Saunum Sauna Heaters: An Air Mixing Fan That Brings Ceiling Heat Back Down to the Bench

Each Saunum heater pairs a stone heater with a built in fan. The Air family stands on a telescopic flue that reaches your ceiling, the Air L carries more stone for a larger room, and the Air Perfect is a shorter body with side flues. The AirSolo brings the same kind of fan to a sauna that already has a heater.

Heaters travel by freight to the curb in the contiguous 48 at no charge, and each product page shows the delivery estimate in business days.

A weeknight, and the weekly schedule you set on the AirIQ has had the room warming for the past hour. You left the fan off for the heat up, the way Saunum's manual asks. Just before you go in, you tap it on at the panel outside the door. Inside, a ladle of hot water goes onto the stones, and the fan pulls the air gathered up by the ceiling back down and out beneath the bench.

The Saunum Sauna Heater Lineup: Air, Air L, Air Perfect and AirSolo

Every Saunum product is in the grid at the top of this page. This is how it splits: choose the family by your room and ceiling, then the size by room volume.

Floor standing

Saunum Air

106 to 318 cu ft, 73 in ceiling

A stone heater on a telescopic flue that meets your ceiling, sized as the Air 5 and the Air 7. Choose a closed black steel or an open stainless steel basket at the same price. It runs from the separate AirIQ control.

Saunum Air 7 sauna heater
Larger rooms

Saunum Air L

283 to 812 cu ft, 73 in ceiling

The same telescopic flue over a deeper basket that holds about 180 to 190 pounds of stone, closed or open, sized as the Air L 10, Air L 13 and Air L 15. The separate AirIQ control runs all three sizes directly.

Saunum Air L 10 sauna heater
Side flues

Saunum Air Perfect

210 to 565 cu ft, 77 in ceiling

A 45.7 inch body with side flues, sized as the Air Perfect 7 and Air Perfect 10, that can sit partly recessed into a floor or a bench. The AirIQ control is required here too; if your heater arrives with its own AirIQ panel, we refund the control.

Saunum Air Perfect 7 sauna heater
No heater inside

Saunum AirSolo

120 V, beside your heater

A fan unit with no heating element, for a sauna that already has a heater. The AirSolo 70 and 80 hang on the wall at two heights. The AirSolo Wall sits in the wall cavity behind the lining, with its switch outside the sauna. Saunum says to keep it off while the room heats.

The control

Saunum AirIQ Wi-Fi

Required on Air, Air L and Air Perfect

Temperature, fan speed, three presets and a weekly schedule, from the panel outside the sauna or the Saunum app. It is a row in every Air, Air L and Air Perfect buy box, and an optional AirIQ button switches the fan on and off from inside the room.

Saunum AirIQ Wi-Fi control
Accessories

Rails, Airflow, Water and Salt

Sold separately

Each family takes its own safety rail, which Saunum strongly recommends. An air deflector turns outlet air away from a bather's feet. The AutoLeil pours water on the stones for you and needs its pre-bent pipe. Salt spheres, salt trays and an aroma oil set are optional.

Each one is in the product grid above.

How a Saunum Air Mixing Sauna Heater Works

Four things you can check in Saunum's US manuals before you buy.

01

A fan inside the heater

Air, Air L and Air Perfect

Saunum's air mixing system draws hot air from near the ceiling, mixes it with cooler air from near the floor, and sends it back out at bench level. On the Air and Air L the intake cap sits against the ceiling on a telescopic flue. On the Air Perfect the air is drawn in at the top of the two side flues and sent out through the opening at the bottom.

The air outlet has to sit below the lower edge of your bench.

02

Three fan speeds and a cool air valve

Set from the AirIQ panel

Saunum's manual says to keep the fan off while the room heats and switch it on just before you step in, at one of three speeds. The AirIQ can also start it on its own to stop the room overheating. A valve on the left side, set about a third open from the factory, lets in cooler air: open it to cool the steam, close it to warm it. If the lower part of the room passes 176°F, the fan stops until it cools.

Steam and air speed are yours to adjust, round by round.

03

One design from 106 to 812 cubic feet

Air 5 to Air L 15

The Air 5 starts at 106 cubic feet and the Air L 15 reaches 812. Every heater between them moves its heat the same way, with the fan and flue described here, run from the same AirIQ panel. A small home room and a large one get the same mechanism; the choice comes down to volume, ceiling height and the shape of the body.

Start from the room volume. The sizing table below matches it to a heater.

04

One control for the whole system

AirIQ Wi-Fi

The AirIQ panel sets the temperature and the fan speed, keeps three sauna presets you can edit, runs a weekly schedule and links to the Saunum app over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Remote starts are subject to the control's safety checks, and heating will not start with the sauna door open. The AirIQ box has no door sensor, so we confirm before shipping whether your setup needs one.

The panel mounts outside the hot room, away from splashes.

What Size Saunum Sauna Heater Do I Need?

Saunum sizes by room volume. Multiply length by width by height in feet. For log, plank or stave walls without internal insulation, multiply that volume by 1.5. Then add 3 cubic feet for every square foot of glass, tile, brick, concrete or stone. When the total falls between two sizes, or inside two of the ranges below, choose the larger heater.

Saunum heater Room volume Minimum ceiling
Air 5 106 to 212 cu ft 73 in
Air 7 177 to 318 cu ft 73 in
Air Perfect 7 210 to 350 cu ft 77 in
Air L 10 283 to 494 cu ft 73 in
Air Perfect 10 318 to 565 cu ft 77 in
Air L 13 424 to 565 cu ft 73 in
Air L 15 530 to 812 cu ft 73 in

Saunum's own example is a room 7 by 6 by 8.4 feet, which is 353 cubic feet. A 24 square foot glass door adds 72 more, for 425 cubic feet, and Saunum's answer is a heater rated for at least that. The Air L 10, Air L 13 and Air Perfect 10 ranges all cover 425. It sits inside both Air L ranges, so the larger-size rule points to the Air L 13; in the Air Perfect family it is the Air Perfect 10. Go no bigger than the rule gives. Saunum warns that too much power heats the room fast while the stones stay too cool for good steam.

The ranges assume an insulated room, which Saunum expects before the heater goes in. In a room like that the heat up takes 45 to 90 minutes. Saunum publishes no room size for the AirSolo, so tell us the room and the heater it will sit beside. For the wiring and code side of any heater, read our sauna heater buyer's guide.

Before You Order a Saunum Sauna Heater: What to Check

These are the questions we ask before a Saunum order ships, answered here so your electrician and builder can check them now.

Electrician

Hardwired to 240 V single phase

20.63 A on the Air 5, up to 62.5 A on the Air L 15

A certified electrician connects the heater to NEC and local code, through the AirIQ control unit, and sizes the circuit. Saunum says never to run a heater through a GFCI breaker.

The warranty needs a qualified electrician's connection.

Control

AirIQ on every Saunum heater

Panel outside the sauna room

Saunum designs these heaters to run with its AirIQ control and no other. Add it in the buy box, or choose one of our Saunum heater packages, which already hold it; for the Air Perfect, Saunum's US distributor lists it as required. If your heater arrives with its own AirIQ panel, we refund the control.

Plan a dry wall outside the room for the panel.

Power unit

Runs every Air and Air L

Rated up to 15.2 kW

Saunum's current US AirIQ manual (August 2026, as in 2025) rates the power unit for heaters up to 15.2 kW, so it runs the Air L 13 and Air L 15 directly. An earlier 2023 edition capped it at 12 kW and called for a contactor box above that.

We confirm which edition ships with your order, and your electrician follows the manual in the box.

Ceiling and bench

73 in for Air and Air L, 77 in for Air Perfect

Outlet below the bench

The Air and Air L flue telescopes from 73 to 95 inches so the cap meets the ceiling. The Air Perfect installs at a height of 7 to 31.5 inches, measured from its base to the floor or bench surface. On all three the air outlet sits below the lower edge of the bench.

Measure the ceiling and the bench before you choose.

Clearances and guard

20 in clear in front of the fan

Safety rail recommended

Keep 20 inches clear in front of the air outlet, and children at least 40 inches away while the fan runs. Saunum strongly recommends its safety rail around the heater; it is sold separately as a buy box row.

Clearances by basket are in the comparison table above.

Ventilation

Still required

Six air changes an hour

The fan does not replace ventilation. Saunum places the fresh air intake within 12 inches of the floor near the heater, the exhaust 24 to 47 inches up and as far from the heater as the room allows.

Show your builder the vent layout in the manual.

Not in the heater box. Stones, the power supply cable, the safety rail and the bottom air deflector, and the AirIQ control. Order the stones and the control with the heater so all of it is on site for the electrician's visit. They come by parcel and can arrive on a different day from the heater.

Saunum Warranty, Delivery and Returns

Taken from the warranty sections of Saunum's current US manuals and our own delivery and return terms.

Product Private or home use Commercial or public use

Air 5 and Air 7 are cULus Listed to UL 875 and CSA C22.2 No. 164 (file E525245).

Heaters ship palletized by freight to the curb, with no charge to the contiguous 48. The carrier books a window, someone has to be there to sign, and you inspect the pallet before signing. The AirSolo, AirIQ, stones, rails and other accessories come by parcel, sometimes on a different day. If the distributor is out of stock on your model, we tell you the new date before anything ships. The details sit on our Saunum shipping policy page.

Returns run 30 days from purchase on a new, uninstalled product in its original packaging. There is no percentage restocking fee. A repackaging fee of 20 to 50 dollars applies, depending on the item. You pay the return freight on a change of mind. A heater that has been wired in or fired cannot go back. See our Saunum return policy.

Saunum Sauna Heaters, Questions Answered

Does a Saunum heater need the AirIQ control?

Yes. Saunum designs the Air, Air L and Air Perfect to run with its AirIQ control and no other. It is a separate purchase, added as a row in the buy box or already inside a Saunum heater package, and Saunum's US distributor lists it as required for the Air Perfect too. If your heater arrives with its own AirIQ panel, we refund the control. The panel mounts outside the sauna room, and the Saunum app connects to it over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

What size Saunum heater do I need?

Work out the room volume in cubic feet. Multiply by 1.5 for uninsulated log, plank or stave walls, add 3 cubic feet for every square foot of glass, tile, brick, concrete or stone, and pick the size whose range covers the total. Between two sizes, or inside two ranges, take the larger. The Air 5 starts at 106 cubic feet and the Air L 15 reaches 812. Check the ceiling too: 73 inches minimum for Air and Air L, 77 for Air Perfect.

What does my electrician need to know about a Saunum heater?

It is hardwired to 240 V single phase through the AirIQ control unit, never through a GFCI breaker. The rated current runs from 20.63 A on the Air 5 to 62.5 A on the Air L 15, and the electrician sizes the circuit to the manual, the NEC and local code. The AirIQ power unit runs every Air and Air L heater directly, the Air L 13 and Air L 15 included.

Do I still need sauna ventilation with a Saunum heater?

Yes. The fan moves air around the room; it does not exchange it. Saunum's manuals call for a fresh air intake no higher than 12 inches from the floor, under or beside the heater. The exhaust goes 24 to 47 inches above the floor, as far from the heater as the room allows. The air in the room should change at least six times an hour.

Can I add a Saunum AirSolo to the sauna heater I already have?

That is what it is for. The AirSolo has no heating element: it is a 120 V fan unit that works alongside your existing heater. It is hardwired on a GFCI protected circuit. Saunum says to keep it switched off while the sauna heats and between rounds, then turn it on just before you go in. The 70 and 80 have a switch on the unit; the Wall version is switched from outside the sauna.

What warranty comes with a Saunum heater?

The Air, Air L and Air Perfect carry 2 years in a private sauna. Labor and the heating elements are excluded, and the manual that ships with the heater gives no commercial term, so ask us before buying for a gym, spa or rental. Every claim needs a completed installation report and a connection by a qualified electrician. The AirSolo and AirIQ carry 2 years at home and 1 year in a commercial or public sauna.

How does a Saunum order arrive, and can I return it?

Heaters come palletized by freight to the curb, with no charge to the contiguous 48; someone has to be there to sign, and you inspect it before signing. The AirSolo, AirIQ, stones and rails come by parcel. Returns run 30 days from purchase on a new, uninstalled product, less a repackaging fee, with the return freight paid by you. A heater that has been wired in or fired is not returnable.

Why does a Saunum heater cost more than a standard stone heater?

Because each one is two devices in one body: a stone heater and Saunum's climate fan. The fan draws hot air from near the ceiling through the flue and sends it back out under the bench, at one of three speeds, and a cool air valve lets you adjust the steam. The whole system runs from the AirIQ panel, a separate purchase on the Air, Air L and Air Perfect alike. To compare one with a standard heater for your room, call (888) 500-5675.

Ready to Choose Your Saunum Heater?

Send us the room's length, width and height, its wall material and any glass or tile. We will work out the volume and name the sizes that fit. When you know your heater, order it from its page: the stones and the AirIQ are rows in the buy box.
