Every other barrel in the Canadian Timber range puts you on a strip of cedar slats laid across the bottom of the curve. The Elation is a barrel overhead and a room underfoot: a solid flat wood floor on its own frame, two 23 inch benches facing each other, and a front wall set back so the floor runs forward and carries two small outside benches either side of the door.

It is also the widest outdoor barrel sauna in the collection, 91.5 inches across inside against 83 for the Harmony, Serenity and Tranquility, and the only one whose weather skin is built in: ice-and-water shield over the staves, cedar bevel siding over that, no roof kit to add. Where the Elation earns its place as a 4 person outdoor barrel sauna, and what it is not

The Elation is a traditional sauna: a stove, stones and a room you heat, a different experience from an infrared cabin. Still deciding between the two? Start with our infrared versus traditional sauna comparison.

A barrel is efficient because the curve puts the hot air where your head is and wastes nothing above it, which is why barrel saunas have outsold every other outdoor shape for decades. The cost is underfoot: a strip of cedar slats laid across the low point between the benches, with the staves curving up either side. Most people live with it. Some never stop noticing it.

The Elation keeps the top half of the argument and drops the bottom half. The staves still curve over your head, so the heat still gathers where you sit, but the room stands on a square framed floor of tongue and groove cedar. And because the barrel is wider, 91.5 inches inside against 83, there is more wall beside each bench before the curve closes in.

What it is not: it is not the biggest room in the range, and it has no covered porch. For six people, the CT Tranquility is the right one; for a porch to cool down under, the CT Serenity has one. The Elation has two small outside benches instead.

The floor comes first in the assembly manual, and it is what makes this barrel different. You screw together a square frame of cedar boards, nail tongue and groove floor boards into it, and the barrel stands on that: back wall, front wall, and the staves screwed to both through pre-drilled holes. No cradle under a curve. What you stand on inside is a floor, wall to wall.

The frame is longer than the room. The front wall sits back inside the barrel, so the floor runs forward under the lip of the barrel, and that strip carries two small cedar benches, each 18 13/16 by 18 inches, one either side of the door. LeisureCraft's drawing labels them outside benches: somewhere to sit between rounds. The Serenity and Tranquility have a porch. This is two seats.

Beside each seat is a window. Most barrels give you glass in the door and one window elsewhere; the Elation puts a window on each side of the door, so from inside you look out at whatever the sauna faces.

Eastern White Cedar, and what you are paying for in a Canadian Timber sauna

The Elation is built from Eastern White Cedar, the wood that gives the Canadian Timber collection its name and its price. It is lighter in color than Western Red Cedar, tighter in the grain, and milder in scent, with the same natural resistance to moisture, rot and insects.

Solid single-stave cedar

Each stave runs the full length of the barrel with no tenon joints along it. LeisureCraft specifies Grade-A solid cedar and runs no tenon joints along the length, which is where a cheaper sauna saves money and later opens up.

Bevel siding over an ice-and-water shield

Once the staves are up, the manual has you sheet the sides and top in ice-and-water shield, then nail cedar bevel siding over it. LeisureCraft's words for what that adds: an extra layer of R-value and water protection. It is why the Elation has no roof kit and the bare-stave barrels do.

23 inch benches, 5 mm glass

The inside benches are 23 inches wide, which LeisureCraft calls out as wider than its standard, against 20 on the other barrels. Door and windows are 5 mm bronze tempered single pane: tempered for safety at heat, bronze to cut glare, not a sealed unit.

Sourced from certified sustainable mills in British Columbia and Ontario, and covered by LeisureCraft's 5 year residential limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship: parts only, with service, labor and installation excluded.

Heating the CT Elation: 7.5 kW electric, or a 14 to 16 kW wood stove

LeisureCraft's configurator recommends a 7.5 kW electric heater for this model, or a wood stove in the 14 to 16 kW class, both taken from the heater manufacturers' specifications. It is a wide outdoor barrel: do not size down.

Choose the heater at the top of this page and it is added to your order as its own line. Three electric heaters are offered:

On the wood side, three stoves are offered: the Narvi Kuru in two sizes, LeisureCraft's own TimberGlow14, and the Narvi Kaamos 20. A wood build needs a chimney, and on the Elation LeisureCraft routes it out the side or back wall, with or without an elbow; there is no through-the-top option on this model, because the top is sheeted and sided. The stove stands on a floor plate, flat or adjustable, chosen with it. You can also select Without a heater if you already own one.

Why we still ask you to call

The heater, its control, and for a wood build the stove, its chimney routing and the floor plate are all priced at the top of this page, so nothing waits on a quote. The call is where we check what you have chosen against your site: climate, how exposed the Elation will be, the breaker, and where a flue can exit under local code. LeisureCraft accepts no returns, so five minutes on (888) 500-5675 before you choose is the cheapest insurance on the page.

All electrical connections must be made by a licensed electrician, and LeisureCraft's warranty is void if they are not. A heater in this class runs on its own dedicated 240 V circuit, sized to the heater you choose. Plan the electrical, or the chimney exit, before the crate arrives.

What a week with the Elation actually looks like

The sessions, and the seat outside

An outdoor barrel takes a while to come up from cold, longer in January than in June, which is why owners settle into a rhythm rather than using it on impulse. With a wood stove the rhythm includes lighting and feeding it; with a Wi-Fi heater, starting it from the kitchen. Either way the outside benches change the middle of the session: between rounds you step out and sit down right there.

Sauna and cold water

A good number of barrel owners pair the sauna with a plunge, alternating heat and cold in the same session. If that is where you are heading, our contrast therapy protocol sets out the timings people actually use, and our cold plunges are sized to sit beside a sauna.

Winter

The siding is the part you will not think about and should: it is there for R-value and water protection, and winter is when both are working. The single pane glass is the part to go in knowing about: in a hard winter expect the door and windows to behave the way single glazing behaves. And clear the outside benches of snow before you sit; they are under the lip of the barrel, not a roof.

Three people who choose the Elation over the other barrels

The one who has stood in a barrel and hated the floor

You have been in a conventional barrel and spent the session aware of the walls curving up either side of your feet. The Elation's floor is tongue and groove cedar on a square frame, wall to wall. If that is what has kept you from a barrel, this is the barrel.

The one who wants a seat outside but not a porch

The Serenity spends about 15 inches of its length on a covered porch and keeps the Harmony's room. The Elation, at nearly the same depth, spends its size on the room and gives you two 18 by 18 inch outside benches. If you sit outside for two minutes rather than twenty, that is the better trade.

The one who does not want to buy a roof

Buy a Harmony, Serenity or Tranquility and you will be deciding whether to add a roof kit, shingle or metal, and most buyers do. The Elation's weather skin is built into the sauna. If you would rather not have that decision at all, this is the one without it.

LeisureCraft publishes cubic feet for the other three barrels and not for the Elation, and we will not invent one. Read the width, height and bench rows instead.

The comparison that matters is with the Serenity, because the two are almost the same length outside: 96 inches against 94.5. The Serenity spends its length on a covered porch in front of a Harmony-sized room; the Elation spends its size on the room, 8.5 inches wider inside, and gives you two outside seats rather than a porch. Want cover outside, buy the Serenity. Want the wider room, the flat floor and the wider benches, this is the one. For six people, neither is enough and the CT Tranquility is the one to buy.

What the CT Elation barrel sauna costs to use, once it is in the yard

We are not going to invent a cost per session, because we do not know what you paid or how often you will use it. What we can give you is the denominator; five years is the length of the residential warranty.

Building the CT Elation

LeisureCraft publishes the assembly manual for this model, and it is worth reading before you order rather than after. It runs from the floor frame up: frame, floor boards, back wall, front wall, staves, door, ice-and-water shield, siding, benches, then two vents you drill yourself. Two people. Tools: a mallet, a #3 Robertson bit, a cordless driver, a staple gun, a nail gun or finish nails, a utility knife, and a 2 inch hole saw for the vents. Nothing structural is cut on site.

CT Elation sauna delivery, and what to have ready

Freight included

Freight and all cross-border charges are already in the price, curbside to the contiguous 48 states. The crate is 96 by 45 by 44 inches and about 1,497 lb. At 96 inches it is past the 84 inch limit LeisureCraft sets for a liftgate, so plan on equipment or several people to take it off the truck, arranged before the delivery call.

Built to order

Nothing is stocked. Your Elation joins the production queue in Melancthon once your order is placed, and we confirm the build and ship window in writing as soon as the factory schedules it. If that date does not work, say so straight away: the first days, before anything is cut, are when a change costs nothing.

What it sits on

The Elation stands on a square framed floor rather than two cradles, so the base has to be flat across the whole 98 by 96 inch footprint and stay flat. LeisureCraft's manual asks for a level base with a slight slope to the back for drainage: a concrete pad, a wood deck, crushed stone, or pavers. Ground that settles racks the frame, and improper installation is excluded from the warranty. Call us before you dig or pour.

Inspect before you sign

Photograph any damage and write it on the Bill of Lading before you sign, then call us within 72 hours. A clean signature makes a freight claim very hard to win. The crate is set down at the curb, not carried inside.

Before the truck comes

Your electrician booked and the heater decided, or the stove and chimney exit decided
Equipment or several people on delivery day, and somewhere dry to stage the parts

A few situations do add cost, such as a tilt-tow truck, an address change after the crate ships, or terminal storage if a delivery appointment stalls. All are avoidable and all are listed on our LeisureCraft shipping policy. Because each sauna is cut for your order, LeisureCraft accepts no returns or exchanges at any point; read our return policy before ordering.

Care once it is up

The cedar will move as it takes on and gives off moisture. Keep the two vents clear, ventilate and wipe down after each session, and rinse the benches with cold water. Wash floor and benches with warm soapy water a few times a year; never use ammonia or harsh cleaners, which gray the wood. Minor water seepage is normal outdoors, per LeisureCraft, and evaporates once the heater is on. The exterior can be stained; the interior is left bare.

Before you start. Heat loads the cardiovascular system. If you are pregnant, have heart disease, high or low blood pressure, a seizure disorder or diabetes, have a pacemaker or another implanted cardiac or electronic device, are recovering from surgery, have Raynaud’s syndrome, or take medication affecting blood pressure, thermoregulation or alertness, speak to your doctor first. This is not an exhaustive list: if you have any health condition, ask your doctor before you start. Never use a sauna after drinking alcohol, and children should not use one unsupervised.

The questions buyers actually ask about the Elation

Is the floor really flat, and what is it made of?

Yes. The Elation stands on a square cedar frame with tongue and groove floor boards nailed into it, and the barrel walls are built up from that frame. The other three barrels have a strip of slats across the bottom of the curve, and rest on cradles.

Does the Elation need a roof kit?

No, and none is offered. The bare-stave barrels each have a roof kit because their top staves face the weather. On the Elation the staves are sheeted in ice-and-water shield and clad in cedar bevel siding, top included, which is why LeisureCraft's configurator for this model has no roof step.

How big is it inside compared with the Harmony, Serenity and Tranquility?

Wider and taller, by LeisureCraft's own drawing: 91.5 inches across inside and 81.5 at the centerline, against 83 and 79 for the other three. LeisureCraft publishes no interior volume for it, so we cannot honestly say whether it is bigger than the Harmony's 222 cubic feet. It seats four; the Tranquility six.

What are the outside benches, and are they a porch?

Two small cedar seats, 18 13/16 by 18 inches, one either side of the door on the floor that runs forward of the front wall. They are open to the sky, under the barrel's own overhang. The CT Serenity and CT Tranquility have covered porches.

What size heater or stove should I order, and can I buy it without one?

LeisureCraft's configurator recommends 7.5 kW electric, or a wood stove in the 14 to 16 kW class. Choose the heater or stove at the top of this page; if you are unsure which size, or whether wood suits your township's rules on outdoor burning, call us first and we will size it with you. You can also choose Without a heater; we confirm on the order call that you have one.

What does the warranty actually cover?

LeisureCraft's 5 year residential limited warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship and provides replacement parts. Service, labor and installation are excluded by the manufacturer, and the warranty does not cover normal wear, improper installation, insufficient maintenance or weather damage. Is it hard to assemble?

It is a kit, and LeisureCraft's manual lists the tools: a mallet, a #3 Robertson bit, a cordless driver, a staple gun, a nail gun or finish nails, a utility knife, and a 2 inch hole saw for the two vents. Two people. There is more to it than a bare barrel because of the siding, so allow more time than a bare barrel. If you would rather not, ask us about assembly when you order.

Can I pay for this over time?

Yes. Shop Pay Installments is available at checkout, and APPROVE offers financing on larger orders including business and commercial buyers. Terms, length and whether interest applies all depend on the amount financed and on approval, so the exact offer is the one presented to you rather than anything we can quote here. Call us if you would rather talk it through first.

What happens if I change my mind after ordering?

Every Elation is built to your order, so LeisureCraft does not accept returns or exchanges at any point. That is their policy rather than a restocking arrangement, and we would rather you knew before you ordered than after. If your build has not started we will do everything we can to cancel at no cost, which is why calling the moment anything changes is the most useful thing you can do. Our LeisureCraft return policy sets out where you stand.

How long from order to delivery?

Every Elation is built to order, so the honest answer is that it depends on the production queue rather than on us, and that queue moves. We quote your build and ship window on the phone rather than publish a number that ages, and confirm it in writing once the factory schedules it. If the timing does not work, the first days after an order are the window where a change costs nothing.

Is a traditional sauna safe for me?

For most healthy adults, used sensibly, yes, but heat genuinely loads the cardiovascular system, so this is a question for your doctor rather than for us. Speak to them first if you are pregnant, have heart disease, high or low blood pressure, a seizure disorder or diabetes, have a pacemaker or another implanted cardiac or electronic device, are recovering from surgery, have Raynaud’s syndrome, or take medication affecting blood pressure, thermoregulation or alertness. Is the five year warranty valid in a gym, spa or rental?

The five year term is LeisureCraft's residential warranty. If the sauna is going into a gym, spa, short-term rental or any commercial setting, call us before you order, because commercial coverage is not the same thing and we will confirm the terms in writing rather than let you find out at claim time. Financing through APPROVE is available to business buyers either way.

Is Recovery Room Direct an authorized LeisureCraft dealer?

Yes. We buy directly from the manufacturer in Melancthon, Ontario, your Elation is built against your order, and we send the manufacturer's warranty registration with your order confirmation. When something needs sorting out, we deal with the factory on your behalf. Everything we carry from them is in the Dundalk LeisureCraft collection.
