How does delivery work?
How does delivery work?
Ships from Wheeling, Illinois. Free to the contiguous 48 above our free shipping threshold. A small accessory can fall below it and then a flat charge applies, shown at checkout before you pay.
How it arrives. The DROP comes by ground parcel, with no appointment and nobody home. CLIFF, STEEL, HIVE and CORE come palletized by freight, including the wall mounted Mini models: the carrier calls to book a window, someone has to sign, and it is a curbside drop rather than inside.
Stone ships in its own boxes. A heater takes 3 to 16 boxes at 33 pounds each. Stone added from a HUUM heater's own page ships free with that heater; ordered on its own it is charged per box at checkout. The quantity is set by the heater, not the room.
When it ships. The estimate on each product page is the distributor's usual dispatch time for stocked items. Stock moves, so we confirm the current position when you order. Working to a deadline? Ask us first.
If it arrives damaged. Note it on the delivery paperwork, photograph the carton and the contents, and tell us the same day. Report damage within 48 hours of delivery, with photographs and before the heater is installed: that is our window, and because it is shorter than HUUM's 7 days it is the one that applies to the HUUM warranty too. Refuse a carton or pallet that is punctured, crushed or structurally damaged.
Where we ship. The contiguous 48 states. We do not ship HUUM to Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico.
Not included: the electrical work. A HUUM heater is hardwired by a licensed electrician, and the clearances and cable entry are set by the model, so book the electrician for after the heater arrives.
What does the warranty cover?
What does the warranty cover?
Private use. 3 years on electric heaters, wood stoves and controls, and 1 year on spare parts, running from your purchase date. Keep the receipt and your electrician's invoice.
Commercial use. 1 year on all of them. HUUM treats it as commercial if a business uses the product commercially, if a private owner uses it commercially, or if a private owner runs it more than 1,500 hours in any 12 months, so a gym, studio or rental is commercial from day one.
What is covered. Defects in materials and workmanship. HUUM decides whether to repair, replace, refund or, with your agreement, reduce the price, and it arranges and pays for any transport it needs. A replaced part does not restart the clock.
Excluded, the ones that matter most. Heating elements, all sensors, sauna stones, accessories, and a wood stove's door glass and ash grate. Also normal wear, damage from poor ventilation or constant damp, power surges and overheating, non-HUUM parts fitted without written approval, and a heater that was the wrong size for the room. Until it is installed it must be kept indoors, dry, ventilated and above freezing.
Two conditions decide most claims. The heater must be installed and connected by a licensed electrician, to HUUM's manual and your local codes, and HUUM can ask for proof. Damage found on delivery must be reported to us within 48 hours and claimed with photographs before the product is installed. Any other fault: report it within 30 days of finding it.
If the fault turns out not to be covered. HUUM's terms let it charge for the work of diagnosing it. We will tell you as soon as HUUM tells us.
Who handles it. HUUM OU in Estonia is the warrantor and we file the claim for you, so you deal with us rather than with Estonia. Call (888) 500-5675 with your order number, the model and its serial number and photographs.
What if I need to return it?
What if I need to return it?
30 days from purchase. New, uninstalled and resalable, in the original packaging with all parts. A heater that has been wired in, fired or loaded with stones counts as installed and cannot go back, and so does a control that has been wired in.
What it costs. Full credit for the product, less a repackaging fee of 20 to 50 dollars depending on the item. There is no percentage restocking fee on a standard return.
Who pays the freight. You do on a change of mind. We cover it when the cause is shipping damage or our error. Shipping you paid at checkout is not refunded on a change of mind return.
Damaged on arrival. A different and faster process. Note it on the delivery receipt before signing, photograph the carton and contents, and call us the same day. Report it within 48 hours of delivery, with photographs and before the product is installed.
Stones and spare parts. Stone is sold by weight and is not returnable once a box is opened. Heating elements, sensors and other spare parts cannot be returned once fitted.
Cancelling before it ships. No fee at all before we send the order to the distributor. After that an administrative fee of up to 5 percent may apply, and we waive it when we are not charged ourselves.
To start a return. Call (888) 500-5675. A Return Authorization number is required before anything ships back. Refunds go to the original payment method within 7 business days of the return being received and inspected.

HIVE Flow Mini
The HUUM HIVE Flow Mini is a wood burning sauna stove for rooms of 212 to 494 cubic feet
A HUUM stove built so most of the heat goes into the room instead of up the chimney.
It burns split firewood and needs no electricity and no control. What it does need is a chimney your building department will accept, 7 boxes of sauna stone and a floor it can legally stand on. All three are covered below, in that order, because they decide whether this stove suits your room before anything else does.
The room

Length by width by height, in feet. A room that leaks heat through uninsulated glass, tile or concrete behaves like a bigger one, so size up rather than down.

Why the HUUM HIVE Flow Mini and not a cheaper box stove
Three things you are paying for. The stone is held in an open basket rather than behind a steel skin, so the steam comes off rock you can see. The door is glazed, which in a small room means the fire is part of the sitting. And HUUM measures this stove at 75.1 per cent gross efficiency against 67 on its own HIVE Wood range, which is why a smaller kW figure covers a larger room.
If none of that matters to you, a welded box stove heats the same room for less money, and we sell those too. Say so on the phone and we will point you at one. How the HUUM HIVE Flow Mini is built
Where the heat goes
HUUM measures the HIVE Flow Mini at 75.1 per cent gross efficiency, which is its way of saying how much of what the firewood releases ends up in the room instead of the chimney. Average flue gas temperature at nominal output is 606 F. It is also why the kW figure on this stove is not comparable with the 13 and 17 kW on the HIVE Wood range: those are rated by heat released, this one by heat delivered, which is how a smaller number covers a larger room.
The glass
The door is glazed, so the fire is part of the room rather than something happening behind a plate. Two things come with that. A smoldering load sooots the glass quickly, so burn dry wood hot. And HUUM's manual is explicit that tempered door glass is not under warranty and that water must not be splashed onto hot glass.
Running it
How much firewood the HUUM HIVE Flow Mini burns, and what fits in it
HUUM prints the numbers rather than leaving the owner to guess, and on a wood stove they are the difference between a long life and a warped firebox.

US firewood is normally sold cut to 16 inches, which this stove takes, though HUUM recommends 12 inch splits. At the maximum rate it burns about 8 pounds an hour, so a heat up plus a two hour session is somewhere near 25 pounds of wood.
If the surface of the stove turns red it is overheating. HUUM's instruction is to close the air valve at the bottom of the stove at once. Keep the ash drawer shut while the stove is burning: an open or missing drawer is one of the ways these stoves are overfired, along with too much draught, wood that is too thin or too dry, and reloading early. Deformation from overheating is not a warranty matter.
Heating time depends on the insulation, the room size and the output of the stove, which is HUUM's own answer and the honest one. No maker in this category publishes a tested heat up time.

The part people underestimate
What chimney the HUUM HIVE Flow Mini needs, and why we do not sell you one
HUUM asks for a chimney rated T450 with a cross section of at least 16 square inches, connected to a 4.5 inch collar, and says only flue pipe your local fire and safety regulations accept may be used.
The flue can leave from the top or from the back. For a back connection the bolted chimney leg and the cover plate change places, and two ribs are cut to the chimney diameter and held with the metal fixing plates in the package.
In the United States that last line has a specific meaning. NFPA 211 and the residential code require a factory built chimney on a wood burning appliance to be listed to UL 103 and physically marked Type HT, and an unlisted metal chimney is not permitted in a one or two family dwelling at all. HUUM builds four stainless chimney sets and they carry European certification, not that listing, so we do not sell them with these stoves.
We also will not sell you an adapter and a length of listed pipe and call it a system. The join between a 4.5 inch European collar and 6 inch American pipe is made by an adapter that no chimney manufacturer lists, and no Class A maker builds one at that size. Specifying that joint for you is the one thing worse than specifying nothing.
What we do instead. Ask us and we will send you the chimney requirements for this stove in writing: the collar size, the temperature class, the minimum cross section, the clearance and termination rules your installer works to, and the questions to put to your building department. You hand that to a chimney professional, who sizes and installs a listed system for your building and stands behind it. That is how the only US listed sauna stove maker handles it too.

Permits and inspection
Is the HUUM HIVE Flow Mini UL listed?
No. It is certified to EN 15821, with a CPR certificate and German BImSchV stage 2, which are European standards.
There is no UL, ULC or CSA listing for any HUUM wood stove. HUUM's own US manual puts the decision with your local authority: Use only flue pipe approved by the local fire and safety regulations, and coordinate the installation with the local government and rescue board in advance.
Two things follow from that, and you want both answered before you order rather than at inspection. NFPA 211 gives an unlisted solid fuel room heater a standard clearance of 36 inches above, in front, behind and at the sides, and allows a manufacturer's smaller distances only for an appliance that is listed. And the chimney itself has to be a listed Class A system marked Type HT.
So call your building department and ask two questions. Does a solid fuel sauna stove need a permit here, and will they inspect it against the chimney and HUUM's published clearances, or do they require a listed appliance. Where a listing is required, this stove will not pass.

These are HUUM's distances to combustible material, from the manual's own table. Read them with the permits section above: a US authority may hold an unlisted stove to NFPA 211's 36 inches instead.

A single non-combustible screen halves the distance to the walls and a double screen takes it down by up to three quarters. The ceiling is different: a single screen reduces that distance by 25 per cent at most, and a double screen is never used at the ceiling. Leave at least 1 3/16 inches of air behind a screen and at least 2 inches between the screen and the stove, and measure the distance to the flammable material rather than to the screen.
The stove stands on non-combustible flooring. Over a combustible floor a thermal plate or another non-combustible layer is mandatory, with at least 1 3/16 inches of ventilation gap under it, and the plate in front of the door has its near edge turned up so embers cannot roll underneath.
In a niche of non-combustible material, leave at least 4 inches around the stove for air to move. Check the local rules before you reduce anything.
No electrical equipment or wiring belongs inside the safety area, and the connection to the chimney is a job for a certified installer. Both are HUUM's instructions, not ours.
Stone
The HUUM HIVE Flow Mini takes 7 boxes of sauna stone
231 pounds of it, and it is not in the crate. The manual prints a stone size of 2 to 6 inches and recommends HUUM's own stone. Wash it before laying and keep it off the body of the stove.
The stone our distributor specifies for this stove is the 2 to 4 inch box, and it is the stone we sell: HUUM sauna stones, ordered by the box with the stove.
HUUM asks for a check once a year, and expects a partial or full replacement about every two years. Stone breaks down with heat and water, and a bed that has collapsed into gravel chokes the airflow the fire depends on.
Delivery
HUUM HIVE Flow Mini freight delivery and what ships separately
About 119 pounds as supplied, on a pallet by freight. Two people move it, and it is far easier to carry in before the stone goes on.
In the crate: the stove, the grate, the ash grate and ash drawer, two cleaning hatches, two fixing plates, a glove, splints and the manual.

Burn the stove once outdoors before it goes in the room if you can. The paint cures on the first firing and smells while it does.

HUUM HIVE Flow Mini questions buyers ask before ordering
Is the HUUM HIVE Flow Mini UL listed?
No. It carries European certification only, EN 15821 plus BImSchV stage 2, and there is no UL, ULC or CSA listing for any HUUM wood stove. Ask your building department how they inspect a solid fuel sauna stove before you order: NFPA 211 gives an unlisted stove a standard 36 inch clearance on every side, and a listed appliance is what allows a manufacturer's smaller distances to be used instead.
Does it come with a chimney?
No, and we do not sell one with it. The collar is 4.5 inches and HUUM asks for T450, but in a US dwelling the chimney itself has to be listed to UL 103 and marked Type HT, which HUUM's own sets are not. Ask us and we will send the requirements in writing for your chimney professional to work from.
Does it come with stone?
No. It takes 7 boxes, 231 pounds, ordered separately and ideally on the same order so it arrives together.
What firewood fits?
Logs up to 12 inches, with 12 inch splits recommended. US cordwood is normally cut to 16 inches, which this stove takes.
Does it need electricity?
No. There is nothing to wire and no control to buy.
How big a room will it heat?
HUUM rates it for 212 to 494 cubic feet. Measure length by width by height in feet, and treat uninsulated glass, tile or concrete as though the room were larger.
How far from the wall does it have to stand?
HUUM's own table gives 6 inches to combustible material and 40 inches above the stove. A non-combustible screen reduces the wall distances, by half with a single screen and by up to three quarters with a double one. Your local authority decides whether those distances may be used at all on a stove that is not listed.
Is there a version loaded from outside the sauna?
Yes. The HIVE Flow Mini LS is the same stove with the firebox extended through the wall, so wood goes in from the next room. See the HIVE Flow Mini LS.
Can it go on a wooden floor?
Only over a thermal plate or another non-combustible layer, with a ventilation gap under it, and a plate in front of the door with its near edge turned up so embers cannot roll underneath.
Should I buy this or an electric heater?
An electric heater comes up to temperature on a timer. This stove needs lighting, tending and a fire every time, and a chimney that satisfies your inspector. People who want that hour choose wood. If you do not, our electric sauna heaters start from the same sizing question.
