What if I need to return it?

14 days from delivery. This window is shorter than most of what we carry. The device must come back unused and like new in its original packaging with all components, accessories and documentation. Devices that have been used or powered on, or are missing components are not eligible.

What a return costs. A 15 percent restocking fee may be deducted from your refund. Return shipping is the buyer's responsibility, and we recommend a trackable, insured carrier.

Cancelling before it ships. Before we submit your order to the manufacturer there is no fee. After we submit it but before it ships, an administrative fee of up to 5 percent may apply, and we waive it whenever we are not charged. Once the device has shipped the 14 day return process applies.

Warranty claims. A manufacturing defect outside the 14 day return window is covered by the manufacturer's warranty in the device's manual from the original purchase date. We handle all warranty coordination with Almagia International on your behalf as an authorized dealer.

To start a return. Call (888) 500-5675 with your order number and proof of purchase and we issue a Return Authorization number with full instructions. Do not ship the device back until you have it, because packages received without a valid RA number will be refused. Refunds are issued within 5 to 7 business days of the device being received and inspected.

Magnetic field and vibrating membrane in one handheld unit

The ELAMED MAGOFON-01 handheld magnetoacoustic device

The MAGOFON-01 is a portable magnetoacoustic device made by ELAMED. One handheld unit carries two sources behind the same flat working surface: a copper winding on an open magnetic core that produces an alternating magnetic field, and a metal membrane that gives off a broadband vibroacoustic signal, which ELAMED likens to the sound of running water. It has no power switch and nothing to set. It starts when you plug it in and stops when you unplug it.

ELAMED makes it in Russia, and Almagia International in Brooklyn, New York, distributes it in the US alongside the ALMAG-01, the ALMAG+, the ALMAG-02 and the DIAMAG. The ALMAG models spread their field along coil emitters; the MAGOFON-01 is the one that pairs its magnetic field with a vibrating membrane on a single face. See the whole line on our Almagia page.

Field at the working surface

30 ± 9 mT

Amplitude of the alternating magnetic field at the flat face. At 0.5 m (20 in) away it is 0.5 mT or less.

Vibroacoustic range

0.02 to 20 kHz

A broadband "white noise" signal from the metal membrane set into the same face.

Vibration stops at

15 minutes

The magnetic field stays on and it beeps every 30 seconds, because further use can heat the working surface. Unplug it and wait at least 30 minutes.

What it is

How the MAGOFON-01 is built

A single electronic unit with a handle, a flat working face and a mains cord attached at the end of the handle.

The working part is the lower, flat face of the unit, and you hold the device by its handle while it runs. Behind that face sit the two sources ELAMED describes in its manual.

The magnetic field. A winding of copper wire on an open magnetic core produces an alternating, non-uniform magnetic field. ELAMED gives its amplitude at the working surface as 30 ± 9 mT, and no more than 0.5 mT at 0.5 m from that surface.

The vibroacoustic membrane. A metal membrane sits in a recess in the same flat face. A frequency generator drives it with a broadband signal from 0.02 to 20 kHz, heard as a "white noise" that the manual compares to running water.

ELAMED's image of the working face: the round membrane sits in a recess of the flat surface, and the handle ends in the mains cord.

Housing, light and markings

The housing and lid are made of an impact-resistant polymer. A light on the top surface marked POWER comes on when the unit is plugged in. The rating label on the housing carries ELAMED's trademark, the device name, its rated power supply and power consumption, the serial number, the year it was made and the words "Made in Russia". The manual notes that small flow marks from the molding may show on the working surface; they are not damage and do not affect how it works.

Size and weight

The unit weighs no more than 0.7 kg (1.5 lb) and measures no more than 200 x 60 x 85 mm (7.9 x 2.4 x 3.3 in), on a mains cord of about 2.1 m (6.9 ft).

Day to day

Using the MAGOFON-01

There are no programs, buttons or settings. Everything the MAGOFON-01 does is tied to the plug.

Starting and stopping

Plug the unit into a wall outlet. The green light comes on, it beeps once, and it reaches its working mode within 1 second, with the membrane running and the magnetic field on. From then on it beeps at the end of every minute. To switch it off, pull the plug out of the outlet, holding the plug body rather than the cord. Choose a place where the cord reaches the outlet without being pulled tight; the manual allows a factory-made extension cord where it does not.

After 15 minutes the vibration stops, but the magnetic field stays on. From that point the unit beeps every 30 seconds to warn that further use can heat its working surface more than intended. ELAMED's current manual says to unplug it then and wait at least 30 minutes before plugging it in again. The magnetic field does not switch itself off: it runs until you pull the plug.

Rated running time

ELAMED's current manual, and the symbol printed on the device, rate the MAGOFON-01 for up to 20 minutes of operation followed by a 30 minute break, a cycle it can keep up for up to 6 hours. The vibration restarts only when the unit is unplugged and plugged in again.

Holding it

Hold the device by its handle with the flat working face toward the body. ELAMED's manual says the working surface can be used through light clothing. The manual says no special training or skills are needed to use it, and it asks you to read the operating manual before the first use.

Checking that it works

ELAMED's English manual lists a magnetic field indicator in the box. With the device plugged in, hold the indicator's flat side against the working surface, and its light comes on when the magnetic field is present; ELAMED's 2025 manual notes that the flat type of indicator vibrates instead. The sound of the membrane tells you the vibroacoustic part is running.

Inspect the housing and the cord before every use. Do not use the device if the housing is cracked or chipped or the cord is damaged, and never open or modify it.

Cleaning

ELAMED asks for the outer surfaces to be disinfected before the first use and after every use. Wipe them twice, 10 to 15 minutes apart, with a cotton or gauze cloth moistened with a disinfectant suitable for plastics, such as 3% hydrogen peroxide with 0.5% detergent, and wring the cloth out first so no liquid gets inside. Clean off dust once a month, or whenever the device passes to another person.

Storage and handling

Use and store the MAGOFON-01 in a dry room, and protect it from damp, knocks, direct sun and heat. The manual gives its operating range as 10 to 35 °C (50 to 95 °F) with relative humidity up to 80%. After use, keep it in its box, and do not twist or kink the cord. Never lift or carry it by the cord. After shipping or storage in the cold, leave it at room temperature for at least 4 hours before you clean it or plug it in. Keep it out of reach of unsupervised children.

Buyer questions

MAGOFON-01 questions buyers ask before ordering

What is the MAGOFON-01?

The MAGOFON-01 is a portable magnetoacoustic device made by ELAMED in Russia and distributed in the US by Almagia International. It is one handheld unit whose flat working surface carries both an alternating magnetic field of 30 ± 9 mT and a metal membrane that gives off a broadband vibroacoustic signal from 0.02 to 20 kHz. It weighs no more than 0.7 kg (1.5 lb).

How do you turn the MAGOFON-01 on and off?

The MAGOFON-01 has no power switch. It starts within 1 second of being plugged in, with a green light and a beep, and you switch it off by pulling the plug out of the outlet, holding the plug body rather than the cord. It beeps at the end of every minute while it runs.

What happens after 15 minutes on the MAGOFON-01?

After 15 minutes the MAGOFON-01 stops its vibration but keeps its magnetic field on, and it beeps every 30 seconds to warn that further use can heat the working surface. ELAMED's current manual says to unplug it then and wait at least 30 minutes before plugging it in again. It is rated for up to 20 minutes on and 30 minutes off.

Is the MAGOFON-01 a PEMF device?

ELAMED's English website lists the MAGOFON among its PEMF devices. Its operating manual describes the field more precisely as an alternating magnetic field of 30 ± 9 mT at the working surface, produced by a copper winding on an open magnetic core, and pairs it with a vibrating membrane. The manual prints no pulse rate or magnetic field frequency.

What comes in the MAGOFON-01 box?

ELAMED's English operating manual lists the MAGOFON-01 handheld unit with its attached mains cord, a magnetic field indicator and the operating manual. The indicator lets you check that the magnetic field is present.

How do I check that the MAGOFON-01 is working?

With the MAGOFON-01 plugged in, hold the flat side of the magnetic field indicator from the box against the working surface; its light comes on when the magnetic field is present. The membrane's "white noise" sound shows that the vibroacoustic part is running during the first 15 minutes.

Who should not use the MAGOFON-01?

ELAMED's manual lists these contraindications: acute purulent inflammatory disease or fever; systemic blood disease, bleeding or a tendency to bleed, a tendency to form blood clots or existing clots, acute thrombophlebitis; markedly low blood pressure, severe coronary heart disease, the early period after a heart attack, the acute period of a stroke; pregnancy; cancer; thyrotoxicosis; diencephalic syndrome; and an implanted pacemaker in the area of application. Consult your physician before use. The manual names adults aged 18 and over as its users.

How loud is the MAGOFON-01?

ELAMED rates the MAGOFON-01's sound power level at 77 dBA or less, and its sound pressure at 300 mm from the device at 0.038 to 1 Pa across its 0.02 to 20 kHz range. The manual describes the sound of the vibrating membrane as "white noise" that resembles running water.

How do I clean the MAGOFON-01?

ELAMED asks for the MAGOFON-01's outer surfaces to be disinfected before the first use and after every use: wipe them twice, 10 to 15 minutes apart, with a wrung-out cloth moistened with a disinfectant suitable for plastics, such as 3% hydrogen peroxide with 0.5% detergent. Keep liquid out of the housing, since the device has no protection against dripping water.

What warranty comes with the MAGOFON-01?

ELAMED's English operating manual sets a 12 month manufacturer warranty on the MAGOFON-01 from the date of sale, covering free repair or replacement of a defective device or its parts. It excludes outside repairs, design changes, mechanical damage, liquids inside and unsuitable mains power. Recovery Room Direct coordinates any warranty claim with Almagia International, the US distributor, on your behalf.
