How does delivery work?
How does delivery work?
Free shipping to the contiguous 48 states on every Saunum heater, AirSolo and AirIQ control, and on any order above our free shipping threshold. A smaller accessory ordered below the threshold carries a flat charge, shown at checkout before you pay.
Ships from Wheeling, Illinois. We do not ship Saunum to Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico.
Heaters come by freight. The Air, Air L and Air Perfect ship palletized. The carrier calls to book a window, someone has to sign, and the delivery is curbside rather than inside, so plan for two people to carry it in.
Smaller items come by parcel. The AirSolo, the AirIQ control, stones and safety rails travel by ground parcel with no appointment, and they can arrive on a different day from the heater.
Stones ship in their own boxes. 33 pounds each: 4 boxes for an Air or Air Perfect, 6 for an Air L. Stones added from a Saunum heater's page ship free with that heater.
When it ships. The estimate on each product page is the distributor's usual dispatch time for stocked items. We confirm stock with the distributor when you order, and if your model is out of stock we tell you the new date before anything ships. Working to a deadline? Ask us first.
If it arrives damaged. Note it on the delivery paperwork, photograph the carton and the contents, and report it within 48 hours of delivery, before the heater is installed. Saunum's warranty excludes transport damage. Refuse a punctured or crushed pallet and call us while the driver is there.
Not included: the electrical work. A certified electrician hardwires the heater to 240 V through the AirIQ control unit, and the AirSolo to 120 V.
What does the warranty cover?
What does the warranty cover?
Heaters: 2 years in a private sauna. The Air, Air L and Air Perfect, from your purchase date. The manual that ships with the heater gives no commercial term, so ask us before buying for a gym, spa or rental.
AutoLeil. 2 years in a private sauna, labor excluded.
AirSolo and AirIQ. 2 years in a home sauna and 1 year in a commercial or public one. The AirSolo cover includes labor and spare parts. The AirIQ cover is parts, for the first installation and the original purchaser.
Excluded on the heaters. Labor, the heating elements and the salt spheres, plus wear, transport damage, misuse, improper installation, repairs outside Saunum's repair partners, and stones or salt spheres Saunum does not recommend.
Two conditions decide every claim. A completed installation report goes in with the claim, and the product must have been connected by a qualified electrician. The report form is in the back of the manual, so keep a copy.
Delivery damage. Report it within 48 hours of delivery, with photographs and before installing, because transport damage is not a warranty matter.
Who handles it. Claims go to Saunum's US technical support at Bathing Brands, and we take them there for you. Call (888) 500-5675 with your order number, model, serial number and photographs.
What if I need to return it?
What if I need to return it?
30 days from purchase. On a Saunum heater, AirSolo, AirIQ control or accessory that is new, uninstalled and resalable, in the original packaging with all parts. We handle the return, so you do not contact Saunum or the distributor.
Installed means final. A heater that has been wired in, switched on or loaded with stones cannot go back, and neither can an AirIQ or AirSolo that has been wired in, or an accessory that has been fitted.
What it costs. Full credit for the product, less a repackaging fee of 20 to 50 dollars depending on the item. There is no percentage restocking fee on a standard return.
Who pays the freight. You do on a change of mind. We cover it when the cause is shipping damage or our error. We never deduct the cost of free shipping from your refund, but shipping you paid at checkout is not refunded on a change of mind return.
Damaged on arrival. Note it on the delivery receipt before signing, photograph it, and report it within 48 hours of delivery, before the product is installed.
Stones. Not returnable once a box is opened, since stone is sold by weight.
Cancelling before it ships. No fee before we send the order to the distributor. After that an administrative fee of up to 5 percent may apply, and we waive it when we are not charged ourselves.
To start a return. Call (888) 500-5675 for a Return Authorization number before anything ships back. Refunds go to the original payment method within 7 business days of the return being received and inspected.

The short answer
The Saunum Air 5: a 5 kW electric sauna heater with a fan that carries ceiling heat down to bench level
The Air 5 is the smaller of the two Saunum Air heaters, rated for 106 to 212 cubic feet at 240 volts, with a fan near its base that pulls ceiling air down the flue and out beneath the benches.
You pick a black steel basket that encloses the stones or an open stainless steel one, and the AirIQ control that runs it is added in the buy box. The stone heater and Saunum's climate fan come in one body, seven Himalayan salt spheres are in the box, and sauna heater financing can spread the cost. See the whole line in our Saunum sauna heaters collection.

Saunum's installation film for the Air, shot on the closed black basket: unboxing, the flue cap and flue, the wiring entry, loading the stones and setting the salt sphere tray.
It is an installer's film with captions on screen and no narration. The wiring belongs to a licensed electrician, and the manual that ships with your heater is the reference. The aroma bowl you see in the tray comes with Saunum's aroma oil set, sold separately.

Sizing
Will the Saunum Air 5 heat your sauna room?
Saunum rates the Air 5 for 106 to 212 cubic feet, which is 3 to 6 cubic meters, and asks for 73 inches or more of ceiling height.
Saunum's method, from the Air installation manual
The December 2025 Air manual sizes the heater on volume, then adjusts for what the walls are made of. Start with the room's length, width and height in feet, multiplied together. If the walls are solid log, plank or stave without internal insulation, multiply that figure by 1.5. Then each square foot of cold surface, meaning glass, tile, brick, concrete or stone, earns 3.0 more cubic feet. The manual's own worked example counts a 24 square foot glass door as 72 extra cubic feet, so a glass door counts. Building a room, or choosing one of our traditional saunas? The same sums apply.
| Room, solid wood door | 6 ft x 4.5 ft x 6.5 ft = 175.5 cu ft: under 177, an Air 5 room |
|---|---|
| Swap in a 14 sq ft glass door | 14 x 3.0 = 42 cu ft added |
| Effective volume with glass | 175.5 + 42 = 217.5 cu ft: past the Air 5's 212, an Air 7 room |
Air 5 or the next size up
Saunum's rule is that a volume falling between two heater sizes takes the larger one. The Saunum Air 7 covers 177 to 318 cubic feet, so an effective volume in the band both heaters cover, 177 to 212, belongs on the 7. The manual also warns against going too big: an oversized heater heats the air fast but leaves the stones lagging, with poor steam. An insulated room under 177 cubic feet is what the Air 5 is for. For a second opinion, put your measurements into our sauna heater finder, or read our sauna heater buying guide.
How the fan works
How the Saunum Air 5 moves heat from the ceiling to the bench
The Air 5 pairs its elements with what Saunum calls a climate device: a fan near the base, joined by the flue to an intake at the ceiling.
The air path
The intake cap sits against the ceiling at the top of the telescopic flue. When the fan runs, it draws the hottest air in the room down through the flue and pushes it out of a grille near the floor. A valve on the left side of the heater admits cooler air from the lower part of the room as well; Saunum sets it about a third open from the factory, and you open it further to cool the steam or close it to warm it.
Three speeds, and when to use them
The fan has three speeds, chosen on the AirIQ control. Saunum's manual says to keep it switched off during the initial heat-up, start it just before you go in and not leave it running in an empty room; the AirIQ can also start the fan by itself to protect the sauna from overheating. Should the air at the bottom of the heater pass 176 °F, the fan shuts off on its own and comes back once that air cools.

What Saunum says it does for the room
Saunum says its air-mixing system lowers heat toward the benches and floor and spreads the steam through the room instead of leaving it to gather at the ceiling. That is the maker's description. If you like a more traditional feel, the speed is yours to set, and Saunum suggests finding your setting by starting at the lowest temperature and lowest airflow rate.
Stone basket
Saunum Air 5 stone basket: closed black steel or open stainless steel
Both baskets are the same price. The open one holds more stone and wants more room around it.
| Closed, black steel | About 110 lb of stone; 2 in to combustibles at the sides and front |
|---|---|
| Open, stainless steel | About 130 lb of stone; 6 in to combustibles at the sides and front |
| Both | 40 in from the top of the basket to the ceiling; 20 in of open space before the fan outlet |
| Against the wall | The rear panel is the one side allowed against the wall or ceiling panels |

How to choose
Take the closed basket for a tight room, since 2 inches to the side walls leaves more length for benches. Take the open one to show the stones, if you can spare 6 inches each side and in front. A niche behind the heater may be no deeper than 3.9 inches, and where a side distance comes up short, Saunum's manual calls for that structure to be noncombustible.
The stones themselves
No stones come with the heater. Bathing Brands, Saunum's US distributor, specifies four 33 pound boxes for the Air 5, and Saunum's stones are olivine diabase, rounded, between 2 and 4 inches; order them in the buy box and they ship free by parcel, which can arrive on a different day from the heater's freight. Stack them by hand, the larger ones low, never resting on the elements and never above the top of the basket. Light porous ceramic stones are out, and the manual asks for a restack at least once a year.
Before you order
Saunum Air 5 installation: ten things to settle before you order
All ten come from Saunum's Air manual and its US distributor's product data.
- Dedicated circuit, 240 voltsSingle phase, 4,950 watts, 20.63 amps, hardwired by a licensed electrician; breaker and cable sizes are the electrician's call, from the manual and the NEC
- No GFCI breakerThe manual forbids one on this heater, since it can trip unprompted
- The AirIQ controlRequired to run the Air 5 and sold separately. Its panel mounts outside the sauna room, clear of splashes
- Ceiling of 73 inches or moreThe flue telescopes from 73 to 95 inches so the intake cap can meet the ceiling
- Clearances40 in from basket to ceiling, 20 in of open space before the fan outlet, 2 in (closed) or 6 in (open) at the sides and front
- Bench heightKeep the air outlet's top edge below the bench's lower edge, with nothing blocking the outlet
- Temperature sensorFix it to a wall at 2 inches from the ceiling, not over the heater, and keep it 20 inches or more from vents, windows and doors
- VentilationFresh air enters within a foot of the floor, near or under the heater; exhaust sits between 24 and 47 inches high, well away from it, for at least six air changes each hour
- The junction boxSplashproof, mounted within 20 inches of the floor, where the heater connects
- An insulated roomThe manual expects the sauna to be insulated before the heater goes in
Running cost
What the Saunum Air 5 costs to run
The sums use the Air 5's rating of 4,950 watts (4.95 kilowatts) and a price of 18.34 cents for each kilowatt hour, the June 2026 national residential figure from the EIA's Electric Power Monthly.
One hour, full power
$0.91
4.95 kilowatt hours.
A 2 hour evening
$1.82
Warm up and session together, 9.9 kilowatt hours.
Three evenings a week
$283.24
156 evenings in a year, 1,544.4 kilowatt hours.
These are ceilings: once the room is hot, the thermostat switches the elements in and out, so actual use comes in below full draw.

Choose the Air 5 when your effective volume is under 177 cubic feet; its circuit is the lighter of the two. From 177 up, Saunum's larger-heater rule points to the Air 7, and bigger rooms move to the Air L sizes. All of them sit with our electric sauna heaters, part of our full range of sauna heaters.
Warranty and certification
Saunum Air 5 warranty and UL listing
Saunum warrants the Air 5 for two years in a private home sauna, against defects in materials and assembly.
| Private (home) use | Two years from the day you buy it |
|---|---|
| Commercial use | None in the manual that ships with the heater |
| Labor | Not covered |
| Not covered | Heating elements, salt spheres, transport damage, wear, misuse, faulty installation, water, fire, lightning, poor ventilation |
| To claim | Completed installation report, connection by a qualified electrician |
How a claim works
A claim needs the installation report from the manual, filled in by your installer. You file it with Saunum technical support at Bathing Brands, the US distributor, and Saunum then chooses whether to repair or replace the faulty part. Repairs outside Saunum's recommended partners, and stones or spheres it does not recommend, are not covered. The manual that ships with the heater gives no commercial term, so ask us before buying for a gym, spa or rental sauna; we make no promise of commercial cover. The Saunum warranty policy page sets out every condition.
Certification
The Air 5 is cULus Listed to UL 875 and CSA C22.2 No. 164, UL file E525245. UL's 2023 certificates of compliance for the US and Canada name it, along with the Air 7 and the discontinued Air 10.
Buyer questions
Saunum Air 5 questions, answered from the manual
How big a sauna room can the Saunum Air 5 heat?
Saunum rates it for 106 to 212 cubic feet under a 73 inch or higher ceiling. Multiply your three measurements, then by 1.5 for uninsulated log walls, and add 3 cubic feet per square foot of cold surface such as glass, tile or masonry, counting a glass door.
Can I run the Saunum Air 5 from a Harvia or HUUM control?
No. Saunum designed the Air to run only with its AirIQ control, which sets temperature and fan speed, and the heater is never wired straight to the mains. The AirIQ is sold separately, and it is listed as a required item in our buy box for this heater. Wi-Fi is optional: choose "Set up offline" at the Wi-Fi step (older panels say "Skip"), and the panel then runs the sauna without the app.
Which circuit does the Saunum Air 5 need?
It needs 240 volts, single phase, on a dedicated circuit carrying 4,950 watts at 20.63 amps, hardwired by a licensed electrician. Breaker and cable sizes are set by your electrician against Saunum's manual and the NEC. The circuit must not have a GFCI breaker.
Does a Saunum Air 5 sauna still need vents?
Yes. The manual requires a fresh air inlet low on the wall, at most 12 inches up, near or under the heater plus an exhaust opening 24 to 47 inches high, far from the heater, for six air changes an hour. The fan only stirs the room's air.
Is the fan on the Saunum Air 5 loud?
Saunum publishes no decibel figure for the Air 5. Its manual says there is always a certain noise when the fan is running, and suggests switching to a lower speed if it bothers you; an uneven or metallic sound means the fan needs servicing.
How long does the Saunum Air 5 take to heat up?
Expect 45 to 90 minutes from cold, by Saunum's figure, provided the room is properly insulated and the heater correctly sized for it. The room runs between 140 and 194 °F, and the manual has the fan switched off for the initial heat-up, to be turned on just before you go in.
What stone load does the Saunum Air 5 take?
About 110 pounds in the closed black steel basket and about 130 pounds in the open stainless steel one, four 33 pound boxes of rounded olivine diabase. Stones are not in the heater box; added in the buy box, they ship free by parcel, separately from the heater.
Will the Saunum Air 5 fit in a barrel sauna?
Only if the room meets its numbers: 73 inches of ceiling where it stands, 40 inches from basket to ceiling, and the side and front clearances. A barrel's roof curves down at the walls, so send us the inside height at the heater spot to check.
What warranty does the Saunum Air 5 have?
Saunum covers materials and assembly for two years when the Air 5 is in a private home sauna, with labor and the heating elements excluded. Claims must include the filled-in installation report and show that a qualified electrician connected the heater. The Air 5 manual that ships with the heater gives no commercial term, so ask us before buying for a gym, spa or rental.
Is the Saunum Air 5 UL listed?
Yes. It is cULus Listed to UL 875 and CSA C22.2 No. 164 under UL file E525245, and the 2023 UL certificates name the Air 5 by model. Your inspector can check the file number.
One last thing
