How does delivery work?

Free shipping to the contiguous 48. On every SunRay sauna, by freight from Richmond, Virginia. The estimate on each product page is in business days.

Freight to the curb. A kit of panels or barrel staves, in cartons on a pallet. The freight company calls to book a window, someone signs, and residential deliveries come on a lift gate truck. Plan for two or more people.

Hard to reach addresses. If a truck cannot reach you, a smaller vehicle may cost extra, and we tell you before the delivery is booked.

When it ships. In-stock saunas usually leave SunRay's warehouse within 1 to 2 business days of SunRay receiving the order, and you get a tracking email when it leaves.

If it arrives damaged. Note it on the delivery receipt before signing and photograph it. Refuse a punctured or crushed pallet and call us while the driver is there; for minor damage, call before the driver leaves. Report anything found after unpacking within 48 hours.

Where we ship. The contiguous 48 states. We do not ship SunRay to Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico.

Not included: the electrical work and the assembly. A licensed electrician hardwires the Harvia heater on a traditional sauna to 240 V. Professional setup and assembly is available on the indoor saunas, and by quote on the others.

What does the warranty cover?

Structure: 10 years. The wooden panels, floor, ceiling and glass, from the original date of purchase, for the parts needed to repair a defect. If a structural defect cannot be fixed with a part, SunRay may send a replacement sauna; assembling it is then your cost.

Parts and electronics: 1 year. Every other part, including the heater and the electrical components. Parts replacement only: labor for fitting a part is not covered.

Not covered. Alteration, neglect, misuse, freight damage caused by the carrier, accidents and acts of God. Surface cracks and minor blemishes in the wood are natural, not defects. Report delivery damage within 48 hours, before assembly.

Two conditions decide most claims. Residential use only, because a commercial setting voids the warranty. And installed, run and maintained to the instructions: indoor saunas stay indoors, and an outdoor sauna without a weather cover needs its exterior resealed every year.

Who is covered. The original customer at the original delivery address. The warranty cannot be transferred.

Ask before a repair. Get SunRay's written consent before any repair you expect to be reimbursed. SunRay decides the cause of a fault and whether to repair or replace.

Who handles it. We are a factory-authorized SunRay dealer and file the claim for you. Call us with your order number, the model and photographs.

What if I need to return it?

20 days from the ship date. New, unassembled and resalable; the ship date is in your tracking email. We handle the return, so you do not contact SunRay.

Unassembled means returnable. In its original packaging and crate with the manuals and accessories. A sauna that has been assembled, wired in or heated cannot go back.

What a return costs. A restocking fee of 20% of the purchase price may apply on a change-of-mind return. There is none on a documented freight damage claim.

Who pays the return freight. You do on a change of mind. We cover it when the cause is shipping damage or our error.

Original shipping. We never deduct the original shipping from your refund.

Damaged on arrival. A different and faster process. Note it before signing and photograph it. Refuse a punctured or crushed pallet and call us while the driver is there. Report anything found after unpacking within 48 hours.

Cancelling before it ships. No fee before we place the order with SunRay. After that an administrative fee of up to 5% may apply, and we waive it whenever we are not charged. If we miss our own ship date, you cancel with no fee.

To start a return. Call us for a Return Authorization number before anything ships back. Refunds go to the original payment method within 7 business days of the return being received and inspected.

The short answer

The SunRay Cayman is a 4 person outdoor traditional sauna with two bench tiers and a glass front

The Cayman, SunRay model 400D7, seats four on an upper and a lower bench behind a black-framed glass front. A 6 kW Harvia electric heater with stones heats a hemlock room 68 inches wide, and a metal roof caps a cabin that stands under 85 inches tall.

Two tiers are the point of this model. The upper bench sits higher in the hot air, the lower one is cooler, and each person chooses their level. It is the pick for four people who want that choice in a low, modern cabin.

Choose your heat

Cabin and roof

The cabin is 71.7 by 61.4 inches and the metal roof 85.4 by 69.3, both 84.7 inches tall. On a tight site, the roof's 85.4 inch width is the number to check against walls and fences.

How four people sit

The upper and lower benches drop onto supports already fixed to the walls, and a backrest mounts on the back wall. In a 68 by 58 inch room, that gives four adults room across two levels, with the heater in its wooden frame alongside.

The heater

The SunRay Cayman heater: 6 kW Harvia with stones, and the warm-up to expect

A 6 kW Harvia electric heater with stones, set in a wooden frame, heats the Cayman.

Run it dry, or ladle water over the stones and the room fills with steam; the bucket and ladle come with it. For the setting, SunRay's outdoor traditional manuals recommend 125 to 170 F, and 170 F is SunRay's stated maximum. Expect 45 to 60 minutes of warm-up from cold, the figure in those manuals, and the upper end when the weather is cold. The use page of the Cayman's own D7 manual prints 120 to 140 F and 8 to 15 minutes, figures written for SunRay's infrared cabins; for a 6 kW stone heater, go by the traditional figures above and the Harvia heater manual.

Once the room holds the set temperature, the heater cycles on and off. Sessions, SunRay advises, should not run past 30 minutes. The Harvia manual for the heater is in the shipment.

The roof

The D7 manual builds the top in two layers. An interior ceiling lifts over the walls and rests on supports already on them. Above that, a roof frame goes on in two sections screwed together in the middle, and two sheets of metal composite roofing slide over it and are screwed down.

Sealing, now and every year

The D7 manual says the cabin is sealed with a weather sealant that breaks down outdoors over time, so it recommends resealing annually or as needed. The SunRay warranty makes the yearly reseal a condition for an outdoor sauna without a weather cover. The manual also asks for a moisture barrier between the floor and any damp surface or pavers.

More backyard cabins are in our outdoor saunas collection.

Before you order

Before the SunRay Cayman ships: base, clearance and a 240 V circuit

Settle the ground and the wiring before the freight is booked.

  • A moisture barrierRequired by the manual over pavers, damp ground or any surface in ground contact
  • Width for the roof85.4 by 69.3 inches, and 84.7 inches of height
  • Dedicated 240 V circuitHard-wired to the heater by a licensed electrician
  • A caulking gunThe sealant ships with the cabin; have a gun ready to apply it
  • Two to four adultsThe D7 manual's assembly crew
  • Permit and setbackYour building department, and your HOA if you have one, decides whether a detached backyard sauna needs a permit and how far back from the lot line it sits

Wiring

The Cayman's 6 kW heater needs 240 V, on a dedicated circuit, hard-wired by a licensed electrician. The electrician sizes the circuit from the heater manual and the National Electrical Code.

Hard-wired, not plugged in. The D7 manual mentions a dedicated power outlet, but the Cayman's 6 kW heater is hard-wired by a licensed electrician on its own 240 V circuit. Give your electrician the 6 kW rating and the Harvia manual that ships with the heater.

Running cost

Assembly

Assembling the SunRay Cayman 4 person outdoor sauna

The D7 manual asks for two to four adults.

Lay the floor level, with a moisture barrier under it if it will sit on pavers. Run the included sealant along the bottom edge of the back wall, stand it against the floor support, and attach the side walls with their pre-installed buckles. The front wall goes on the same way; taking the glass door off its hinges first makes the front wall easier to attach. Lift the interior ceiling over the walls onto its supports, then fit the upper and lower benches and the backrest.

Assemble the wooden frame and set the heater in it. Mount the dome light in the top corner of the back wall and feed its wire up through the ceiling. Screw the two roof frame sections together and to the side walls, slide on the metal roof sheets and fix them. Finish with the door handle, the hygrometer and sand timer on a side wall, and a bead of sealant down every vertical outside corner and around the door frames. The electrician connects the heater last.

Delivery day

SunRay Cayman delivery: free to the curb, lift gate included

Free freight across the lower 48 to your curb, on a lift gate truck, with a business day estimate in the buy box. SunRay's freight figure is 963 pounds.

Before delivery

The freight company calls to agree a time. Someone must be home to inspect and sign; book the helpers who will carry the panels.

At the truck

Before signing, inspect the pallet, each carton and the large glass front panels. Photograph damage and note it on the receipt.

Before you build

Open the cartons soon and check the glass, the walls and the roof sheets. Our SunRay shipping policy sets out the steps.

Broken glass or crushed cartons: record it on the delivery receipt and call us at (888) 500-5675 before the truck leaves. Carrier damage is outside the SunRay warranty, so the receipt note is what supports the claim. A heavily damaged delivery may be refused.

Returns. A return is open for 20 days from the date it ships, with the cabin unassembled and crated as it came. If you simply change your mind, the return freight is yours and a 20% restocking fee may apply; we do not deduct the original shipping. Details: the SunRay return policy.

Pick the Cayman over the Denali for tiered seating, a glass front and a roof that needs less depth; pick the Denali for cedar and seating on one level. If only three will use it, the Seneca keeps the 6 kW heater in a smaller cedar cabin.
