Shipping & Delivery

Every Harvia heater and stove ships free to the contiguous 48. What changes across the range is not the cost to you but how it arrives: electric heaters come by parcel and need nobody home, while wood-burning stoves come palletized by freight, by appointment, to the curb. Call (888) 500-5675 if you want the delivery method for your exact model confirmed before you order.

Electric heaters ship by parcel. Wall-mounted and pillar heaters run roughly 29 to 55 pounds, so they travel as insured ground parcel. No delivery appointment, no liftgate, no waiting in. These are the models that ship free to the lower 48.

Wood-burning stoves ship by freight. A wood stove can weigh several hundred pounds before you add stone, so it moves palletized on an LTL carrier. Freight is included to the contiguous 48. What a pallet changes is the handling: a delivery appointment, a signature, and curbside drop rather than a carrier leaving it at the door.

Sauna stones ship separately and they are heavy. A heater takes anywhere from one box to thirteen at roughly 44 pounds a box. That weight is why stones are quoted with your order rather than folded into a headline price.

Scheduling your delivery. Parcel shipments need nobody home. For freight, the carrier calls to arrange an appointment window and someone must be there to sign. Curbside is the standard: the driver will not bring a pallet inside or up steps, so arrange help for a heavy stove.

Where we ship. The contiguous 48 states. Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Canada are quoted case by case, so contact us before ordering.

Inspect before you sign. Check the carton or pallet for damage while the driver is still there, and note any damage on the delivery receipt at the time of signing. Then contact us the same day. A clean signature with no damage noted makes a freight claim much harder to win, and this one habit is what decides most claims.

Lead times. Harvia stock for this market moves through a US distributor, so most orders ship promptly. Some part numbers are supplied from Finland and take longer. We confirm the position for your specific model when you order rather than publishing an average that would be wrong for half the range.

Questions before you order? Ten minutes on the phone confirming freight, lead time and what else has to be on the same pallet is cheaper than a surprise after you have paid.

Warranty

Harvia covers its sauna heaters and wood-burning stoves against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. Coverage runs from your date of purchase, so keep your receipt. Harvia US Inc. is the warrantor for North America.

Coverage periods. Residential family use: 2 years on electric heaters, controls and steam generators including the heating elements, and 2 years on wood-burning stoves. Commercial use: 2 years on electric heaters, controls and electronics but 6 months on heating elements, and 6 months on wood-burning stoves.

Register within 30 days and Harvia adds a third year. Registration is free and needs the model, serial number and purchase date. We send you the link and your serial number with your order, so you do not have to go looking for it. Electric heaters in residential use only. Almost no retailer mentions it, and it is worth a full extra year.

What is covered. Defects in manufacture and materials. Harvia will repair the product or supply replacement parts through the importer. Replacing a part does not extend the original period.

What is not. Normal wear, improper installation, poor maintenance, failure to follow the instructions, alterations and improper use. Sauna stones are a consumable and are not covered, and stones Harvia does not specify for your model can void cover.

Professional installation is a condition. Harvia requires that the unit is installed and wired by a licensed electrician and that proof of professional installation can be presented with a claim. Keep your installer's invoice with your receipt. A heater wired by the owner is outside the warranty.

Transport damage has a seven day limit. Harvia requires that you check the product for transport or storage damage on receipt, and that any damage found is reported to the seller or the carrier immediately and no later than seven days after delivery. We ask you to call us the same day because a claim is far easier to win with the damage noted on the delivery receipt, but seven days is the outside limit in Harvia’s own terms.

Changing how you use it ends the cover. Harvia states that the warranty period expires immediately if the primary intended use changes during the period, in either direction. Moving a heater from a family sauna into a gym, a rental or any other commercial setting ends the residential cover rather than converting it. Tell us before you order if the room will be used commercially, so we can quote it on the right terms from the start.

A callout for a fault that is not covered can be charged. If the defect turns out to fall outside the warranty, Harvia is entitled to charge for the work of finding it, including labour, travel and shipping at actual cost. Call us first and we will work through the symptoms with you before anything is booked, which is usually enough to tell whether it is a warranty fault, an installation issue or a stone problem.

How to make a claim. Call (888) 500-5675 or email sales@recoveryroomdirect.com with your order number, model and serial number, and a description of the fault. Photographs help. We open the claim with Harvia US on your behalf.

Return Policy

If a Harvia heater or stove is not right, you have 30 days from the date of purchase to return it. All return communication is handled by our team at Recovery Room Direct. You do not need to contact the manufacturer or the distributor yourself.

Condition required. The unit must be new, uninstalled and in resalable condition with its original packaging and all included parts. A heater that has been wired in, fired, or loaded with stones counts as installed and cannot be returned.

How to start a return. Call (888) 500-5675 or email sales@recoveryroomdirect.com with your order number. A Return Authorization number is required before anything goes back, and product returned without one can be refused. We will give you the RA number and the return address.

What a return costs. You get full credit for the product, less a repackaging fee that typically runs about 20 to 50 dollars depending on the item. There is no percentage restocking fee on a standard customer return, which is better than most of what we carry, where 15 to 20 percent is normal.

Who pays the return freight. You do on a change of mind. We do, and the distributor does, when the cause is shipping damage or an error on our side. Nothing is deducted for freight in those cases.

Damaged on arrival is a different process, and it is time sensitive. Note the damage on the delivery receipt before you sign, photograph the carton and the contents, and call us the same day. Concealed damage found after signing is much harder to claim, so open the box on delivery day even if you are not installing for weeks.

Sauna stones. Stone is sold by weight and is not returnable once a box is opened. Order the quantity your model takes and ask us if you are unsure, because the amount is set by the heater rather than by the room.

Control units and accessories. Same 30 day window and the same condition requirement. A control unit that has been wired in cannot be returned.

Harvia Virta Pro HL160E 16kW electric sauna heater

Harvia Virta Pro Series

Harvia Virta Pro HL160E 16kW Electric Sauna Heater

The Virta Pro is Harvia's commercial-scale Virta. At 16 kW it carries 200 lbs of stone and heats rooms the standard range cannot reach. It is also a different electrical job: 2 or 4 separate circuits, and a ceiling at least 82.7 inches high.

At 16kW Harvia rates it for rooms up to 918 cubic feet, or 51 to 133 square feet of floor at a minimum ceiling height of 82.7 inches. Most of the Pro range needs two boxes rather than one: a Harvia CX45 control unit and an LTY45-U1-U3 power extension unit, both bought separately. Budget for both when you price the job.

Harvia Virta Pro HL160E Features

What you are buying at 16kW

200 lbs of stone

Stone capacity is what separates two heaters of the same output. More stone holds more heat, which means softer steam, a room that recovers faster between ladles, and less swing on the thermostat. Harvia rates this cabinet at 200 lbs of angular split-face stone between 2 and 4 inches.

2 or 4 separate circuits, not one

Harvia splits the 16 kW load deliberately. The Pro draws 66.7 A in total, and that is divided across 2 or 4 separate supply circuits rather than run on a single feed. It is the same principle the National Electrical Code applies to fixed electric heating above 48 amps. Your electrician needs to know this before quoting, because it changes the panel work, not just the wire size.

Steel body, ETL Listed

Steel construction rated IPX4 against splashing, floor mounted, with a maximum thermostat setting of 194°F. Harvia publishes an ETL listing for this heater covering the United States and Canada. ETL is the mark of Intertek, an OSHA-accredited Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory. Installation follows the National Electrical Code and your local code.

Sizing the HL160E

Is 16kW the right output for your room?

Harvia rates this heater up to918 cubic feet

Measure length × width × height in feet. Harvia sets a higher floor for the Pro range than for the standard Virta: the room has to be at least 82.7 inches (2100 mm) tall. A standard seven foot ceiling is not enough. Check that before anything else.

Cold surfaces change the answer, and a glass door counts. Harvia's manuals treat brick, glass, tile and concrete as non-insulated surface and say to add 1.2 cubic meters of volume for every square meter of it, which works out near 3.9 cubic feet for every square foot. Harvia's own worked examples: a 10 cubic meter room with a glass door behaves like a 12 cubic meter room, and the same room with a 2 by 2 meter brick wall behaves like 15. If you are close to the limit, size up rather than down.

Log walls without insulation heat slowly. Harvia advises multiplying the room volume by 1.5 before choosing output in that case.

Electrical requirements

66.7 amps at 240 volts, across 2 or 4 separate circuits

This is the part that surprises people, so settle it before you price the electrical work. Harvia's US manual gives the HL160E a total rated amperage of 66.7 A at 240 volts single phase, and it is not run on one feed. You choose between two separate circuits at 33.3 A each, using four 8 AWG conductors, or four separate circuits at 22.3 A each, using eight 12 AWG conductors.

Splitting the load is normal at this size rather than a quirk of the Pro. The National Electrical Code requires fixed electric heating above 48 amps to be subdivided, and 66.7 A is well past that. It does mean more panel capacity and more homeruns than a single-circuit heater, so a quote written against a standard Virta will not cover this job.

Most heaters in this range also need a Harvia control unit and an LTY45-U1-U3 power extension unit, and both are bought separately. The control panel and power unit must be installed somewhere dry, outside the sauna room, away from a spa, pool or shower, and never outdoors. Harvia is explicit that no receptacle may be installed inside the sauna room at all.

The heater is hardwired. The US manual calls for copper wire rated to 194°F (90°C) within the sauna walls, run in seal tight conduit between the heater and the wall, and it is explicit that pigtails and plugs are not allowed in the sauna room.

Installation must be carried out by a licensed electrician. Harvia's warranty terms require that proof of professional installation is presented, so keep the invoice.

What's in the box

Included with your Virta Pro HL160E

  • Virta Pro HL160E sauna heater
  • Temperature sensor
  • Installation and operation manual
  • Heater only. A Harvia CX45 control unit is required and sold separately.
  • Harvia LTY45-U1-U3 power extension unit is required on most of this range and is sold separately
  • Harvia manufacturer warranty, 2 years residential and 3 years when registered within 30 days, subject to professional installation

Sauna stones are required and are not included. Harvia rates the HL160E to hold up to 200 lbs of stone. Order about 5 boxes at 44 lbs a box, which over-supplies a little on purpose: stone is natural and varies in shape, so you want enough to choose from and a few spares as they break down. Harvia specifies angular split-face stone 2 to 4 inches across for this range. Harvia's manual for this heater and the distributor's stone chart currently disagree on which Harvia stone code suits it, so we confirm the exact code with your order rather than have you guess. It matters, because unsuitable stone packs too tightly, restricts airflow through the heater and can void the warranty. Call (888) 500-5675 and we will add stones to your order.

Compare the Virta range

The HL160E against the rest of the Virta range

Three families share the Virta name. The standard Virta is a dry stone heater. The Virta Combi adds a 2.1 kW steamer and a water reservoir in the same cabinet. The Virta Pro is the commercial tier and the only one that needs separate supply circuits; the single-phase Combi runs on one circuit split into two groups, because the steamer is fed alongside the heater elements. Room volumes are Harvia's published maximums.

Harvia Virta Pro HL160E FAQ

Questions buyers ask about the HL160E

What size sauna room does the Harvia Virta Pro HL160E heat?

Harvia rates the HL160E for rooms up to 918 cubic feet, or 51 to 133 square feet of floor at a minimum ceiling height of 82.7 inches. Multiply your room length, width and height in feet to get the volume. Non-insulated surface counts, and so does a glass door: Harvia adds 1.2 cubic meters of volume for every square meter of brick, glass, tile or concrete, which is near 3.9 cubic feet for every square foot. Add that before you compare against the range.

Is the HL160E suitable for a home sauna?

It can be, but check three things first. The ceiling has to be at least 82.7 inches, which rules out a standard seven foot room. The panel has to carry 66.7 A across 2 or 4 separate circuits. And the room needs to be at least 51 square feet, because a heater this size in a small room will cycle badly. Most homes that fit a Pro are building the sauna around it rather than retrofitting. Call us on (888) 500-5675 with your dimensions and panel details and we will tell you honestly whether it fits.

Does the HL160E need a separate control unit?

Yes. The HL160E runs from a Harvia CX45 control unit mounted outside the hot room, bought separately. Most of the Pro range also needs an LTY45-U1-U3 power extension unit alongside it, so budget for two boxes rather than one. Both must be installed somewhere dry, outside the sauna room, away from a spa, pool or shower, and never outdoors.

How many circuits does the HL160E require?

Two or four, not one. Harvia's US manual gives the HL160E a total rated amperage of 66.7 A at 240 volts single phase, divided across 2 or 4 separate supply circuits. On two circuits that is 33.3 A each with 8 AWG conductors; on four it is 22.3 A each with 12 AWG. Subdividing is standard practice at this size: the National Electrical Code requires fixed electric heating above 48 amps to be split. Make sure your electrician quotes the panel work, not just the wire.

Are sauna stones included with the Virta Pro HL160E?

No. Stones are required for operation and are sold separately. Harvia rates the HL160E to hold up to 200 lbs of stone, and the practical order is about 5 boxes at 44 lbs a box, which over-supplies a little on purpose: stone is natural and varies in shape, so you want enough to choose from and a few spares as they break down. Harvia's manual for this heater and the distributor's stone chart currently disagree on which Harvia stone code suits it, so we confirm the exact code with your order rather than have you guess. Harvia specifies angular split-face stone 2 to 4 inches across for this range. Stone that is too small, too flat or the wrong shape packs tightly and restricts the airflow the heater depends on, and Harvia's terms exclude damage caused by stone it does not recommend.

Can I install the Harvia Virta Pro HL160E myself?

No. The HL160E is hardwired and must be installed by a licensed electrician to the National Electrical Code and local requirements. Harvia's published warranty terms require that proof of professional installation is presented, so keep the invoice. The US manual specifies copper wire rated to 194 degrees Fahrenheit within the sauna walls, run in seal tight conduit, and states that pigtails and plugs are not allowed in the sauna room.

What warranty comes with this heater?

Harvia covers this heater for 2 years in residential family use, including the heating elements, under the Limited Warranty for Harvia Products dated 18 November 2025. Register the heater with Harvia within 30 days of purchase and Harvia adds a third year, for 3 years in total. Registration is free and takes a couple of minutes. We send you the link and your serial number with your order, so you do not have to go looking for it. In commercial or other non-consumer use the period is 2 years on the heater, controls and electronics, and 6 months on the heating elements. Cover runs from your date of purchase, so keep your receipt. Harvia also requires that the unit is installed and wired by a licensed electrician and that you can show proof of professional installation, so keep your installer's paperwork with it. Transport or storage damage is separate and must be reported no later than seven days after delivery. Harvia US Inc. is the warrantor and handles claims directly, and we open the claim on your behalf. Full terms are on our Harvia warranty policy page.

Is the Virta Pro HL160E listed for use in the United States?

Harvia publishes an ETL listing for this heater covering the United States and Canada. ETL is the mark of Intertek, an OSHA-accredited Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory. Installation follows the National Electrical Code and your local code.
