How does delivery work?

Free shipping to the contiguous 48. On every SunRay sauna, by freight from Richmond, Virginia. The estimate on each product page is in business days.

Freight to the curb. A kit of panels or barrel staves, in cartons on a pallet. The freight company calls to book a window, someone signs, and residential deliveries come on a lift gate truck. Plan for two or more people.

Hard to reach addresses. If a truck cannot reach you, a smaller vehicle may cost extra, and we tell you before the delivery is booked.

When it ships. In-stock saunas usually leave SunRay's warehouse within 1 to 2 business days of SunRay receiving the order, and you get a tracking email when it leaves.

If it arrives damaged. Note it on the delivery receipt before signing and photograph it. Refuse a punctured or crushed pallet and call us while the driver is there; for minor damage, call before the driver leaves. Report anything found after unpacking within 48 hours.

Where we ship. The contiguous 48 states. We do not ship SunRay to Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico.

Not included: the electrical work and the assembly. A licensed electrician hardwires the Harvia heater on a traditional sauna to 240 V. Professional setup and assembly is available on the indoor saunas, and by quote on the others.

What does the warranty cover?

Structure: 10 years. The wooden panels, floor, ceiling and glass, from the original date of purchase, for the parts needed to repair a defect. If a structural defect cannot be fixed with a part, SunRay may send a replacement sauna; assembling it is then your cost.

Parts and electronics: 1 year. Every other part, including the heater and the electrical components. Parts replacement only: labor for fitting a part is not covered.

Not covered. Alteration, neglect, misuse, freight damage caused by the carrier, accidents and acts of God. Surface cracks and minor blemishes in the wood are natural, not defects. Report delivery damage within 48 hours, before assembly.

Two conditions decide most claims. Residential use only, because a commercial setting voids the warranty. And installed, run and maintained to the instructions: indoor saunas stay indoors, and an outdoor sauna without a weather cover needs its exterior resealed every year.

Who is covered. The original customer at the original delivery address. The warranty cannot be transferred.

Ask before a repair. Get SunRay's written consent before any repair you expect to be reimbursed. SunRay decides the cause of a fault and whether to repair or replace.

Who handles it. We are a factory-authorized SunRay dealer and file the claim for you. Call us with your order number, the model and photographs.

What if I need to return it?

20 days from the ship date. New, unassembled and resalable; the ship date is in your tracking email. We handle the return, so you do not contact SunRay.

Unassembled means returnable. In its original packaging and crate with the manuals and accessories. A sauna that has been assembled, wired in or heated cannot go back.

What a return costs. A restocking fee of 20% of the purchase price may apply on a change-of-mind return. There is none on a documented freight damage claim.

Who pays the return freight. You do on a change of mind. We cover it when the cause is shipping damage or our error.

Original shipping. We never deduct the original shipping from your refund.

Damaged on arrival. A different and faster process. Note it before signing and photograph it. Refuse a punctured or crushed pallet and call us while the driver is there. Report anything found after unpacking within 48 hours.

Cancelling before it ships. No fee before we place the order with SunRay. After that an administrative fee of up to 5% may apply, and we waive it whenever we are not charged. If we miss our own ship date, you cancel with no fee.

To start a return. Call us for a Return Authorization number before anything ships back. Refunds go to the original payment method within 7 business days of the return being received and inspected.

The short answer

The SunRay Solace 200SH is a 2 person western red cedar barrel sauna for a small patio

The Solace is the shortest of SunRay's barrels: 72 inches across and only 49 inches from the glass door to the back wall. Inside, two people sit with a 6 kW Harvia electric heater and its stones, under a dome light, in solid western red cedar staves held by metal bands.

It suits a couple with a corner of patio or deck, or a dry spot indoors, since SunRay lists its barrels for indoor or outdoor use. It belongs to our range of barrel saunas.

Who it fits

Two people

69 by 39 inches inside, under a curved cedar ceiling 69 inches high.

Where it fits

Fits a small patio

About 4 by 6 feet, small enough for a modest patio, a deck corner or a pad in the yard.

The heat

Steam on demand

Hot stones and a ladle of water, up to 170 F, SunRay's stated maximum.

Watch

Watch the SunRay Solace in SunRay's barrel sauna film

One minute of SunRay's own footage of its barrel series, shot on a finished barrel in a warehouse.

SunRay made one film for the Solace, the Aurora and the Galley, and notes that the size changes from model to model; the barrel on screen is one of the series, not necessarily the Solace. The film circles the outside first: the dark shingled roof, the metal bands, the cradles under the barrel, and the front wall with its full glass door between two small windows. Then it steps inside to the benches along each side, the heater in its wooden frame against the back wall, the dome light, and the round thermo-hygrometer.

What carries over to the Solace is the construction, the finish and the heater. For its length and seating, use the measurements on this page.

Reading the shape

A barrel's width and height are close because the cross-section is round: 69 inches inside both ways on the Solace, with the cradles adding a few inches underneath. What changes between SunRay's barrels is the length front to back. At 49 inches the Solace is the compact one, with 39 inches of floor inside between the door and the back wall.

The foundation is part of the fit

SunRay's barrel manual asks for a sturdy, level surface such as a concrete pad, a wood deck or patio pavers, and says never to set the sauna directly on the ground. Where the base can be damp, add a moisture barrier under the floor to keep the barrel high and dry. Size the pad to at least 72 by 49 inches.

The heat

The SunRay Solace heater: 6 kW of Harvia heat and a stone basket

A 6 kW Harvia electric heater stands against the back wall in a wooden stove frame, with its sauna stones included.

Dry heat or steam

Run it dry, or ladle water from the wooden bucket onto the hot stones for steam. SunRay calls it a wet or dry sauna, and the bucket, ladle and thermo-hygrometer come with it, so you can watch the humidity climb.

Warm-up and temperature

SunRay's barrel manual allows about 30 minutes for the sauna to heat up, and SunRay states a maximum of 170 F. Once the thermostat's setting is reached, the heater switches on and off to hold it. The manual also recommends that a session runs no longer than 30 minutes.

Starting it in advance

SunRay lists a built-in delay timer that lets you set the heater to start up to eight hours ahead. For heaters sold on their own, see our electric sauna heaters.

Construction

How the SunRay Solace cedar barrel sauna is built

Solid western red cedar, cut thick, joined stave to stave and banded in metal.

Staves, joints and bands

SunRay builds the barrel from western red cedar lumber 1 3/8 inches thick, joined edge to edge with what it calls ball-and-socket construction. Metal bands close around the outside and tighten with a latch bolt, and the hardware is stainless steel.

Roof and base

Shingle tiles screw onto the top of the barrel as its roof. Underneath, solid support cradles hold it off the pad, and a flat floor kit gives you a level surface to stand on inside, not the curve of the staves.

Front and light

The front wall has a tempered glass door between two small windows. A dome light mounts on the back wall, and its wire runs around the edge of the barrel in clips to the heater.

Looking after the outside

SunRay's warranty makes one ownership task a condition: an outdoor sauna without a weather cover has its exterior resealed every year to keep the wood from deteriorating. Put it on the calendar when you place the order.

Before you order

SunRay Solace: six things to have ready before delivery

A barrel is quick to place once these are done, and awkward to place before.

  • A solid, level baseConcrete pad, wood deck or pavers, at least 72 by 49 inches. Never bare ground, and a moisture barrier where it can be damp
  • A 240 V circuit to the spotDedicated, and hard-wired by a licensed electrician who follows the heater manual and the National Electrical Code. Outdoors that means a run from the house
  • Two or three adultsSunRay's manual says assembly takes at least two to three
  • A clear path for the partsThe barrel arrives at the curb as staves and panels. Plan how they reach the backyard
  • A yearly resealIf the barrel will stand outside without a cover, SunRay's warranty needs the exterior resealed every year
  • Permit and setbackFor a backyard spot, ask your building department, and your HOA if you have one, whether the barrel needs a permit and how far from the lot line it has to stand
Indoors works too. SunRay lists its barrels for indoor or outdoor use. Inside a building, the same rules hold: a solid level floor, a dedicated 240 V circuit and room for the 76 inch height.

Running cost

SunRay Solace electricity cost per session

Worked from the 6 kW heater and 18.34 cents per kilowatt hour, the US residential average in the EIA Electric Power Monthly for June 2026. Put your own rate in its place.

Heating up

$0.55

The manual's 30 minute warm-up at full power: 3 kilowatt hours.

Warm-up and a session

$1.10

Sixty minutes in all, using the manual's 30 minute session: 6 kilowatt hours.

Four sessions a week, a year

$229

208 hours of heater time: 1,248 kilowatt hours.

All three assume the heater never pauses, which it does once the cabin reaches the set temperature, so these are the most it can cost. In cold weather, allow a longer warm-up than the manual's 30 minutes.

Assembly

SunRay Solace barrel sauna assembly, step by step

SunRay's barrel manual covers every model in the series and asks for at least two to three adults.

It starts on the foundation. The bottom supports go down on the level pad, a metal strip is laid over them about 39 inches from the left end, and the bottom panel sits in the middle with eight slats placed to its left and right. The back wall sections are screwed together and stood up, then the front wall goes in the same way, with the roof's middle strip set in place.

The remaining staves follow around the curve, with every third or fourth one screwed to the frame through the factory drilled holes. The metal bands close around the barrel and pull it tight with the latch bolts. Inside, the floor goes in and the back wall bars are tightened, then the bench supports, benches and backrests. Outside, the shingle tiles screw onto the roof, and the door handle, the stove frame and the accessories finish it.

The last step is the dome light: fixed to the back wall where you want it, its white wire run around the edge in the supplied clips to the heater, to be connected by your electrician.

Delivery day

How the SunRay Solace barrel sauna is delivered

Freight is free to the lower 48. The freight company calls to fix a window, and it arrives at the curb on a lift gate truck. The buy box gives the estimate in business days.

Ahead of time

Have the pad ready and your helpers booked. An adult must be there to sign.

At the curb

Check every carton and the pallet before signing. Photograph damage and write it on the delivery receipt.

Unpacking

Look over the glass door and the staves before the packing material is thrown away.

Damage goes on the receipt before the driver goes. Then call us at (888) 500-5675 while the truck is still there, and we work out with you whether to accept it. Carrier damage sits outside the warranty, so that note matters. The SunRay shipping policy has the detail.

Returns. A barrel can come back within 20 days from the date it ships, unassembled and in its original crate. If you change your mind, you pay the return freight and a 20% restocking fee may apply; the original shipping is never deducted. Read the SunRay return policy before you start one.

Take the Solace for two people and the smallest pad. Twelve inches more length buys the Aurora, which SunRay seats two to four on longer benches facing each other. The Galley is the long one, built for four.

Warranty

What the SunRay Solace barrel sauna warranty covers

SunRay's warranty certificate governs, and SunRay confirmed to us that it is the single current document.

SunRay Saunas Warranty Certificate
Structure 10 years: wooden panels, flooring, ceiling and glass; the parts to fix a defect
Heater and electrical 1 year, replacement parts; no labor
Outdoor condition Without a weather cover, reseal the exterior every year
Scope Residential use, the original buyer at the original delivery address; not transferable

Surface cracks and minor blemishes are normal in wood and not defects. SunRay decides what caused a fault, needs to agree in writing before any repair you want paid back, and may send a whole replacement where a structural defect cannot be fixed with parts; assembling that replacement is up to the owner. Commercial use, carrier damage, alterations, misuse and installation against the instructions are not covered, and SunRay asks that the inside is cleaned only with a water soluble cleaner for unfinished wood. Full terms: the SunRay warranty policy, with the certificate on request.

Buyer questions

SunRay Solace barrel sauna questions

How big is the SunRay Solace barrel sauna?

72 inches wide, 49 inches front to back and 76 inches tall on its cradles, per SunRay's barrel manual. Inside it is 69 by 39 inches with a 69 inch ceiling. SunRay calls it a 4 by 6 foot barrel.

How many people fit in the SunRay Solace?

Two adults, on facing benches. For two to four, SunRay's Aurora is 12 inches longer with longer benches, and the Galley seats four.

What heater comes with the SunRay Solace?

A 6 kW Harvia electric heater with sauna stones, in a wooden stove frame. Parts of SunRay's own Solace listing say 4.5 kW, but the barrel manual's model table gives 6,000 W for the Solace, as do SunRay's product title and its list of what is included.

What electrical supply does the SunRay Solace need?

A dedicated 240 V circuit, hard-wired by a licensed electrician. The barrel manual defers voltage and current to the heater manual, and the electrician sizes the circuit from it and the National Electrical Code.

How long does the SunRay Solace take to heat up?

About 30 minutes, per SunRay's barrel manual; allow longer in cold weather. SunRay states a maximum of 170 F, and the manual suggests sessions of 30 minutes or less.

Can the SunRay Solace sit directly on the ground?

No. SunRay's barrel manual asks for a sturdy, level surface such as a concrete pad, a wood deck or pavers, never the bare ground, with a moisture barrier where the base may be damp.

What warranty does the SunRay Solace have?

Ten years on the structure, covering the wooden panels, floor, ceiling and glass, and one year on the heater and electrical parts, parts only. It is for residential use, and an outdoor barrel without a weather cover must have its exterior resealed every year.

How is the SunRay Solace shipped?

By freight, free to the lower 48, to the curb from a lift gate truck after the freight company calls to book a window. An adult signs, damage is noted on the receipt, and the parts are carried to the pad by you.

One last thing

A barrel for two: order the SunRay Solace

A level pad of 72 by 49 inches and a 240 V circuit are all the Solace asks for. Add it to your cart above, and call us if you would like the base or the wiring talked through first.
