The brand
Narvi has built sauna heat in Finland since 1937
Narvi Oy makes wood-burning sauna stoves in Lappi, in the Rauma region of western Finland. It is an independent Finnish company, not part of any larger sauna group, and it says it is the only large sauna heater manufacturer with production and research entirely in Finland.
Founded
1937
Eighty-odd years of one product. In 2010 Aitolampo, which owned the Kota and Aito brands, merged into Narvi, which is why several stoves here still carry Kota part numbers and Kota declarations.
Built in
Finland
Narvi: “the only big scale sauna heater manufacturer with production and R and D 100% in Finland.” Around sixty people and one product category.
The range
11 stoves
From the 13 kW Kuru, the smallest Narvi makes, to the 24 kW Narvi 30 that weighs 331 lbs and takes 500 mm logs. Wood only: no element, no control, no circuit.
The eleven stoves
Every Narvi stove we carry, side by side
Narvi publishes a room volume for every stove and a declared efficiency for all but one. The table is output, the room it is rated for, the stone it holds and what it weighs before a single stone goes in.
| Stove | Output | Room | Stone | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kuru 14 | 13 kW | 283 to 494 cu ft | 77 lbs | 108 lbs |
| Kuru 20 | 16 kW | 353 to 706 cu ft | 88 lbs | 121 lbs |
| Kaamos 20 | 21 kW | 353 to 706 cu ft | 132 lbs | 143 lbs |
| NC 16 | 16 kW | 283 to 565 cu ft | 110 lbs | 159 lbs |
| NC 20 | 16 kW | 353 to 706 cu ft | 132 lbs | 168 lbs |
| NC 24 | 17 kW | 353 to 848 cu ft | 176 lbs | 181 lbs |
| Luosto | 16 kW | 283 to 706 cu ft | 77 lbs | 104 lbs |
| Luosto VS | 16 kW | 283 to 706 cu ft | 77 lbs | 119 lbs |
| Inari | 16 kW | 283 to 636 cu ft | 132 lbs | 119 lbs |
| Inari Plus | 16 kW | 283 to 636 cu ft | 198 lbs | 135 lbs |
| Narvi 30 | 24 kW | 706 to 1,059 cu ft | 143 lbs | 331 lbs |
The families differ in shape rather than in kind. Kuru is the compact rectangle. Kaamos and NC are the larger boxes, the NC built around a fire chamber Narvi designed for clean burning. Luosto is a round cylinder and Inari is the same idea with the stones on show behind a steel cage. Narvi 30 is the heavy one.
Which one
Three questions that pick the stove for you
1. How big is the hot room?
This is the whole decision and it is the one people get wrong in the same direction. A wood fire has no thermostat, so an oversized stove runs hot and the stones never get the long soak that makes the steam soft. Measure the inside of the room and count an uninsulated glass or stone face for roughly one and a half to two times its area.
2. Do you want to see the fire, or the stones?
Every Narvi has a glass door. The Inari and Inari Plus go further and hold their stones in an open cage, so heat radiates off the stone face as well as the steel. It is the one visible difference in the range that changes how the room feels rather than how it performs.
3. Do you want hot water from the fire?
Two ways. The Luosto VS has a 30 litre stainless tank welded to the body with a faucet you can fit either side. Or the separate chimney watertank clamps around the flue above any stove that connects from the top and heats on waste flue heat alone.
The flue question
119 mm, and why it decides your chimney
Every Narvi stove here uses a 119 mm connective flue, which is 4.7 inches.
US stove pipe is 6 inch or 8 inch. 119 mm is neither, so a Narvi installation cannot be finished with parts from a hardware store, and this is the single thing most likely to catch a US buyer out. Narvi builds its own chimney system and we stock it, along with an adaptor that takes the 119 mm collar out to a 6 inch chimney.
Whatever the chimney is made of, Narvi requires temperature class T600, a minimum modular flue diameter of 120 mm and a draught of at least 12 Pa. An uninsulated flue stays 1,000 mm from anything combustible, which is 39 inches. Where the stove itself stands against masonry or another non-combustible wall, a 50 mm air gap is enough.
We would rather say this on the brand page than let you find it at the end of an install. If you tell us the chimney you have or the one you are planning, we will tell you what it needs before you order the stove.
Stones
Required on every stove, supplied with none
No Narvi stove ships with stones, and every one of them needs between 77 and 198 lbs.
Narvi specifies 10 to 15 cm olivine diabase or vulcanite, which is 4 to 6 inches. That is a larger, coarser stone than an electric heater takes, and the difference is not cosmetic: a wood firebox runs hotter and a small stone cracks in it. Each product page gives the exact weight and the number of boxes for that stove, so the order is right the first time.
Stack them loosely so air moves through the pile, largest at the bottom. Narvi treats stones as a consumable, so they sit outside the warranty and get re-stacked every season or two as they settle.
What arrives
A stove, a manual, and a list of what is not in the box
Every Narvi arrives as the stove itself with its installation manual and warranty. The things that make it work are ordered alongside it: the stones, the chimney or the 6 inch adaptor, and floor or wall protection where the build needs it. Each product page carries the exact list for that stove.
Free curbside freight to the contiguous 48 states on every stove, with the chimney parts and the smaller accessories travelling by parcel. Curbside means the end of your driveway: the Narvi 30 is 331 lbs before stones, so plan the last fifty feet before the truck arrives.
Inspect the pallet while the driver is still there and write any damage on the delivery receipt before you sign. A receipt signed clean makes a freight claim very hard to win.
Warranty
Two years on nine stoves, one on the two Kuru
Narvi warrants its wood stoves for two years in residential use, and our supplier records one year on the Kuru 14 and the Kuru 20. We publish the figure per stove on its own page rather than a single number for the brand.
Non-private use halves the term, and Narvi voids the warranty entirely if the main purpose of use changes during the period. Sauna stones and the firebox fire protection plates are consumables and sit outside it, as does damage from poor ventilation, from storage anywhere not indoors, dry and above freezing, from a room the stove was never sized for, and from non-original parts.
Report a fault in writing within 14 days of finding it. Start with us and we take the claim from there. The full terms are on the Narvi warranty policy page.
Certification, honestly
CE and EN 15821, and no North American listing
Every Narvi stove carries the CE mark and is tested to the European standard EN 15821:2010 by VTT in Finland, notified body 0809. Each product page names the test report for that model and, where Narvi declares them, its efficiency and carbon monoxide figures.
There is no UL, ULC, CSA or ETL listing on any Narvi stove. We checked all six of Narvi’s official English manuals for one and found none, and no US dealer claims one either. CE is a European conformity mark, not a North American listing, and it will not satisfy a US inspector who is looking for one.
You will see the market print “Safety Listing: CE” in a spec field. We do not, because to a US buyer that phrasing reads as a US listing and it is not one. For a solid-fuel appliance this can affect your permit and what a home insurer will accept: your chimney must be a UL 103 Type HT system, the installation follows NFPA 211, and an unlisted appliance is held to 36 inch clearances unless a listed shield is used.
This is the same position as all 45 of the other wood-burning sauna stoves we sell. It is not a mark against Narvi. It is a conversation to have with your building department before you order rather than after.
Questions
Narvi questions buyers ask
Is Narvi part of Harvia?
No. Narvi Oy is an independent Finnish company with its own business registration, and it signs its own declarations of performance as the manufacturer. Harvia's published brand portfolio does not include Narvi. We reach Narvi through a US distributor, which is a separate commercial route from the one we use for Harvia.
Are Narvi stoves UL listed?
No. They carry the CE mark and are tested to EN 15821:2010 by VTT in Finland, notified body 0809. There is no UL, ULC, CSA or ETL listing on any of them, and CE is not a North American listing. Every Finnish wood stove in this category is in the same position.
Do the stoves come with stones?
No, and every one of them needs stones to run. Narvi specifies 10 to 15 cm olivine diabase or vulcanite, which is a coarser grade than an electric heater takes. Each product page gives the weight and the number of boxes for that stove.
Can I use my existing 6 inch chimney?
With an adaptor, yes. Narvi's connective flue is 119 mm, which is 4.7 inches, so it does not meet a 6 inch chimney directly. We stock both Narvi's own chimney system and the adaptor. Whichever route you take, the chimney must be temperature class T600.
What is the difference between the NC and the Narvi Black?
They are two different families. The stoves on this page are the NC in a black casing. Narvi also builds a separate range it calls Narvi Black, which is a narrower cabinet. If you have seen a photograph elsewhere that does not match what is here, that is usually why.
What does VS mean on the Luosto VS?
Water tank. VS is the Finnish vesisailio, and Narvi's English manuals call the same thing WT. The Luosto VS has a 30 litre stainless tank welded to the body with a faucet you can fit on either side. It does not mean stainless steel.
How much wood does one burn?
Narvi declares the test firing for most models, which is the closest any sauna stove maker gets to a consumption figure. A Kuru 14 is declared at 3.5 plus 2 plus 2 kg across the burn; a Narvi 30 at 8 plus 5 kg. Each product page carries the figure for that stove along with its declared efficiency.
Can I put one in a commercial or public sauna?
Ask us first. Narvi files only the Narvi 30 under stoves for professional use, the CE declaration is written for residential buildings, and the warranty halves for non-private use and is void if the purpose of use changes. We will not promise cover the manufacturer does not give.
How long does delivery take?
Most orders leave the distributor's warehouse within one to two weeks. If a model is between containers we tell you the date before we take the order rather than after.
Which stove is the cleanest burning?
The NC 16, on Narvi's own declared figures: 70% total efficiency with carbon monoxide at 0.07% at 13% oxygen, which is the lowest in the range by a wide margin. Narvi itself calls it the cleanest burning sauna stove in the world; we have not found a test body behind that wording, so take the declared figures as the part that is documented.
