How does delivery work?
How does delivery work?
Free to the contiguous 48. What changes across the range is not the cost to you but how it arrives.
Electric heaters ship by parcel. Wall mounted and pillar heaters run roughly 29 to 55 pounds, so they travel as insured ground parcel. No delivery appointment and nobody needs to be home.
Wood burning stoves ship by freight. A stove moves palletized on an LTL carrier. The carrier calls to arrange an appointment window, someone must be there to sign, and it is a curbside drop rather than a carrier leaving it at the door.
Stones ship separately. A heater takes anywhere from one box to thirteen at roughly 44 pounds a box, so stone shipping is charged per box at checkout, including when the stones are ordered with a heater.
When it ships, and how you will know. Most orders ship promptly, though some part numbers are supplied from Finland and take longer, so we confirm the position for your specific model when you order. You get a tracking notification by email once it ships.
Where we ship. The contiguous 48 states. Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Canada are quoted case by case, so contact us before ordering.
If it arrives damaged. Check the carton or pallet for damage while the driver is still there and note any damage on the delivery receipt at the time of signing, then contact us the same day. A clean signature with no damage noted makes a freight claim much harder to win.
What does the warranty cover?
What does the warranty cover?
Residential coverage. Two years on electric heaters, controls and steam generators including the heating elements, and two years on wood burning stoves, running from your date of purchase.
A free third year. Register within 30 days and Harvia adds a third year on electric heaters in residential use. We send you the link and your serial number with your order.
Commercial coverage. Two years on electric heaters, controls and electronics, but six months on heating elements and six months on wood burning stoves.
Professional installation is a condition. Harvia requires that the unit is installed and wired by a licensed electrician, and that proof of professional installation can be presented with a claim. A heater wired by the owner is outside the warranty, so keep your installer's invoice with your receipt.
Not covered. Normal wear, improper installation, poor maintenance, failure to follow the instructions, alterations and improper use. Sauna stones are a consumable and are not covered, and stones Harvia does not specify for your model can void cover.
Transport damage has a seven day limit. Harvia requires damage found on receipt to be reported no later than seven days after delivery. Call us the same day, because a claim is far easier to win with the damage noted on the delivery receipt.
Changing how you use it ends the cover. Moving a heater from a family sauna into a gym, a rental or any other commercial setting ends the residential cover rather than converting it. Tell us before you order if the room will be used commercially.
A callout for a fault that is not covered can be charged. If the defect turns out to fall outside the warranty, Harvia is entitled to charge for the work of finding it, including labour, travel and shipping at actual cost. Call us first and we will work through the symptoms with you before anything is booked.
Who handles it. Harvia US Inc. is the warrantor for North America and we open the claim with them on your behalf. Call (888) 500-5675.
What if I need to return it?
What if I need to return it?
30 days from purchase. The unit must be new, uninstalled and in resalable condition with its original packaging and all included parts. A heater that has been wired in, fired, or loaded with stones counts as installed and cannot be returned.
What a return costs. There is no percentage restocking fee on a standard customer return. You get full credit for the product, less a repackaging fee that typically runs about 20 to 50 dollars depending on the item.
Who pays the return freight. You do on a change of mind. We do, and the distributor does, when the cause is shipping damage or an error on our side, and nothing is deducted for freight in those cases.
Damaged on arrival. A different process, and it is time sensitive. Note the damage on the delivery receipt before you sign, photograph the carton and the contents, and call us the same day. Concealed damage found after signing is much harder to claim, so open the box on delivery day even if you are not installing for weeks.
Sauna stones. Stone is sold by weight and is not returnable once a box is opened.
Controls and accessories. Same 30 day window and the same condition requirement. A control unit that has been wired in cannot be returned.
To start a return. Call (888) 500-5675. A Return Authorization number is required before anything goes back, and product returned without one can be refused.

Harvia Virta Combi Series
Harvia Virta Combi HL90SA 9kW Electric Sauna Heater
The Virta Combi is a Harvia Virta with a steam generator built into the same cabinet. You get 110 lbs of stone for dry heat and loyly, plus a 2.1 kW steamer for the humid end of the range, on one control unit and one footprint.
At 9kW Harvia rates it for rooms up to 494 cubic feet, or 28 to 79 square feet of floor at a minimum ceiling height of 75 inches. The Combi runs from a Harvia CX30C control unit, bought separately and mounted outside the hot room. It has to be the C version, because the steamer needs a humidity sensor as well as a temperature sensor. A plain CX30 will not run this heater.

Harvia Virta Combi HL90SA Features
What you are buying at 9kW
110 lbs of stone
Stone capacity is what separates two heaters of the same output. More stone holds more heat, which means softer steam, a room that recovers faster between ladles, and less swing on the thermostat. Harvia rates this cabinet at 110 lbs of angular split-face stone between 2 and 4 inches.
2.1 kW steamer and a 1.3 gal reservoir
The Combi is two appliances in one cabinet. The stone heater gives you the dry heat and the loyly you get from throwing water on stone, and a 2.1 kW steamer with its own 1.3 gallon (5 litre) reservoir runs for about two hours on a fill and lets you hold a humid room at a lower air temperature. Harvia's manual wires the SA models for automatic filling from a cold water line, or you fill the reservoir by hand before each use while the heater is cold. Drain it after use once the water has cooled.
Steel body, ETL Listed
Steel construction rated IPX4 against splashing, floor mounted, with a maximum thermostat setting of 194°F. Harvia publishes an ETL listing for this heater covering the United States and Canada. ETL is the mark of Intertek, an OSHA-accredited Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory. Installation follows the National Electrical Code and your local code.
Sizing the HL90SA
Is 9kW the right output for your room?
Measure length × width × height in feet. Harvia also publishes a floor area for this model, 28 to 79 square feet, at a minimum room height of 75 inches (1900 mm). The floor figure is the more useful check, because Harvia prints the same 177 cubic foot minimum against every heater in this range.
Cold surfaces change the answer, and a glass door counts. Harvia's manuals treat brick, glass, tile and concrete as non-insulated surface and say to add 1.2 cubic meters of volume for every square meter of it, which works out near 3.9 cubic feet for every square foot. Harvia's own worked examples: a 10 cubic meter room with a glass door behaves like a 12 cubic meter room, and the same room with a 2 by 2 meter brick wall behaves like 15. If you are close to the limit, size up rather than down.
Log walls without insulation heat slowly. Harvia advises multiplying the room volume by 1.5 before choosing output in that case.
Electrical requirements
25 amps per group at 240 volts single phase
Worth settling before you price the electrical work. Harvia's US manual gives the HL90SA a rated amperage of 25 A at 240 volts single phase, with a minimum 10 AWG 90°C copper wire from the power unit to the heater. Harvia specifies this as a two-group connection, at 25 A per group, through a 2-pole, 2-breaker subpanel load center in Harvia's Combi control manual. That figure is per group, not the total the heater draws.
Harvia publishes rated amperage rather than a breaker size, though its Combi control manual does cap the breaker feeding the control's power unit, at 30 A for the 240 volt single phase control. Fixed electric heating counts as a continuous load, so your electrician sizes the conductor and the overcurrent device with headroom above that figure, to the National Electrical Code and to whatever edition your local authority has adopted.
The heater is hardwired. The US manual calls for copper wire rated to 194°F (90°C) within the sauna walls, run in seal tight conduit between the heater and the wall, and it is explicit that pigtails and plugs are not allowed in the sauna room.
Installation must be carried out by a licensed electrician. Harvia's warranty terms require that proof of professional installation is presented, so keep the invoice.

What's in the box
Included with your Virta Combi HL90SA
- Virta Combi HL90SA sauna heater
- Temperature sensor
- Installation and operation manual
- Heater only. A Harvia CX30C control unit is required and sold separately.
- Harvia manufacturer warranty, 2 years residential and 3 years when registered within 30 days, subject to professional installation
Sauna stones are required and are not included. Harvia rates the HL90SA to hold up to 110 lbs of stone. Order about 3 boxes at 44 lbs a box, which over-supplies a little on purpose: stone is natural and varies in shape, so you want enough to choose from and a few spares as they break down. Harvia specifies angular split-face stone 2 to 4 inches across for this range. The code is Harvia's AC3000. It matters, because unsuitable stone packs too tightly, restricts airflow through the heater and can void the warranty. Call (888) 500-5675 and we will add stones to your order. Want it in one order? The Harvia Virta Combi HL90SA package pairs it with a Xenio CX30C or Fenix FX30C Combi control and three boxes of AC3000 stone.

Compare the Virta range
The HL90SA against the rest of the Virta range
Three families share the Virta name. The standard Virta is a dry stone heater. The Virta Combi adds a 2.1 kW steamer and a water reservoir in the same cabinet. The Virta Pro is the commercial tier, wired on 2 or 4 separate supply circuits; the single-phase Combi is wired as two groups through a subpanel load center, as Harvia's Combi control manual shows. Room volumes are Harvia's published maximums.

Harvia Virta Combi HL90SA FAQ
Questions buyers ask about the HL90SA
What size sauna room does the Harvia Virta Combi HL90SA heat?
Harvia rates the HL90SA for rooms up to 494 cubic feet, or 28 to 79 square feet of floor at a minimum ceiling height of 75 inches. Multiply your room length, width and height in feet to get the volume. Non-insulated surface counts, and so does a glass door: Harvia adds 1.2 cubic meters of volume for every square meter of brick, glass, tile or concrete, which is near 3.9 cubic feet for every square foot. Add that before you compare against the range.
Does the HL90SA need a separate control unit?
Yes, and it has to be a Combi control. The HL90SA runs from a Harvia CX30C unit, which carries a humidity sensor as well as a temperature sensor because it is managing the steamer as well as the heater. A plain CX30 will not run this heater. The control unit is bought separately and mounts outside the hot room.
How many circuits does the HL90SA require?
One feed from your panel. Harvia's US manual gives the HL90SA a rated amperage of 25 A at 240 volts single phase, with a minimum 10 AWG 90 degree Celsius copper wire from the power unit to the heater. Harvia's Combi control manual wires it as a two-group connection through a 2-pole, 2-breaker subpanel load center. Harvia publishes rated amperage rather than breaker size, so your electrician sizes the overcurrent device above that figure, because fixed electric heating counts as a continuous load. Harvia's Combi control manual also caps the breaker feeding the control's power unit at 30 A for the 240 volt single phase control, so size the circuit against that cap as well.
How long does the steamer run on one fill?
About two hours. The HL90SA carries a 1.3 gallon (5 litre) reservoir feeding a 2.1 kW steamer. Filled by hand, it takes clean household water while the heater is cold, before every use, and Harvia's manual says to drain it after use once the water has cooled, which clears the impurities evaporation leaves behind. Harvia's manual also wires the SA models for automatic filling from a cold water line with a shut-off valve and vacuum breaker, with a floor drain advised in case of a leak.
What is the difference between the Virta Combi and the standard Virta?
Output and stone capacity are the same. The Combi adds a 2.1 kW steam generator and a water reservoir inside the same cabinet, so you can run the room humid at a lower air temperature instead of only dry and hot. It is a deeper cabinet, it draws more current, and it needs the Combi version of the control unit. If you only want traditional dry heat and loyly, the standard Virta at the same output costs less to buy and to wire.
Are sauna stones included with the Virta Combi HL90SA?
No. Stones are required for operation and are sold separately. Harvia rates the HL90SA to hold up to 110 lbs of stone, and the practical order is about 3 boxes at 44 lbs a box, which over-supplies a little on purpose: stone is natural and varies in shape, so you want enough to choose from and a few spares as they break down. The code is Harvia's AC3000. Harvia specifies angular split-face stone 2 to 4 inches across for this range. Stone that is too small, too flat or the wrong shape packs tightly and restricts the airflow the heater depends on, and Harvia's terms exclude damage caused by stone it does not recommend.
Can I install the Harvia Virta Combi HL90SA myself?
No. The HL90SA is hardwired and must be installed by a licensed electrician to the National Electrical Code and local requirements. Harvia's published warranty terms require that proof of professional installation is presented, so keep the invoice. The US manual specifies copper wire rated to 194 degrees Fahrenheit within the sauna walls, run in seal tight conduit, and states that pigtails and plugs are not allowed in the sauna room.
What warranty comes with this heater?
Harvia covers this heater for 2 years in residential family use, including the heating elements, under the Limited Warranty for Harvia Products dated 18 November 2025. Register the heater with Harvia within 30 days of purchase and Harvia adds a third year, for 3 years in total. Registration is free and takes a couple of minutes. We send you the link and your serial number with your order, so you do not have to go looking for it. In commercial or other non-consumer use the period is 2 years on the heater, controls and electronics, and 6 months on the heating elements. Cover runs from your date of purchase, so keep your receipt. Harvia also requires that the unit is installed and wired by a licensed electrician and that you can show proof of professional installation, so keep your installer's paperwork with it. Transport or storage damage is separate and must be reported no later than seven days after delivery. Harvia US Inc. is the warrantor and handles claims directly, and we open the claim on your behalf. Full terms are on our Harvia warranty policy page.
Is the Virta Combi HL90SA listed for use in the United States?
Harvia publishes an ETL listing for this heater covering the United States and Canada. ETL is the mark of Intertek, an OSHA-accredited Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory. Installation follows the National Electrical Code and your local code.
Does the HL90SA need a GFCI breaker?
Harvia's manual is explicit that the power feed should not be connected through a GFI or residual current device. Local code may require GFCI protection anyway, particularly outdoors or in a wet location, and where the two conflict your inspector decides. Settle it with your electrician before the rough-in rather than at final inspection.
