Free freight to the lower 48. Your order ships on a strapped pallet by insured LTL freight from the manufacturer's California warehouse.
When it ships. Orders are processed within 2 to 5 business days depending on the brand, and delivery to most addresses in the contiguous US takes 5 to 14 business days after shipment. Transit times are carrier estimates, not guarantees.
How you will know. You get a tracking number by email as soon as your order leaves the warehouse. Most carriers then call 24 to 48 hours ahead to lock in a four hour window, and some send an email or text the morning of delivery instead. Respond promptly either way, because missed attempts trigger terminal storage fees.
How it arrives. A 53 foot semi truck arrives at your curbside and the driver delivers the pallet to the curb. Liftgate service is not included as standard, and standard delivery does not include bringing the equipment inside, up stairs, or unpacking. Someone must be present to sign.
If it arrives damaged. Walk around the pallet and check every box before signing the Bill of Lading. Cosmetic damage can be accepted, but if a carton is punctured or crushed, refuse that item and call us on (888) 500-5675 while the driver is still there. Note the damage on the Bill of Lading, photograph it, and contact us within 48 hours. Once the damage is documented on the Bill of Lading we can file a valid freight claim and ship a replacement at no cost to you. Signing a clean Bill of Lading releases the carrier, and claims filed after one are routinely denied. If you refuse for a reason other than damage, or without contacting us first, return freight costs may become your responsibility.
Where it ships. Free freight covers standard residential curbside delivery within the contiguous 48 states. Hawaii, Alaska and Canada are not available at standard checkout, so contact us before ordering for a freight quote.
What does the warranty cover?
What does the warranty cover?
Dynamic Cold Therapy cold plunge tubs are covered by a 1-year limited warranty from Dynamic Cold Therapy, on tubs purchased from an authorized dealer in undamaged original packaging.
What's covered. Defects in materials and workmanship: the polycarbonate insert, the wooden shell and trim, and all other components each carry 1 year. Chillers carry a 1-year manufacturer warranty. Insulated covers carry 1 year and neoprene hose covers 90 days; replacement filters are consumables with no warranty.
What's not covered. Fading or discoloration from UV exposure, damage from storage in below-freezing temperatures, corrosion or discoloration caused by lack of water maintenance, and any labor cost associated with a claim. Coverage applies to the original purchaser and is not transferable.
Keep the water balanced, and don't let it freeze. Corrosion from poor water maintenance and freeze damage are the two most common reasons a claim is declined. Ask us for the maintenance schedule — we'll send it with your order.
Keep your proof of purchase. Note that Golden Designs' 60-day registration portal covers infrared saunas only and does not apply to cold therapy products.
How to make a claim. Contact us — as your authorized dealer we handle the claim with the manufacturer for you. Email sales@recoveryroomdirect.com or call (888) 500-5675 with your order number and photos of the issue.

What if I need to return it?
What if I need to return it?
30 days from delivery. The item must come back new, unused and in its original packaging with all components, hardware and accessories. Anything assembled, used or modified cannot be returned, and electronic components such as power supplies and control panels are non returnable under manufacturer policy regardless of condition.
What a return costs. The manufacturer may charge a 20 percent restocking fee, and you are responsible for the return freight. The original shipping cost is not deducted from your refund. Any storage or carrier routing fees incurred during the return are the buyer's responsibility.
Damaged on arrival. A different process, and you are fully protected. If you accepted the delivery and documented the damage on the Bill of Lading, we handle the freight claim and ship a replacement at no cost, with no restocking fee and no return shipping.
Cancelling before it ships. No fee as long as we have not yet submitted your order to the manufacturer. After we submit it but before it ships, an administrative fee of up to 5 percent may apply, and we waive it whenever we are not charged.
To start a return. Email your order number to sales@recoveryroomdirect.com and we issue a Return Merchandise Authorization number within one business day. Write it clearly on every box, because the warehouse will not accept returns without it. Refunds are issued within 5 business days of inspection.

This black cold plunge tub is the round Dynamic Cold Therapy barrel with a synthetic wood exterior and a PVC interior with the seat built in. Buy the tub alone and use it as an ice bath, or choose it with a 0.8 or 1.0 HP Dynamic Cold Therapy chiller that cools, heats, filters and runs ozone. Three things decide whether it suits your home.
The space

The barrel is 42 inches across and 39.5 inches tall. Add the entry step on one side, and with a chiller, 3 feet of open air around it for ventilation.
The water

Filled by garden hose and drained through a 1 inch outlet that takes a hose. It needs a floor that can get wet and somewhere for that water to go.
The power

Only if you add a chiller: a dedicated 15 amp circuit with a GFCI outlet rated for wet locations. The chiller runs at about 60 to 65 decibels.

The Dynamic Cold Therapy product guide says the round barrel may suit bulky body types better than the oval. It describes the oval barrel, available here as the black oval barrel, as a more compact footprint with lower water use, and the oval’s bench is 27 inches wide.
How full to fill it
The tub manual asks for enough water to cover your whole upper body with your head fully above the line, which it puts at about 70 percent of the tub. Start lower than you think. You displace water when you get in, and an overfilled barrel sends it over the rim and onto whatever is around it, including power cords. With a chiller connected, the chiller manual recommends a water level between the inlet and outlet, because water above both can trap air in the chiller.
Dynamic Cold Therapy does not publish a person count for this barrel, so we do not give one. It has a single bench.
Before you order
Six checks before the black barrel arrives
Each one is quick to settle now and awkward to settle once a crate is at your curb.
- A floor that can carry it filled.The setup guide says to allow for 300 to 450 pounds of tub and chiller plus 800 to 1,000 pounds of water. At the full 145 gallons the water alone is about 1,200 pounds, before a person gets in, so plan on the higher figure. On a deck or an upper floor, have a builder or structural engineer confirm the load.
- A surface that can get wet.The manual asks for a flat, stable, waterproof floor, never carpet. Indoors it should be near a floor drain, in a ventilated room with nothing nearby that water would damage. Outdoors the ground must be smooth, with no stones or branches under the base.
- Water in, water out.A garden hose fills it. The 1 inch drain takes the included hose adapter, so you need a place 120 gallons or more can safely go.
- If you want a chiller, a dedicated circuit.120 volts, 15 amps, a GFCI outlet rated for outdoor and wet locations, and at least 6 feet between the tub and that outlet. The chiller manual asks for a licensed electrician.
- Three feet of open air for the chiller.Never in a closet or cabinet, at least 36 inches clear in front of the fan, and level with the tub rather than above or below it.
- Your winter.If nights go below freezing where the tub will stand, read the winter section first. It changes how you use it from November to March.

Construction
Three things about the black barrel you cannot change later
The exterior is synthetic wood, not cedar. Dynamic Cold Therapy describes it as a premium synthetic wood made to look like timber while resisting moisture, UV exposure and everyday wear, without the upkeep natural wood needs. That is the real difference from the Pacific Cedar barrel, whose natural staves the manufacturer suggests staining or clear coating outdoors.
The interior is PVC. The product guide says PVC is easier to keep looking good and cannot rust or corrode, and recommends it over stainless steel for buyers within 50 miles of the coast, where salt air corrodes metal. If you prefer steel, the black barrel with a 304 stainless interior is the same shell.
The chiller is a separate unit. It sits beside the tub on wheels and connects with two hoses, so it can be serviced or replaced without touching the tub, or added later from our cold plunge chillers. The tradeoff is floor space and the clearance it needs to breathe.

Fading from UV exposure is excluded from the warranty. The tub warranty lists fading or discoloration from UV exposure, and damage to the finish, as exclusions. The manual also asks you to shade or cover the tub when it is not in use, because long periods of direct sun shorten its life. Plan a shaded spot or keep the cover on.
The decision that blocks the purchase
The black barrel’s chiller options, and what they need from your electrics
Both chillers are Dynamic Cold Therapy’s SY-PRO cold and heat units with Wi-Fi, the chiller the manufacturer lists with this tub. Both run on 120 volts and need the same circuit. The 1.0 HP cools faster and draws a little more.

The circuit. The manual’s cover line reads: 120 VAC 15 amp dedicated circuit with GFCI outlet required. The outlet should be rated for outdoor and wet locations, and the manual points to NEC Article 680, the part of the electrical code for pools and spas. Leave the rating to a licensed electrician who knows your local code. The chiller manual is marked for personal and commercial use; for a gym, studio or clinic, compare our commercial cold plunges.
Placement. At least 36 inches clear in front of the fan and 3 feet between every part of the system and the nearest wall, never in a closet, and level with the tub so the pump is not working against gravity. The two supplied hoses are 8 feet long. Both the chiller and the hoses drip condensation while it cools, so a small puddle every day is normal.
How the SY-PRO chiller is meant to be run
The product guide says this chiller performs best set to run daily in 4 to 6 hour intervals, once or twice a day, and suits cooler climates or temperature controlled rooms. It can run continuously with more frequent water care. The manual also recommends scheduling 8 hours of downtime a day, which the Tuya app does. Note that the app connects on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only. Noise is about 60 to 65 decibels, a little louder while the ozone runs, so think about bedroom windows and a neighbour’s fence.
The rule that catches people out
The black barrel in winter, and in full sun
A cold plunge sounds easiest in a cold climate. It is the opposite. Freezing weather is where the documents set hard limits, and freeze damage is excluded from both warranties.

Anywhere nights fall below freezing, that means a cold season routine. Before the first hard frost, drain the chiller through its drain plug and drain the tub. The product guide gives the chiller a narrower 41°F to 104°F range than the manual’s 34°F to 113°F. We quote the manual that ships in the box, and would plan around the narrower figure to be safe. Heat is a limit too
The chillers are rated for outdoor use, but the manufacturer’s FAQ says they are not weather-proofed. It says a chiller can tolerate a little water dripping from your hand. Rain, standing water and hours of direct sun are not, and a chiller in full sun can shut itself off because its sensor reads the air as far hotter than it is. A shaded, ventilated spot solves both problems.
Freeze damage is not covered, on the tub or the chiller. The tub warranty excludes damage from storage below freezing, and the chiller warranty excludes damage from use at or below 32°F. Decide where the tub goes for winter before you choose where it stands in summer.

The arithmetic: rated input watts from the chiller manual, times hours, times 18.34 cents per kilowatt hour, the US residential average in the EIA’s Electric Power Monthly for June 2026. Your own rate will differ, so swap it in.
How long the first cool down takes is the gap. The manufacturer’s documents give two pictures. The delivery guide says pre-chilling can take 1 to 4 hours, depending on the tub and the starting water. The chiller manual gives a reference rate of 1 to 3°F every 40 minutes on the 0.8 HP and every 20 minutes on the 1.0 HP. Taking tap water from 65°F to 50°F at that rate works out at roughly 3 to 10 hours on the 0.8 HP and 2 to 5 hours on the 1.0 HP. We would plan on the slower figure, especially in warm weather.
The running costs people forget
Filters and water care. The chiller comes with three 20 micron cartridges and the manual asks for a new one about every 20 plunges, or sooner when it is dirty or the flow drops. Balanced water needs a test kit, pH and alkalinity adjusters, and a sanitizer, and the manufacturer recommends changing the water at least once a week with a chiller, more often with heavy use, or every 3 to 5 days without one. The tub manual also asks you to consult a pool supply store before using pool chemicals, to let them dissolve fully before anyone gets in, and never to add them to an empty tub, and it notes that damage from improper chemical use is not covered.

Setup
Getting the black barrel running
The tub manual has no assembly steps. You position the tub, connect the chiller if you have one, fill, and check the flow.
- Place the tub and chiller on a level surface, side by side.Then leave the chiller standing upright for at least 20 minutes before switching it on, so the fluid in the compressor settles. The chiller manual warns that skipping this can cause damage the warranty does not cover.
- Tape the threads and fit the gaskets.Wrap all four threads, two on the tub and two on the chiller, clockwise with Teflon tape three times, as the chiller manual asks, check each hose end has its gasket, and fit the shutoff valves to the tub. Hand tight only, because overtightening strips the threads.
- Connect in a loop, fill, then check the flow.The chiller inlet goes to the tub outlet, and the chiller outlet to the tub inlet. Fit the filter and mesh strainer, fill, and confirm the flow reads above 15 liters a minute. If it does not, recheck the filter and look for kinks in the hoses.
What the Dynamic Cold Therapy manual asks of you in the water
The manual’s safety instructions, before the first session. Inspect the tub for breaks or leaks before you fill it. Keep electrical appliances at least 5 feet away, and never operate one while you are in the tub or your body is wet. Consult a physician before starting, and in particular if you have a history of heart disease, low or high blood pressure, circulatory problems or diabetes, or take medication that affects drowsiness, heart rate or blood pressure. The manual warns that alcohol, drugs or medication before or during a plunge may lead to loss of consciousness with the possibility of drowning. Enter feet first and breathe steadily, without holding your breath or hyperventilating, and get out at once if you feel weak or lose control of your hands, arms or legs. The manual notes that prolonged immersion below 70°F risks hypothermia and that core temperature can keep falling after you get out, so do not drive or operate tools or heavy machinery straight afterwards. Keep children away unless supervised, keep pets away, and lock the cover when the tub is not in use.

What we can and cannot tell you about the black barrel yet
The black barrel is a new 2026 model. We have no owner reports on it yet, and we are not going to borrow reviews from the cedar version.
What is new
The synthetic wood exterior. The PVC insert, the fittings and the SY-PRO chiller follow the rest of the barrel range, and the product page gives the same outside size as the cedar barrel.
What is easy to miss
The dedicated GFCI circuit, the 3 feet of clearance around the chiller, and the freeze rules. All three are in the manuals rather than on the product page, and the last one is a warranty condition.

Is the black exterior real wood?
No. Dynamic Cold Therapy describes it as a premium synthetic wood made to look like natural timber, with resistance to moisture, UV exposure and everyday wear, and without the upkeep that real wood needs. If you want natural staves, the Dynamic Cold Therapy Pacific Cedar barrel is the same size with a cedar exterior.
Do I need a chiller with the Dynamic Cold Therapy black barrel?
No. The tub works on its own as an ice bath. Without a chiller there is no filtration, so the tub manual says to keep it covered and replace the water every 3 to 5 days. A chiller cools and heats the water, filters it through a 20 micron cartridge and runs ozone, and the manufacturer recommends changing it at least once a week, more often with heavy use.
Should I choose the 0.8 HP or the 1.0 HP chiller?
Both are the same SY-PRO chiller in two sizes and need the same 120 volt, 15 amp dedicated GFCI circuit. The manual’s reference cooling rate is 1 to 3°F every 40 minutes for the 0.8 HP and every 20 minutes for the 1.0 HP, so the 1.0 HP roughly halves the wait. It draws 12.8 amps against 11.3 and weighs 88 pounds against 68.5. If the shorter wait matters to you, choose the 1.0 HP.
What electrical circuit does the chiller need?
A dedicated 120 volt, 15 amp circuit with a GFCI outlet, which the chiller manual lists as required. The outlet should be rated for outdoor and wet locations and sit at least 6 feet from the tub. The manual refers to NEC Article 680 and asks for a licensed electrician, who should confirm the rating for your local code.
Can the black barrel stay outside through a freezing winter?
Not in use. The chiller manual says to drain the chiller and stop using it below 33.8°F, and the tub manual says not to store or use the tub below freezing. Freeze damage is excluded from both warranties. Where winters freeze, drain both before the first hard frost and store them dry, and think about that routine when you choose where the tub stands.
Will I fit in the Dynamic Cold Therapy black barrel?
The barrel is 42 inches across outside and about 39 inches inside at the rim, with a bench 9 inches high, 38 inches wide and up to 16 inches deep. The product guide says the round barrel may suit bulky body types better than the oval. It does not publish a person count, and it has a single bench.
How much water does it hold, and how do I drain it?
120 to 145 gallons, filled with a garden hose to about two thirds or three quarters full. To drain it, unscrew the drain cap. The included adapter connects the 1 inch drain to a standard garden hose so you can run the water somewhere suitable. Keep the pH between 7.2 and 7.8, because damage from water outside that range is not covered.
How loud is the chiller, and where can it go?
About 60 to 65 decibels, a little louder while the ozone cycles. It needs at least 36 inches clear in front of the fan and 3 feet between the system and any wall, never a closet or cabinet, and it should sit level with the tub. The supplied hoses are 8 feet long, and both the chiller and the hoses drip condensation while cooling.
When will the black barrel ship, and how is it delivered?
The manufacturer lists this model as available from October 2026, and we confirm your ship date by email after you order. It travels as a crate on a pallet by semi truck, most carriers call 24 to 48 hours ahead to book a delivery window, and the driver delivers it to the curb. Liftgate service is not included as standard. Check every box before you sign the Bill of Lading, and if a carton is punctured or crushed or the tub is damaged, refuse it and call us while the driver is there. Cosmetic damage can be accepted.
What does the warranty cover, and who handles a claim?
Dynamic Cold Therapy gives the tub a 1 Year Limited Warranty on the insert, the shell and trim and all other components, and the chiller a 1 year warranty from the date of sale. Exclusions include UV fading, freeze damage, corrosion from poor water care and labor. We open the claim with the manufacturer for you. The terms are on our Dynamic Cold Therapy warranty policy page.
