How does delivery work?

Free shipping to the contiguous 48. On every SunRay sauna, by freight from Richmond, Virginia. The estimate on each product page is in business days.

Freight to the curb. A kit of panels or barrel staves, in cartons on a pallet. The freight company calls to book a window, someone signs, and residential deliveries come on a lift gate truck. Plan for two or more people.

Hard to reach addresses. If a truck cannot reach you, a smaller vehicle may cost extra, and we tell you before the delivery is booked.

When it ships. In-stock saunas usually leave SunRay's warehouse within 1 to 2 business days of SunRay receiving the order, and you get a tracking email when it leaves.

If it arrives damaged. Note it on the delivery receipt before signing and photograph it. Refuse a punctured or crushed pallet and call us while the driver is there; for minor damage, call before the driver leaves. Report anything found after unpacking within 48 hours.

Where we ship. The contiguous 48 states. We do not ship SunRay to Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico.

Not included: the electrical work and the assembly. A licensed electrician hardwires the Harvia heater on a traditional sauna to 240 V. Professional setup and assembly is available on the indoor saunas, and by quote on the others.

What does the warranty cover?

Structure: 10 years. The wooden panels, floor, ceiling and glass, from the original date of purchase, for the parts needed to repair a defect. If a structural defect cannot be fixed with a part, SunRay may send a replacement sauna; assembling it is then your cost.

Parts and electronics: 1 year. Every other part, including the heater and the electrical components. Parts replacement only: labor for fitting a part is not covered.

Not covered. Alteration, neglect, misuse, freight damage caused by the carrier, accidents and acts of God. Surface cracks and minor blemishes in the wood are natural, not defects. Report delivery damage within 48 hours, before assembly.

Two conditions decide most claims. Residential use only, because a commercial setting voids the warranty. And installed, run and maintained to the instructions: indoor saunas stay indoors, and an outdoor sauna without a weather cover needs its exterior resealed every year.

Who is covered. The original customer at the original delivery address. The warranty cannot be transferred.

Ask before a repair. Get SunRay's written consent before any repair you expect to be reimbursed. SunRay decides the cause of a fault and whether to repair or replace.

Who handles it. We are a factory-authorized SunRay dealer and file the claim for you. Call us with your order number, the model and photographs.

What if I need to return it?

20 days from the ship date. New, unassembled and resalable; the ship date is in your tracking email. We handle the return, so you do not contact SunRay.

Unassembled means returnable. In its original packaging and crate with the manuals and accessories. A sauna that has been assembled, wired in or heated cannot go back.

What a return costs. A restocking fee of 20% of the purchase price may apply on a change-of-mind return. There is none on a documented freight damage claim.

Who pays the return freight. You do on a change of mind. We cover it when the cause is shipping damage or our error.

Original shipping. We never deduct the original shipping from your refund.

Damaged on arrival. A different and faster process. Note it before signing and photograph it. Refuse a punctured or crushed pallet and call us while the driver is there. Report anything found after unpacking within 48 hours.

Cancelling before it ships. No fee before we place the order with SunRay. After that an administrative fee of up to 5% may apply, and we waive it whenever we are not charged. If we miss our own ship date, you cancel with no fee.

To start a return. Call us for a Return Authorization number before anything ships back. Refunds go to the original payment method within 7 business days of the return being received and inspected.

The short answer

The SunRay Charleston is a 4 person cedar indoor traditional sauna with two bench tiers

The Charleston (SunRay model 400TN) is the four seat cabin in the same SunRay series as the Aston and the Hampton: cedar, 71 inches wide by 63 deep, with an upper and a lower bench and a 6 kW Harvia electric heater. The heater's stones take water from the included ladle, so every session can be dry, steamy or anywhere between.

It is built for a family or a group of friends who sauna together, with enough bench that SunRay says two people can stretch out when it is not full. Compare it across brands among our traditional saunas.

Capacity

Four on two tiers

Upper and lower benches with backrests: sit high for more heat, low for less.

Interior

It starts on the two panel glass front, then shows the back wall with its backrest boards and ceiling light, the vent slots in the ceiling, the bucket and ladle on the bench, the door handle, the two levels of benches and the Harvia heater in its guard, and ends on the cabin against a white background.

Room to sit four, or lie back with two

At 67 inches wide inside, four people sit across the two levels, and SunRay notes the bench layout lets two people stretch out when the cabin is not full. The upper tier sits in the hottest air under the ceiling and the lower one in milder air, so a group with different tastes can share a session.

Planning the floor and the ceiling

The Charleston takes about 31 square feet of floor. Its height of 80 inches, plus the 3 to 4 inches SunRay wants above the roof, means the ceiling should be at least 84 inches, which is 7 feet. Most finished basements and every 8 foot room clear that, but check under beams and ducts before you order.

The heat

Inside the SunRay Charleston sauna: the 6 kW Harvia heater

The heater stands in a wooden frame next to the benches, with its stones on top.

The 6 kW Harvia heater

SunRay's TN manual and its data sheet give the Charleston a 6 kW Harvia heater, a step up from the 4.5 kW in the three seat Hampton.

Steam, by the ladle

SunRay includes a wooden bucket and ladle. Water poured on the hot stones turns to steam and lifts the humidity; no water and you have dry heat. Watch both numbers on the thermo-hygrometer on the wall.

How long, how hot

SunRay's TN manual tells you to allow approximately 12 to 15 minutes for the sauna to warm up before a session. Its newer Harvia heater sheet allows 45 to 60 minutes for the room to reach a usable temperature, which is the figure to plan on in a cool basement. The cabin heats up to 170 F, SunRay's stated maximum. The manual has you set the temperature on the heater's thermostat; once the cabin gets there, the heater turns itself off and on to hold the setting.

Hot stones, hot steam. The heater and its stones burn on contact, and a big pour of water sends up boiling steam. SunRay's TN manual advises sessions of no more than 30 minutes, plenty of water to drink, and leaving at once if you feel light headed.

Construction

Cedar walls, a glass front with an upgraded handle, a dome light and ceiling ventilation.

Cedar

The 2026 Charleston is cedar; earlier units were hemlock.

The front and the door

The front is glazed with tempered glass, and the door carries what SunRay lists as an upgraded handle, a long stainless steel bar.

Light and air

A dome light lights the cabin from the ceiling. SunRay lists ventilation in the ceiling as well, and the manual notes that the vent or the door can be opened at any time to let air in.

Before you order

Five things to check before ordering the SunRay Charleston sauna

They cover the floor, the ceiling and the wiring: a tape measure and one call to an electrician settle all five.

  • 71 by 63 inches of floorLeave working room around it for raising the walls and fitting the roof
  • A 7 foot ceiling, at least80 inches of cabin plus SunRay's 3 to 4 inches above it
  • Sturdy, level groundThe TN manual asks for a solid level surface and, on a floor that can get damp, a moisture barrier below the cabin
  • One 240 V circuit for the saunaHard-wired to the heater by a licensed electrician
  • An indoor roomThe cabin has no weather roof, and SunRay's warranty keeps indoor saunas indoors

The electrician's brief

Give your electrician three facts: a 6 kW Harvia electric heater, 240 V, a dedicated circuit with a hard-wired connection. SunRay's TN manual sends them to the heater manual for the voltage and current, and they size the circuit from it and from the National Electrical Code.

Running cost

Running the SunRay Charleston sauna: electricity per session

This allows 90 minutes of heater time, warm-up included, three times a week. Inputs: 6 kW, and 18.34 cents per kWh, the US residential average for June 2026 in the EIA's Electric Power Monthly.

A 90 minute session

$1.65

9 kWh at 18.34 cents.

A month

$21.46

Three a week, 19.5 hours, 117 kWh.

A year

$257

156 sessions, 234 hours, 1,404 kWh.

Each is a ceiling. After warm-up the heater cycles to hold the temperature, so it is not drawing 6 kW for the full 90 minutes. Shared four ways, the session figure is about 41 cents a person. Use your own rate from your bill in place of ours.

Assembly

How to assemble the SunRay Charleston sauna

The TN manual covers the Charleston, and its walls clip together with buckles built into the panels.

Begin with the bottom panel on a flat, hard, level surface. Stand the back wall on its rear edge and fasten the right and left walls to it with the built in buckles. Add the front wall, place the roof, and attach the door handle.

Next, route the heater cable through the hole in the side wall and put together the wooden frame the heater stands in; the licensed electrician makes the connection. Then set in the bottom bench, the top bench and the backrest. Screw the hygrometer, sand timer and dome light into place with the screws provided, running the light's wire through the ceiling to connect it inside the heater.

The manual asks for at least two adults.

Delivery day

SunRay Charleston sauna delivery to your curb

Freight is free to the curb across the lower 48, on a lift gate truck, and SunRay's product sheet gives the shipping weight as 555 pounds. The buy box shows the expected delivery window in business days.

Before delivery

The carrier calls to arrange a slot. Have an adult home to sign and a couple of people to help carry the cartons in.

At the truck

Inspect every carton before signing. Crushed corners, holes or water marks: photograph them and write them on the receipt.

Before you build

Unpack and check the glass, the wall panels and the benches while the cartons are still there.

Should you change your mind, start the return within 20 days of the date the Charleston ships, before anything is assembled. Change-of-mind returns travel back at your cost and a 20% restocking fee may apply; the original shipping is never deducted.

Damage visible at delivery belongs on the receipt, in writing, before the driver leaves, and call (888) 500-5675 while the driver is still there. Freight terms: our SunRay shipping policy. Returns: our SunRay return policy.

The SunRay Charleston and its closest SunRay indoor traditional saunas

Against the Tiburon, the Charleston sits on 71 by 63 inches to its 63 by 69, an inch taller, in cedar where the Tiburon is hemlock, with the heater in a floor frame rather than on a wall rack. The Galaxie seats four in SunRay's LX finish, with a cultured stone back wall, color-changing LED lighting and Bluetooth audio, on a footprint 8 inches shallower. Three seats enough? The Hampton is the same cedar cabin for three.

Warranty

SunRay Charleston sauna warranty, cabin and heater

SunRay's warranty certificate, the single document that applies to this sauna, splits cover in two: the room for ten years, the working parts for one.

What the certificate covers
10 year structure Wooden sauna panels, flooring, ceiling and glass. Parts needed to repair them, or a replacement sauna at SunRay's discretion
1 year parts All sauna parts including the heater and electrical components, as parts only. Labor to fit them is not covered
Use Residential. Commercial use voids the warranty, and indoor saunas must be used indoors
Owner The original customer at the original delivery address; no transfer

Before you buy, note three points: SunRay does not count surface cracks or minor blemishes in the wood as defects; the interior should only be cleaned with a water soluble cleaner meant for unfinished wood; and SunRay must agree in writing before a repair if you want it reimbursed. Our SunRay warranty policy page carries the full terms, and we can email you the certificate.

Buyer questions

SunRay Charleston 4 person traditional sauna FAQ

How big is the SunRay Charleston?

71 inches wide, 63 deep and 80 tall outside; 67 by 59 inches and 72 inches high inside. SunRay asks for 3 to 4 inches or more above the roof, so the room's ceiling needs to be at least 84 inches.

Does the SunRay Charleston have a 6 kW or an 8 kW heater?

6 kW. SunRay's relaunched site shows 8 kW, but SunRay's own Charleston page from May 2026, its 2024 data sheet and the TN assembly manual all give 6 kW.

What electrical work does the SunRay Charleston need?

A dedicated 240 volt circuit, hard-wired to the 6 kW Harvia heater by a licensed electrician. SunRay's TN manual refers the electrical requirements to the heater manual, which the electrician uses with the National Electrical Code to size the circuit.

How quickly does the SunRay Charleston heat up?

SunRay's TN manual allows about 12 to 15 minutes before a session, and its newer Harvia heater sheet 45 to 60 minutes to a usable temperature; allow the longer time in a cold room. It heats up to 170 F, SunRay's stated maximum.

Is the SunRay Charleston cedar?

Yes, current builds are cedar. SunRay switched the Charleston from hemlock to cedar in early 2026; Charlestons built before that were hemlock.

What is the SunRay Charleston warranty?

Ten years on the wooden panels, flooring, ceiling and glass, and one year on every part including the heater and electrical components, parts only. Cover is for home use by the original owner at the original address, and commercial use voids it.

How is the SunRay Charleston delivered?

Free freight to the curb in the lower 48, on a lift gate truck, at a shipping weight of 555 pounds. An adult must be present to sign; check the cartons first and write any visible damage on the delivery receipt.

Can two people lie down in the SunRay Charleston?

SunRay says the two tier double bench seats four, or lets two people stretch out. The interior is 67 inches wide, so how fully you can stretch depends on your height; a tall adult will not lie flat at full length.
