How does delivery work?
How does delivery work?
Free freight to the lower 48. Your order ships on a strapped pallet by insured LTL freight from the manufacturer's California warehouse.
When it ships. Orders are processed within 2 to 5 business days depending on the brand, and delivery to most addresses in the contiguous US takes 5 to 14 business days after shipment. Transit times are carrier estimates, not guarantees.
How you will know. You get a tracking number by email as soon as your order leaves the warehouse. Most carriers then call 24 to 48 hours ahead to lock in a four hour window, and some send an email or text the morning of delivery instead. Respond promptly either way, because missed attempts trigger terminal storage fees.
How it arrives. A 53 foot semi truck arrives at your curbside and the driver delivers the pallet to the curb. Liftgate service is not included as standard, and standard delivery does not include bringing the equipment inside, up stairs, or unpacking. Someone must be present to sign.
If it arrives damaged. Walk around the pallet and check every box before signing the Bill of Lading. Cosmetic damage can be accepted, but if a carton is punctured or crushed, refuse that item and call us on (888) 500-5675 while the driver is still there. Note the damage on the Bill of Lading, photograph it, and contact us within 48 hours. Once the damage is documented on the Bill of Lading we can file a valid freight claim and ship a replacement at no cost to you. Signing a clean Bill of Lading releases the carrier, and claims filed after one are routinely denied. If you refuse for a reason other than damage, or without contacting us first, return freight costs may become your responsibility.
Where it ships. Free freight covers standard residential curbside delivery within the contiguous 48 states. Hawaii, Alaska and Canada are not available at standard checkout, so contact us before ordering for a freight quote.
What does the warranty cover?
What does the warranty cover?
How long. Cold plunge tubs carry a 1-year limited warranty, when bought from an authorized dealer in undamaged original packaging.
What is covered. Defects in materials and workmanship. The polycarbonate insert, the wooden shell and trim and all other components each carry 1 year, and chillers carry a 1-year manufacturer warranty. Insulated covers carry 1 year, neoprene hose covers 90 days, and replacement filters are consumables with no warranty.
Labor. Any labor cost associated with a claim is not covered. Coverage applies to the original purchaser and is not transferable.
What you have to do. Keep the water balanced and do not let it freeze. Corrosion from poor water maintenance and freeze damage are the two most common reasons a claim is declined. Keep your proof of purchase.
What is not covered. Fading or discoloration from UV exposure, damage from storage in below-freezing temperatures, and corrosion or discoloration caused by lack of water maintenance.
What if I need to return it?
What if I need to return it?
30 days from delivery. The item must come back new, unused and in its original packaging with all components, hardware and accessories. Anything assembled, used or modified cannot be returned, and electronic components such as power supplies and control panels are non returnable under manufacturer policy regardless of condition.
What a return costs. The manufacturer may charge a 20 percent restocking fee, and you are responsible for the return freight. The original shipping cost is not deducted from your refund. Any storage or carrier routing fees incurred during the return are the buyer's responsibility.
Damaged on arrival. A different process, and you are fully protected. If you accepted the delivery and documented the damage on the Bill of Lading, we handle the freight claim and ship a replacement at no cost, with no restocking fee and no return shipping.
Cancelling before it ships. No fee as long as we have not yet submitted your order to the manufacturer. After we submit it but before it ships, an administrative fee of up to 5 percent may apply, and we waive it whenever we are not charged.
To start a return. Email your order number to sales@recoveryroomdirect.com and we issue a Return Merchandise Authorization number within one business day. Write it clearly on every box, because the warehouse will not accept returns without it. Refunds are issued within 5 business days of inspection.

A Cold Plunge That Earns Its Place in Any Space. Indoor or Out.
The DCT Pacific Cedar Barrel isn’t a folding stock tank or an inflatable tub. It’s a 42-inch cedar barrel with a plastic liner, built-in ergonomic seat, a solid cedar entry step, and a locking insulated cover. Ready to pair with a chiller or run on ice. It’s the cold plunge setup that stays put, looks intentional, and works for every protocol from 60-second cold showers-plus to serious 10-minute daily immersion. Choose Tub Only, or select a With Premier Chiller configuration above to receive the tub and DCT’s WiFi-controlled chiller together as one complete system.
Shop Pay Installments financing available at checkout.
Cold therapy used to require a gym, a cryo chamber, or a very dedicated bathtub.
Professional athletes have used cold water immersion for decades. The challenge for home practitioners has always been the setup. Most tubs aren’t deep enough for full shoulder immersion, ice bags are expensive and inconvenient at daily frequency, and inflatable pools lack the structural integrity and insulation for serious daily use.
The Pacific Cedar Barrel solves all three. At 42 inches in diameter and 39.5 inches deep, it delivers full shoulder and neck immersion for most adults. The Pacific Cedar exterior weathers outdoor conditions and looks at home in any backyard, deck, or patio environment. The plastic interior liner is smooth, hygienic, and significantly easier to clean than raw wood alternatives. Chiller inlet and outlet valves are built in. Add the DCT 0.8HP chiller anytime for precision temperature control, or run the barrel on ice while you decide.
Available in Grey and Green. Both finishes look good alongside outdoor furniture, sauna installations, and dedicated recovery spaces. The included Pacific Cedar step makes entry and exit consistent and safe. The insulated cover with child safety latches keeps the water clean between sessions and addresses pool safety requirements in most residential settings.

Cold Water Immersion: What the Research Shows
Cold water immersion (CWI) is one of the most researched recovery modalities in sports science. Unlike trending wellness practices backed by limited data, immersion protocols have been studied in athlete populations for over four decades. Here’s what that research consistently demonstrates, stated in accurate terms and without overclaiming:
Cold exposure triggers vasoconstriction during immersion and rapid vasodilation immediately after, a pumping effect that supports circulation and may help reduce the systemic inflammation that follows intense physical effort. The cold shock response activates the autonomic nervous system, producing norepinephrine releases that research has measured at 200 to 300% above baseline, supporting alertness, mood, and focus in the hours after a session. Consistent daily cold exposure produces hormetic adaptation. The body becomes measurably more efficient at thermoregulation and stress response over time.
Note: cold water immersion products are wellness and recovery tools. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition. Consult a healthcare professional before beginning a cold immersion protocol, particularly if you have cardiovascular conditions.

Research shows cold water immersion at 57 to 60°F produces 200 to 300% elevations in norepinephrine, a neurotransmitter associated with alertness, focus, and mood. Effects last 2 to 4 hours post-immersion, making morning cold plunges a popular daily habit for focus.
Most published CWI protocols use water at 10 to 15°C (50 to 59°F) for sessions of 10 to 15 minutes. This range produces meaningful physiological response without the risks of extreme cold. A quality chiller maintains this range consistently without ice management.
Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) results from micro-tears, systemic inflammation, and neural fatigue following intense training. Cold immersion is widely used by athletes post-training to support the body’s recovery response, and used by professional teams across NFL, NBA, and Olympic programs.
Start here if you’re new to cold immersion. Achievable with cold tap water in many regions (especially winter) or 15 to 20 lbs of ice. Duration: 30 to 90 seconds. Focus on controlled breathing rather than duration.
The range most CWI studies use. Achievable with consistent ice management (25 to 35 lbs) or a chiller set to 50 to 55°F. Duration: 2 to 5 minutes. Most users reach this range within 2 to 4 weeks of consistent practice.
Requires a chiller. Ice management at this temperature is difficult to maintain consistently. The Premier chiller holds water between 37°F and 85°F. Duration: 1 to 3 minutes. Not recommended without prior cold adaptation experience.
Construction: Why Cedar Outside, Plastic Inside
The combination of Pacific Cedar exterior and plastic interior isn’t a cost compromise. It’s a deliberate materials decision based on what each surface needs to do well.
Pacific Cedar (Western Red Cedar) has natural oils that resist moisture absorption, rot, and insects without chemical treatment. It’s the wood used in outdoor furniture, boat decking, and traditional saunas for the same reason: it handles wet environments better than most species. The barrel exterior will be exposed to temperature changes, moisture, and potentially direct weather. Cedar handles all three without warping or deteriorating the way pine or hemlock would.
Raw wood interior surfaces in cold plunge applications present maintenance challenges: wood absorbs water, harbors bacteria in pores, discolors, and requires more aggressive chemical sanitation to keep water clean between sessions. The PVC/plastic liner is non-porous, smooth, chemically neutral, and significantly easier to clean. It also provides a layer of thermal insulation between the water and the cedar shell, reducing heat transfer and helping maintain your target temperature between sessions.

Details That Matter for Daily Use

The solid cedar step makes entry and exit consistent and safe at 39.5 inches of barrel height. Critical for daily practice. You’re stepping over the barrel rim when your feet are wet and cold. The included step removes that moment of risk, especially during the disorientation that follows cold immersion.

Both inlet and outlet valve connections are installed on the barrel. Select a With Premier Chiller configuration above and the chiller ships connected-ready with hoses included. No plumbing, no drilling, no professional installation. Choosing Tub Only ships the barrel chiller-ready with capped 3/4" ports, so ice works from day one and a chiller can be added at any time.

The custom cover does two jobs: it insulates the water between sessions (significantly reducing temperature loss and ice melt rate), and it latches with child-safety locks to meet residential pool safety requirements in most jurisdictions. Store covered when not in use and your water temperature is maintained for 24 to 48 hours depending on ambient conditions.
The integrated seat inside the barrel positions you for consistent immersion depth every session. Seated, most users are submerged to shoulder and neck level in the 42" diameter barrel. No separate seat insert to float, shift, or remove before entering. The seat is a structural part of the barrel, not an accessory.
Pacific Cedar is weather-resistant without surface treatment. It can live outdoors on a deck, patio, or backyard year-round in most climates. It also works indoors in a garage, basement, or dedicated recovery room. Place it on a level surface that can carry about 1,190 to 1,400 pounds filled, before a person gets in. On an elevated deck or an upper floor, have a builder or structural engineer confirm the load.
Both color options use Pacific Cedar with a powder-coated or stained exterior band finish. Grey is the more versatile finish for most spaces. Pairs cleanly with stone, concrete, or neutral outdoor furniture. Green reads as more naturalistic, looking at home alongside garden or wooded outdoor settings. Both age well with basic cedar maintenance (annual oil or sealant application recommended for outdoor installations).
Prefer no wood upkeep? The Dynamic Cold Therapy black barrel cold plunge is the same 42 inch barrel with a black synthetic wood exterior and the same PVC interior.
Add the Premier Chiller. One Complete Cold Plunge System
Select a With Premier Chiller configuration above and the Pacific Cedar Barrel ships as a complete system. Tub and DCT’s Premier Edition Chiller & Heater together, connected with the included quick-connect hoses. Prefer to run on ice or add a chiller later? Tub Only ships chiller-ready with capped 3/4" ports, so ice works from day one.
Cools and Heats, One Unit. Dynamic Cold Therapy sells the Premier as a cold and heat system. It holds water anywhere from 37°F to 85°F on the one unit. Control it from the digital LED panel or the WiFi app, set your target before you leave the gym and step into ready water.
0.8 HP or 1.0 HP, Sized to Your Routine. Dynamic Cold Therapy publishes no maximum tub size, and says every DCT chiller works with every DCT cold plunge. By the Premier manual the 0.8 HP gives 2,000 W of cooling and the 1.0 HP 3,100 W. The reference cooling rates differ between the manufacturer’s own documents: the manual gives 1 to 3°F every 60 minutes for the 0.8 HP and every 40 for the 1.0 HP, while the product guide gives every 40 and every 20. Either way the 1.0 HP is the faster of the two, which matters most in hot climates or for back to back sessions.
Clean Water, Automatically. Built-in filtration and automated ozone sanitation keep water clear between full changes. Every Premier chiller needs a dedicated 120 V, 15 A circuit with a GFCI outlet, and carries a 1 year warranty. The manufacturer’s FAQ says the chillers are rated for outdoor use but are not weather-proofed, so keep rain and direct sun off the unit.

DCT Premier Edition Chiller & Heater with WiFi App
Cools and heats, 37°F to 85°F. Built-in ozone sanitation, filter, and strainer. Control it from the digital LED panel or the WiFi app. Available in 0.8 HP and 1.0 HP. Select your configuration above to order the tub and chiller together as one system.
See Full Chiller Specifications →Cold Plunge Protocol: Starting Right

Cold immersion is a practice that builds over weeks and months. Start conservatively. The goal in the first two weeks is building comfort with controlled breathing in cold water, not maximizing duration or temperature. Here’s a structured approach:
Who Uses a Cold Plunge Daily
You train hard 4 to 6 days a week and feel the accumulated soreness. You’ve tried ice baths in bathtubs. It’s messy, inconsistent, and too shallow for proper immersion. The DCT Barrel gives you a dedicated post-training protocol that takes 5 minutes of setup and delivers full immersion every session.
You’ve listened to the research on norepinephrine, hormetic stress, and cold adaptation. You understand the data. You want a setup that supports a real daily practice. Not an ice bath that takes 20 minutes to prepare and drains money every session. The barrel is your foundation; the chiller is your precision tool.
A DCT barrel paired with a chiller gives your facility a professional, visually appealing cold plunge setup at a fraction of the cost of custom installations. Durable, easy to maintain, available in branded color options. We offer commercial pricing for multi-unit orders. Call (888) 500-5675 for details.
Questions about setup, chiller pairing, or commercial orders? Our team knows the DCT lineup in detail. Call (888) 500-5675 and we’ll walk through your situation, whether you need one barrel for a home practice or six for a recovery facility buildout.

Three approaches to cold water immersion at home, and what each one actually costs:
| DIY Ice Bath | DCT Barrel (Tub Only) ✓ | DCT Barrel + Chiller | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ongoing Cost Per Session | Ice, at local prices | Ice, or about 15 cents an hour of rated input with a 0.8 HP Premier | About 15 cents an hour of rated input, 23 cents on the 1.0 HP |
| Temperature Control | None, melts throughout session | Manual (ice) or chiller-ready (add later) | Holds the temperature you set |
| Minimum Temp Achievable | ~38 to 45°F with heavy ice | With a Premier chiller, 41°F by its manual and 35°F by the product guide | With a Premier chiller, 41°F by its manual and 35°F by the product guide |
| Immersion Depth | Shallow (bathtub) or leg-only (stock tank) | Seated, shoulder deep in a 39.5 in barrel | Seated, shoulder deep in a 39.5 in barrel |
| Filtration | None, drain after each use | Without a chiller, the manual says every 3 to 5 days | Ozone and filter come with the chiller; change the water at least weekly |
| Aesthetics | Functional, not decorative | Cedar barrel, looks intentional in any space | Cedar barrel + external chiller unit |
| Setup Time Per Session | 15 to 20 min (filling + ice) | 0 min with chiller / 10 to 15 min with ice | 0 min, water is always at target temp |
| Year-Round Outdoor Use | Weather-dependent | Yes, Pacific Cedar handles outdoor exposure | Yes, chiller operates in most climates |
Honest take: If you are testing whether cold immersion fits your life, start with the tub only and ice. A chiller removes the ice run and holds the temperature you set, and costs about 15 cents an hour of rated input to run on the 0.8 HP Premier. What it saves against ice depends entirely on local ice prices, so we will not put a payback period on it. Buying the barrel now and the chiller later is a reasonable staged approach.
Want a 304 stainless steel interior instead of PVC? See the Pacific Cedar Barrel (304 Stainless Steel Interior). Same shape and capacity, same Tub Only / With Premier Chiller options.
What a Chiller Costs to Run
820 watts of rated input from the Premier manual, at the US residential average of 18.34 cents per kilowatt hour. The 1.0 HP Premier draws 1,260 watts, about 23 cents an hour.
The product guide suits the Premier to 10 to 12 hour runs or continuous use. Ten hours at rated input is about a dollar and a half on the 0.8 HP, and about two dollars and thirty cents on the 1.0 HP.
Ice prices differ by region and by how cold you want the water, so we will not put a monthly figure or a payback period on it.

Shipping & Delivery
The DCT Pacific Cedar Barrel ships via LTL freight carrier at no charge to your address. Curbside delivery on a pallet. Estimated transit: 7 to 14 business days from order date.
Filled, the barrel is about 1,190 to 1,400 pounds before a person gets in, and 187 pounds empty. The manual asks for a flat, stable, waterproof surface that can carry that weight; on a deck or an upper floor, have a builder or structural engineer confirm the load. Moving a filled barrel isn’t feasible. Choose the permanent spot before filling.
The barrel arrives assembled. Setup involves placing the unit, attaching the step, and filling with water. If adding a chiller: connect the two hose connections to the inlet/outlet valves and plug in. No plumbing, no tools beyond basic hand-tightening.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a chiller, or can I use this barrel with ice?
You can absolutely use it with ice. And many buyers start that way to establish their practice before committing to a chiller. How much ice a session takes depends on your tap water temperature, your target and whether the cover is on, so we will not publish a figure or a monthly ice cost. The barrel has inlet and outlet valve connections pre-installed. Adding a chiller later is a straightforward hose connection, no modifications required. Both DCT 0.8HP and 1.0HP Premier chillers pair directly with this barrel; select a With Premier Chiller configuration above to order the tub and chiller together as one system.
Can I order the Pacific Cedar Barrel (Plastic) with a chiller included?
Yes. Select a With Premier Chiller configuration above and the order ships as a complete system: the tub plus the Premier Edition chiller in your choice of 0.8 HP (2,000 W of cooling) or 1.0 HP (3,100 W). The Premier needs a dedicated 120 V, 15 A circuit with a GFCI outlet, connects through the included quick-connect hoses, and is controlled from its digital LED panel or the WiFi app. Tub Only orders are chiller-ready, so a chiller can also be added later.
How do I maintain the water between sessions without a chiller?
Without a chiller, which is what carries the ozone and the filter, water maintenance means either frequent water changes or treating the water. Most users without a chiller follow one of two approaches: (1) drain and refill every 3 to 5 days, which is what the tub manual asks for without filtration; or (2) treat it, using pool chemicals such as chlorine sparingly and per their instructions, keeping pH between 7.2 and 7.8. The manufacturer’s FAQ advises against bromine, which it calls especially corrosive to its tubs and chillers. Keep the insulated cover on between sessions to reduce evaporation, UV degradation, and debris accumulation. Shower before entering the plunge to significantly reduce contamination. This is the most impactful single maintenance habit.
Can this be used outdoors year-round?
Yes for most climates. Pacific Cedar is naturally weather-resistant and handles outdoor exposure well. For outdoor installations: (1) apply cedar oil or an outdoor wood sealer once or twice a year to maintain the wood’s appearance and longevity; (2) in freeze climates (sustained temperatures below 32°F), you’ll need to either drain the barrel before hard freezes or keep a chiller running at a non-freezing temperature. A barrel full of frozen water can crack the PVC liner. For winter cold plunging in freeze climates, a chiller allows you to set a low-but-not-freezing temperature consistently. Call us at (888) 500-5675 if you have questions about your specific climate situation.
How heavy is the barrel filled with water? What surface can it sit on?
The Dynamic Cold Therapy product guide gives the round barrel 120 to 145 gallons. Water weighs 8.34 pounds a gallon, so that is about 1,000 to 1,210 pounds of water, plus 187 pounds for the barrel with its plastic insert. Plan for this before choosing your installation spot: ground-level concrete slabs and patios handle this easily. Wood decks: ensure the deck is rated for at least 100 lbs per square foot under the barrel footprint. Verify with a structural engineer if unsure. Basement concrete floors are typically fine. Second-floor installations require structural verification. Do not place on soft soil or grass without a solid base pad (concrete pavers work well).
How long does it take to cool the water to my target temperature with ice?
Cooling rate depends on starting water temperature, target temperature, and ambient air temperature. As a practical guideline: how much ice it takes depends on your tap water temperature, your target and whether the cover is on. Pre-cool with the cover on overnight for the coldest possible starting temperature before adding ice. A chiller eliminates this calculation entirely. It holds your target temperature around the clock.
Is cold plunging safe for everyone?
Cold water immersion is not appropriate for everyone. People with cardiovascular disease, heart arrhythmias, Raynaud’s syndrome, uncontrolled hypertension, or pregnancy should consult a physician before beginning a cold immersion practice. The cold shock response produces rapid changes in heart rate and blood pressure, which can be significant for individuals with cardiovascular conditions. Children should not use cold plunge equipment without direct adult supervision and medical clearance. For healthy adults without cardiovascular risk factors, a gradual entry protocol (starting at milder temperatures and short durations) is the appropriate approach. Always enter and exit with a stable support (the included step) and have a towel and warm clothing nearby.
Does the barrel come assembled?
Yes. The barrel arrives fully assembled. Delivery is curbside freight on a pallet. Setup involves moving the barrel from curbside to your installation location (2 to 3 people for the barrel; it’s heavy but manageable), placing the cedar step, and filling with water. If connecting a chiller, attach the two hose connections to the inlet and outlet valves (hand-tight, no tools required for the fittings). Total setup time from delivery: 30 to 60 minutes including filling. You can be in the water the same day it arrives.
What’s the warranty, and what does it cover?
The DCT Pacific Cedar Barrel carries a 1-year manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. This covers the barrel structure, PVC liner, and hardware. Normal wear on the cedar exterior (weathering, color change, minor checking) is not covered. This is expected behavior in natural wood. Damage from freeze/thaw cycles (cracking due to frozen water) is not covered under warranty. Drain the barrel before hard freezes if you don’t have a chiller maintaining a non-freezing temperature. For warranty service questions, contact our team at (888) 500-5675.
