How does delivery work?

Free shipping to the contiguous 48. On every SunRay sauna, by freight from Richmond, Virginia. The estimate on each product page is in business days.

Freight to the curb. A kit of panels or barrel staves, in cartons on a pallet. The freight company calls to book a window, someone signs, and residential deliveries come on a lift gate truck. Plan for two or more people.

Hard to reach addresses. If a truck cannot reach you, a smaller vehicle may cost extra, and we tell you before the delivery is booked.

When it ships. In-stock saunas usually leave SunRay's warehouse within 1 to 2 business days of SunRay receiving the order, and you get a tracking email when it leaves.

If it arrives damaged. Note it on the delivery receipt before signing and photograph it. Refuse a punctured or crushed pallet and call us while the driver is there; for minor damage, call before the driver leaves. Report anything found after unpacking within 48 hours.

Where we ship. The contiguous 48 states. We do not ship SunRay to Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico.

Not included: the electrical work and the assembly. A licensed electrician hardwires the Harvia heater on a traditional sauna to 240 V. Professional setup and assembly is available on the indoor saunas, and by quote on the others.

What does the warranty cover?

Structure: 10 years. The wooden panels, floor, ceiling and glass, from the original date of purchase, for the parts needed to repair a defect. If a structural defect cannot be fixed with a part, SunRay may send a replacement sauna; assembling it is then your cost.

Parts and electronics: 1 year. Every other part, including the heater and the electrical components. Parts replacement only: labor for fitting a part is not covered.

Not covered. Alteration, neglect, misuse, freight damage caused by the carrier, accidents and acts of God. Surface cracks and minor blemishes in the wood are natural, not defects. Report delivery damage within 48 hours, before assembly.

Two conditions decide most claims. Residential use only, because a commercial setting voids the warranty. And installed, run and maintained to the instructions: indoor saunas stay indoors, and an outdoor sauna without a weather cover needs its exterior resealed every year.

Who is covered. The original customer at the original delivery address. The warranty cannot be transferred.

Ask before a repair. Get SunRay's written consent before any repair you expect to be reimbursed. SunRay decides the cause of a fault and whether to repair or replace.

Who handles it. We are a factory-authorized SunRay dealer and file the claim for you. Call us with your order number, the model and photographs.

What if I need to return it?

20 days from the ship date. New, unassembled and resalable; the ship date is in your tracking email. We handle the return, so you do not contact SunRay.

Unassembled means returnable. In its original packaging and crate with the manuals and accessories. A sauna that has been assembled, wired in or heated cannot go back.

What a return costs. A restocking fee of 20% of the purchase price may apply on a change-of-mind return. There is none on a documented freight damage claim.

Who pays the return freight. You do on a change of mind. We cover it when the cause is shipping damage or our error.

Original shipping. We never deduct the original shipping from your refund.

Damaged on arrival. A different and faster process. Note it before signing and photograph it. Refuse a punctured or crushed pallet and call us while the driver is there. Report anything found after unpacking within 48 hours.

Cancelling before it ships. No fee before we place the order with SunRay. After that an administrative fee of up to 5% may apply, and we waive it whenever we are not charged. If we miss our own ship date, you cancel with no fee.

To start a return. Call us for a Return Authorization number before anything ships back. Refunds go to the original payment method within 7 business days of the return being received and inspected.

The short answer

The SunRay Freeport is a 3 person outdoor traditional sauna with a glass-paned door and one front window

Model 300D1 in SunRay's outdoor line, the Freeport gives three adults a 55 inch bench in a hemlock cabin 61 inches wide. A 4.5 kW Harvia electric heater with stones does the work, and a black pitched metal roof tops the cabin. Water on the stones turns dry heat into steam whenever you want it.

It is the step up for a household that has outgrown two seats but still wants a modest footprint in the yard. Its sister model, the Waverly, keeps the same size and heater with more glass at the front.

Clearance for the roof

SunRay gives the roof as 73 by 63 inches. Its current D1/D2 manual prints 73 by 73, so on a tight site leave 73 inches clear in both directions.

Seating three

The 55 inch bench runs along the back wall. Three adults sit in a row with their backs to the wall. Compared with the two seat Eagle, the room gains 12 inches of width and 2 of depth.

The heater

The SunRay Freeport Harvia heater: 4.5 kW with stones, wet or dry

Inside a wooden guard frame sits a 4.5 kW Harvia electric heater with a bed of stones.

A traditional sauna works by heating the air and the stones. Leave the stones dry, or tip a ladle of water over them for a rush of steam; the wooden bucket and ladle are in the box. SunRay's Traditional Outdoor Series manual puts the comfortable setting at 125 to 170 F, and SunRay states 170 F as the maximum. The same manual allows roughly 45 to 60 minutes to warm the cabin before you go in. On a cold day outdoors, count on the full hour.

Once the room reaches the setting, the heater turns itself off and on to hold it. SunRay advises keeping each session to 30 minutes or less.

Running it

Everything is on a wall keypad: power, the session timer, the temperature with a Fahrenheit or Celsius display, the inside light, color-changing LED lighting, and music over the built-in Bluetooth speaker system. The timer goes up to 99 minutes. Cup holders, a sand timer and a thermo-hygrometer are fitted too.

The Harvia manual for the heater comes with the sauna.

Construction

How the SunRay Freeport outdoor sauna is built

Hemlock, joined tongue and groove into double-panel walls, sealed outside and capped with a pitched roof.

Freeport build, per SunRay
Species Hemlock
Walls Double-panel, tongue and groove
Front Wooden door with a multi-pane window, plus a front window
Roof Black pitched metal roof, flat ceiling beneath
Exterior care Sealed, per SunRay; it asks for a reseal every year
Fittings Color LED, Bluetooth speakers, cup holders

The roof

A black pitched metal roof, screwed down in sections to a wooden support at the center over a flat ceiling, with ridge caps over the seams.

The yearly reseal

SunRay lists the exterior as sealed and asks you to apply a fresh coat once a year, and the SunRay warranty requires it for any outdoor sauna kept without a weather cover. Do not hose the outside down; SunRay's manual says not to spray the exterior with water.

Other backyard options are in our outdoor saunas collection.

Before you order

SunRay Freeport site checklist: foundation, clearance and a 240 V circuit

A short list, and each item is cheaper to fix now than after the pallet is at your curb.

  • FoundationA concrete pad, wood deck or pavers. SunRay's manual rules out placing the cabin directly on the ground
  • Damp groundLay a floor separator or moisture barrier first if the surface holds water
  • Roof spaceClear 73 inches each way and 100 inches up, away from trees and gutters
  • ElectricalA dedicated 240 V circuit, hard-wired to the heater by a licensed electrician
  • AccessDelivery stops at the curb, so map how two people will carry an 819 pound shipment in, panel by panel
  • UpkeepPut a yearly reseal of the exterior on the calendar
  • Local rulesYour building department, and any HOA, can tell you whether a freestanding sauna needs a permit and what setback from the property line applies

Wiring the Freeport

The 4.5 kW heater runs at 240 V, on a dedicated circuit, hard-wired by a licensed electrician. SunRay's sauna manual defers the voltage and amperage to the heater manual, and the electrician sizes the circuit from that manual and the National Electrical Code.

Hard-wired, not plugged in. The Freeport's heater is hard-wired by a licensed electrician; it does not plug into an outlet.

Running cost

SunRay Freeport electricity cost per hour, month and year

Every input is shown: 4.5 kW at full power and 18.34 cents per kilowatt hour, from the EIA Electric Power Monthly for June 2026.

Each hour flat out

$0.83

4.5 kilowatt hours at 18.34 cents.

Each month

$16.09

13 sessions of 1.5 hours: the warm-up hour and 30 minutes of use.

Each year

$193

Three sessions a week, all year.

Full power is the ceiling, not the typical draw. After warm-up the heater cycles on and off to hold the temperature.

Assembly

SunRay Freeport outdoor sauna assembly

Two adults at least, by SunRay's manual.

Lay the floor panel on the base, stand the back wall on it, and buckle the side walls to it from inside before the front wall closes the cabin the same way. The heater drops into its wooden frame and is connected to the cabin's power box, the bench and backrest go in, and the hygrometer and sand timer are screwed to the walls. The flat ceiling is placed next and its wires joined to their matching pairs. Finally the metal roof is screwed in sections onto a wooden center support, and the ridge caps go over the seams with the sealant SunRay packs for them.

The roof is the heavy, awkward part at full height, so a third helper is worth having that day. When the cabin is complete, your electrician makes the heater connection.

Delivery day

SunRay Freeport delivery: free curbside freight in the lower 48

Shipping is free to the curb on a lift gate truck, and the buy box shows the estimate in business days. SunRay's freight figure is 819 pounds.

Before delivery

The freight carrier phones to set a delivery window. Arrange for an adult to be there, plus hands to move the panels.

At the truck

Inspect the pallet and cartons before signing anything. Photograph damage and describe it on the delivery receipt.

Before you build

Open everything promptly and look over the panels, door and roof parts. The SunRay shipping policy explains the process.

Note any damage on the receipt and phone us at (888) 500-5675 before the truck pulls away. Carrier damage sits outside the SunRay warranty, so that written note is the evidence for the claim. Seriously damaged freight can be refused.

Returns. If the Freeport is not right, it can go back within 20 days from the date it ships, still unassembled in its crate. A change of mind means you pay the return freight and a 20% restocking fee may apply; the original shipping is not deducted. How it works: the SunRay return policy.

Between the three seat models: the Waverly is the Freeport with two front windows and more daylight; the Seneca changes to western red cedar, a metal roof and a 6 kW heater on the same cabin footprint. For four seats, move to the Denali or the Cayman.

Warranty

The SunRay Freeport warranty, from SunRay's certificate

Ten years on what the cabin is made of. One year on what makes it hot.

The SunRay warranty certificate covers the wooden panels, the flooring, the ceiling and the glass for 10 years from purchase, as the parts needed to fix a defect. The heater and all electrical components are covered for 1 year, as parts replacement; labor to fit a part is not included. Cover is for residential use only, and commercial use voids it.

Two conditions matter outdoors. A sauna kept without a weather cover must have its exterior resealed every year, and freight damage caused by the carrier is excluded, so check the delivery carefully. The warranty stays with the original buyer at the original address. Start any claim with us; we deal with SunRay. The SunRay warranty policy summarizes the certificate, and we will email the full certificate on request before you order.

Buyer questions

The cabin is 61 by 51 inches. The roof spreads to 73 by 63 inches; on a tight site, allow 73 inches each way. The peak is 100 inches high.

How many people fit in the SunRay Freeport?

Three adults, seated on a 55 inch bench in an interior 57 inches wide, 47 deep and 73 high.

About 45 to 60 minutes from cold, according to SunRay's Traditional Outdoor Series manual, to a setting between 125 and 170 F. Expect the full hour on a cold day.
