Collection, which means we buy directly from the manufacturer in Melancthon, your build is placed against your order, and your five-year warranty runs from the day you receive it. It also means that when something needs sorting out, we deal with the factory on your behalf — you don’t get pointed at a support line.
Ready to Add a Cedar Sauna to Your Yard or Your Facility?
Every unit is cut to order in Melancthon and carries the five-year limited warranty from the day it arrives. Freight and cross-border charges are already in the price. Building a commercial space? We handle multi-unit orders.
