How does delivery work?
How does delivery work?
The EASYTON transpalpebral tonometer is a prescription device, so it ships only to a licensed practice, and only after we have verified the practitioner's license. It ships free to practice addresses in the contiguous 48 U.S. states, except California.
After you order. We email you for the licensed practitioner's name, license number, issuing state and the practice address. Once the license is verified with the state licensing board, the order goes to Almagia International, which ships it from its US distribution center in Brooklyn, NY, within 1 to 2 business days. Standard delivery takes 4 to 7 business days from the ship date, depending on location, and a tracking number is emailed when the order leaves the warehouse. Sending the license details before you order means nothing waits on the check.
If we cannot verify a license. We cancel the order and refund it in full. Nothing ships until the check is complete.
Packaging and carrier. The EASYTON ships as a standard insured parcel by ground carrier. No appointment or freight delivery is needed.
If your order arrives damaged. Before opening, photograph the outside of the shipping box. Then open it carefully and photograph any damage to the device or its contents. Email the photos to sales@recoveryroomdirect.com within 48 hours of delivery. We will file the carrier claim and arrange a replacement or a full refund, whichever you prefer. Damage reported more than 48 hours after delivery cannot be guaranteed.
Where it does not ship. California, Alaska, Hawaii and addresses outside the United States. California requires out-of-state sellers of devices carrying the federal prescription statement to hold a state license, so we do not take California orders for the EASYTON.

What does the warranty cover?

How long. Almagia devices manufactured by the ELAMED factory carry a limited 2 year warranty from the purchase date.
What is covered. Device replacement for malfunctions caused by a manufacturing defect, on devices supplied new through Recovery Room Direct as an authorized dealer.
What is not. Misuse or accidental damage, water damage, damage in the carrier's possession, claimed through carrier insurance instead, and use outside the parameters in the instruction manual.
Do not open the device. A device found opened or unscrewed has its warranty voided and is returned to you at your expense. Call us before taking it apart.
Sending it in. Returns for service must ship insured; uninsured packages may be refused.

If the EASYTON isn't the right fit for your practice, you have 14 days from the date of delivery to return it. All return and refund communication is handled by our team at Recovery Room Direct, so you do not need to contact Almagia International yourself.
How to start a return. Call us at (888) 500-5675 or email sales@recoveryroomdirect.com with your order number. We will issue a Return Authorization (RA) number and send return instructions. Do not ship the tonometer back until you have your RA number; packages received without one will be refused.
Condition required. The tonometer must come back unused and in like-new condition, in its original packaging with the case, batteries, manual and everything else that came in the box. A tonometer that has been used on a patient, or is missing components, is not eligible for return.
What a return costs. A 15% restocking fee may be deducted from your refund. Return shipping is the buyer's responsibility, and we recommend a trackable, insured carrier. Refunds go to your original payment method within 5 to 7 business days of receiving and inspecting the return.
If we cannot verify the license. The EASYTON is a prescription device and cannot ship until we have verified the practitioner's license with the state board. If we cannot verify it, we cancel the order and refund you in full, with no fee, because the order is not sent to Almagia until the license checks out. You can cancel on the same terms before then by emailing sales@recoveryroomdirect.com.
License note. We keep the license details you send us only to document that the sale was properly authorized. We do not use them for marketing and we do not share them.
Warranty claims. A manufacturing defect found after the return window is handled under the manufacturer's warranty, which ELAMED's manual sets at 24 months from the date of sale. Contact us and we coordinate the claim with Almagia International on your behalf.

The ELAMED EASYTON transpalpebral tonometer
The EASYTON is a handheld digital tonometer that measures intraocular pressure through the patient's closed upper eyelid, over the sclera rather than on the cornea, with no anesthetic drops.
ELAMED makes it in Russia, and Almagia International in Brooklyn, New York, is its US agent. It is a prescription device intended for use at healthcare facilities, so we sell it only to licensed practitioners and their practices. You will also see it written as Easytone; the manufacturer spells it EASYTON.

We sell the EASYTON to licensed physicians and optometrists for use in their own practice, and to clinics buying it for them. Checkout works like any other order on our site, and nothing ships until the license is confirmed.
How the check works
Place the order as usual; payment is taken at checkout. We then email you for the name of the licensed practitioner, the license number, the issuing state and the practice address it ships to. Reply to that email, or send the details before you order, and we look the license up with the state licensing board. Once it checks out, the order goes to Almagia and ships to the practice.
If we cannot verify a license, we cancel the order and refund it in full. The delivery date runs from the moment the check is complete, so sending the details early avoids any wait.

How it works
How the EASYTON measures eye pressure through the eyelid
The rod rests on the closed upper eyelid, over the white of the eye. Light pressure on the pen starts the measurement.
As the rod sinks slightly into the housing, the pen sets it vibrating. The rod and the eye then act as one elastic system, and the vibration frequency depends on the pressure inside the eye: the higher the pressure, the higher the frequency. The EASYTON reads that frequency, converts it to millimeters of mercury and shows the result on its display.
What the patient feels
FDA's 510(k) summary describes the rod as weighing about 10 g and vibrating at about 150 Hz, with an amplitude of hundredths of a millimeter. The patient feels a light vibration on the eyelid. No anesthetic is used, and a reading takes 2 seconds at most.
Reading the display
The LCD shows the battery level, a moving arrow when the pen is ready, and the reading in mmHg. A square frame around the number means the pen, the eyelid or the eye moved, so take the reading again. Separate symbols show a pressure below 7 or above 50 mmHg. An exclamation mark with a continuous beep means the pen is not in working condition or the rod is pressing too hard on the eyelid, which can be painful for the patient.
The EASYTON holds only the last reading, until it is switched off. It has no further memory and no connection to a computer or printer, so readings go into the patient's chart the usual way.
In the practice
Using the EASYTON with patients
Before each measurement you disinfect the rod and buffer ring, switch the pen on and check it on the tester built into its case. Then seat the patient and measure.
Positioning the patient
Seat the patient with the head tilted back close to horizontal and the gaze fixed on a point such as their own hand. Stand at the patient's side, slightly behind, rest the heel of your hand on the forehead and hold the pen upright, within 15 degrees of vertical. Line the upper eyelid edge up with the upper edge of the cornea, place the rod 2 to 3 mm from the lid edge and lower the pen smoothly by 2 to 3 mm, keeping the buffer ring clear of the eyelid. A beep 1 to 2 seconds later means the reading is on the display; if there is no beep, or it comes after more than 3 seconds, measure again. Do not let the eyelid slip onto the cornea. The operating manual illustrates every step.
The tester built into the case
The white case doubles as a tester. Lower the pen into the ring in the case and it takes a reading from the tester, which should fall within 2 mmHg of the reference value recorded on the specifications page of that unit's manual when it was accepted at the factory.
Check it at least once a week, after long idle periods, after a drop, after a battery change and whenever you doubt a reading, and as part of setting up for each measurement session. A reading outside that tolerance means the pen goes to the manufacturer's representative for repair; there are no user repairs.
Cleaning between patients
The buffer ring and the rod are the parts that meet the eyelid. They are reusable, and you disinfect them before and after every patient with the pen switched off: the US manual specifies immersion in Rapicide PA, then a rinse in sterile water, and gives the timings and immersion depth. Wipe the housing as needed and keep liquid out of the pen.
Care and storage
Inspect the housing and rod for damage at least once a day, and never use a damaged unit. Carry the pen in its case with the protective cap on, and keep it away from heat, sudden temperature changes and moisture. If liquid gets inside, let it dry at room temperature for at least 4 hours and check it on the tester before using it again. It operates between 50 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit (10 to 35 °C) at up to 80 percent relative humidity. After shipping or storage below 50 °F, leave it at room temperature for at least 4 hours before use, and take the batteries out if it will sit unused for months.

Precaution: "The Tonometer should not be used on eyes with biomechanical properties altered by prior surgery or disease."
Contraindications listed in the manual:
- Pathological conditions of the upper eyelid, including inflammation, scars and eyelid deformities.
- Evident scleral or conjunctival pathology in the area where the rod acts.
- Any condition that keeps the patient from taking and holding a sitting position, such as a severe general condition, injuries to the pelvis or spine, marked loss of muscle strength or tone, or a recovery period that restricts body position.
Do not use a pen whose housing or rod shows any mechanical damage, and do not use it in a shower or bathroom.

The EASYTON runs on two standard AAA cells, and the display shows how much charge is left. ELAMED does not publish a figure for how long a set lasts. The mean service life is no less than 5 years.

Is the EASYTON tonometer FDA-cleared?
Yes. FDA cleared the EASYTON under 510(k) K190382 on December 6, 2019, as a Class II tonometer under 21 CFR 886.1930. The cleared indication is the measurement of intraocular pressure in human eyes. A 510(k) is a clearance, not an approval.

The Diaton transpalpebral tonometer (K060780) is the predicate device named in FDA's EASYTON 510(k) summary. Both measure through the eyelid. The summary describes the difference as the measuring method: the Diaton uses a freely falling rod with a very brief contact, while the EASYTON keeps the rod in contact for about a second and combines a static and a vibrating measurement.
How often does the EASYTON need calibration checks?
The EASYTON case has a tester built in. Check the pen on it at least once a week, after long idle periods, after a drop, after changing batteries and whenever a reading is in doubt, as well as when setting up for each measurement session.
