Shipping & Delivery

Your order ships free from the manufacturer's California warehouse on a strapped pallet via insured LTL freight. Orders are processed within 2 business days, and delivery to most addresses in the contiguous US takes 5–7 business days after shipment. You'll receive a tracking number by email as soon as your order leaves the warehouse.

Scheduling your delivery. The freight carrier will reach out before the truck rolls — most carriers call 24–48 hours ahead to lock in a four-hour delivery window. Some carriers (including R+L) send an email or text the morning of delivery instead. Respond promptly either way. If the carrier can't reach you and misses 2–3 delivery attempts, terminal storage fees kick in and the item may be returned at your expense.

What to expect at delivery. A 53-foot semi-truck arrives at your curbside. The driver uses the truck's built-in liftgate to lower the pallet to ground level — that's where their responsibility ends. Standard delivery does not include bringing the equipment inside, up stairs, or unpacking. Plan ahead: have help available to move it once it's off the truck. Someone must be present to sign for the delivery.

CRITICAL — inspect before you sign. Walk around the pallet and check every box before signing the Bill of Lading. Note any scratches, dents, or scuff marks directly on the delivery receipt. If you see a large hole, crushed corner, or obvious structural damage, refuse the delivery — we'll ship a replacement at no cost. Signing a clean BOL releases the freight carrier from all liability. A damage claim cannot be filed after a clean signature. This takes two minutes and fully protects you.

Good to know. If your address changes after the order ships, contact us immediately — carrier re-routing fees may apply and will add transit time. If your location cannot comfortably accommodate a 53-foot semi-truck (island, remote road, gated community, narrow access), contact us before ordering so we can arrange an appropriate solution.

Free freight applies to standard residential curbside delivery within the contiguous 48 US states. Hawaii, Alaska, and Canada are not available at standard checkout — contact us before ordering for a freight quote. Transit times are carrier estimates, not guarantees. Applies to all Golden Designs Inc. brands: Dynamic Saunas, Maxxus Saunas, and Dynamic Cold Therapy. View our full Shipping & Delivery policy →

Return Policy

We stand behind every product we sell. If it's not the right fit, you have 30 days from delivery to return it — and if you need to cancel before it ships, you can do that within 24 hours of purchase at no charge.

How to start a return. Email us your order number at sales@recoveryroomdirect.com and we'll issue a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number within one business day. Write that number clearly on the outside of every box before handing it to the carrier — the warehouse will not accept returns without it.

Condition required. The item must come back new, unused, and in its original packaging with all components, hardware, and accessories included. Items that have been assembled, used, or modified cannot be returned. Electronic components — power supplies, control panels, and accessories — are non-returnable under manufacturer policy regardless of condition.

What it costs to return. We want to be upfront about this: returning large freight equipment has real costs. The manufacturer charges a 20% restocking fee on all returns, and you are responsible for the return freight. If your original order shipped free, the actual outbound freight cost is also deducted from your refund. Any storage or carrier routing fees incurred during the return process are the buyer's responsibility as well. Once the item arrives at the warehouse and passes inspection, your refund is issued within 5 business days to your original payment method.

Damaged on arrival? That's a different process entirely — and you're fully protected. If you refused the delivery and documented the damage on the Bill of Lading, we handle the freight claim and ship you a replacement at no cost. No restocking fee, no return shipping. This is exactly why we ask you to inspect carefully before you sign.

The manufacturer warranty covers defects that arise after the 30-day return window. See full warranty terms at goldendesigninc.com. Questions about your order? Call us at 1-888-500-5675 or email sales@recoveryroomdirect.com — Mon–Sat, 9am–6pm EST. Applies to all Golden Designs Inc. brands: Dynamic Saunas, Maxxus Saunas, and Dynamic Cold Therapy. Ice management at daily frequency costs more than most people realize.

At 3 sessions per week, reaching 50°F in a 42" barrel requires roughly 35–50 lbs of ice per session. At $0.15–$0.20/lb from a grocery or convenience store, that’s $5–$10 per session — up to $120–$160 per month just in ice. Daily use pushes that to $300–$450 monthly. Within 7–10 months of daily use, a chiller pays for itself in ice savings alone, and eliminates the friction of sourcing, hauling, and managing ice for every session.

But the real value of the DCT chiller isn’t the economics — it’s the consistency. Ice baths fluctuate in temperature as ice melts during the session. A chiller holds your target temperature to within ±1°F for the duration of your immersion and maintains it between sessions. If you schedule a 6am plunge, the water is already at 50°F when you walk in. No prep. No ice run. No temperature guess.

The built-in ozone system and inline filter extend water change intervals from weekly to monthly under normal use, which compounds the maintenance advantage over the life of your practice.

How the DCT Chiller Works

The DCT 0.8HP Chiller is a refrigeration and filtration unit that connects to your cold plunge tub’s inlet and outlet valves. Water circulates from the tub through the chiller, is cooled (or heated) to your target temperature, filtered, ozone-treated, and returned to the tub. Here’s the cycle in detail:

1
Water Leaves the Tub via Outlet Valve The chiller’s pump draws water from the tub through the outlet hose connection. This creates continuous circulation — stagnant water in a cold plunge without circulation grows bacteria significantly faster than circulated water.
2
Strainer Catches Large Debris The built-in strainer is the first stage, catching any visible particles before water enters the refrigeration system. Clean the strainer basket periodically — it’s accessible without tools from the rear of the unit.
3
Inline Filter Removes Particulates After the strainer, the filter cartridge removes fine particulates that make water cloudy. This is what keeps the water visually clear between sessions. Replace the filter cartridge on the schedule outlined in the owner’s manual (typically monthly to quarterly depending on usage).
4
Refrigeration Cools (or Heats) to Target The 0.8HP compressor refrigerates the water to your target temperature using the same vapor-compression refrigeration cycle used in air conditioners and refrigerators. Cooling time from tap water to 50°F: typically 2–4 hours depending on starting temperature and ambient conditions. The unit also heats — useful for warm plunge protocols.
5
Ozone Sanitizes Before Return Before the water returns to the tub, the ozone generator exposes it to ozone (O⊂3;) — a natural oxidizer that neutralizes bacteria, viruses, and organic contaminants more effectively than chlorine at cold temperatures. Ozone dissipates before the water re-enters the tub, leaving no residual odor or chemical taste.
6
Clean Water Returns via Inlet Valve Cooled, filtered, and ozone-treated water returns to the tub through the inlet hose. The cycle repeats continuously, maintaining both temperature and water quality simultaneously without any effort on your part.

37°F Minimum Cooling

The DCT 0.8HP chiller reaches down to 37°F (2.8°C) — colder than most research protocols require. Advanced practitioners who work at 40–45°F have significant headroom. Note: actual minimum achievable temperature is also affected by ambient air temperature.

±1°F Temperature Precision

The thermostat maintains your target temperature to within approximately ±1°F during steady-state operation. Set it once, and your plunge is always at protocol temperature — whether you last used it 2 hours ago or 2 days ago.

0.8HP Compressor Capacity

The 0.8 horsepower compressor is sized for the DCT barrel and comparable single-person cold plunge tubs (up to approximately 150 gallons). For oversized tubs or commercial multi-user applications, consider the DCT 1.0HP model.

WiFi App: Your Plunge, Ready When You Are

The DCT chiller connects to the Tuya Smart platform — the same WiFi home automation system used across thousands of smart home devices. Download the free Tuya Smart or Smart Life app on iOS or Android, pair the chiller to your home WiFi, and you can monitor and control temperature from anywhere with a cell or WiFi connection.

In practice, the app matters most for one thing: scheduling. Set the chiller to begin cooling at 5am for a 6am plunge. Go to sleep. Wake up to a ready tub. Without app scheduling, you either run the chiller 24/7 (effective but uses more electricity) or turn it on manually 2–4 hours before each session. The scheduling eliminates that timing friction entirely.

Remote Temperature Control View the current water temperature and set target temperature from anywhere. Useful for checking that your plunge is at target before you head to the room, or adjusting temperature mid-session from outside the tub.
Schedule-Based On/Off Program the chiller to power on and begin cooling on a daily schedule. Set it to your typical morning or post-workout timing and stop manually managing pre-cooling. The schedule runs every day automatically until you change it.
Power On/Off Remotely Turn the unit on from your phone when plans change — heading home early, postponing a session, or adding a spontaneous afternoon plunge. No need to physically reach the unit for routine power management.
Temperature History The app logs water temperature over time, allowing you to review whether the chiller maintained your target temperature as scheduled and track patterns in your cold water therapy practice.

Water Maintenance: What the Ozone + Filter System Actually Does

Without a chiller, a cold plunge tub is a static body of cold water that requires draining and refilling every 1–2 weeks. With the DCT chiller’s three-stage water management system, most users extend that interval to 4–8 weeks under normal residential use — without adding chemicals. Here’s what each system does:

Strainer Basket — First Stage Catches leaves, debris, skin particles, and other visible matter before it reaches the filter. The basket is removable and cleanable without tools. Check and empty weekly or after outdoor sessions when debris accumulation is higher.
Inline Filter Cartridge — Second Stage Removes fine particulates that cause cloudiness — the microscopic matter the strainer doesn’t catch. A clean filter is what keeps your water visually clear between full water changes. Replace the cartridge monthly to quarterly depending on usage frequency and how well you pre-shower.
Ozone Generator — Third Stage Ozone (O⊂3;) is a powerful oxidizer that neutralizes bacteria, biofilm, and organic contaminants. Unlike chlorine, ozone dissipates rapidly and leaves no residual taste, odor, or chemical byproducts in the water. The DCT’s ozone system runs automatically with the chiller during normal operation — sanitizing continuously without manual chemical addition.

Chiller vs. Ice: Full Comparison

For buyers deciding between starting with ice management and adding the chiller later vs. buying both together now — here’s the honest breakdown:

Ice Management Only DCT 0.8HP Chiller ✓
Upfront Cost $0 (tub only) $3,299 (added to tub cost)
Monthly Cost (Daily Use) $300–$450 in ice $15–$30 in electricity
Break-Even vs. Ice ~7–10 months at daily use
Minimum Temperature ~38–45°F with heavy ice load 37°F, held precisely
Temperature Precision Drops as ice melts during session ±1°F maintained throughout session
Session Prep Time 15–25 min (hauling + adding ice) 0 min — water is at target when you arrive
Scheduling Capability None — manual prep before every session App scheduling — set-and-forget
Water Clarity Drain & refill weekly or more often Filter + ozone: change water monthly or less
Chemical Addition Required Optional (bromine/shock) for clarity Typically none — ozone handles sanitation
Outdoor Summer Use Possible but requires more ice in heat Functional in most climates up to ~100°F ambient

Honest take: If you’re testing whether a daily cold plunge practice is sustainable for you, starting with ice is a reasonable low-risk entry. But if you’ve already confirmed you want this practice long-term — or you’re setting up a facility where people can’t wait for ice prep — buying the chiller upfront is the better financial and logistical decision. The break-even vs. ice is under a year at daily use, and the friction reduction is immediate and permanent.

Shipping & Setup

FedEx / UPS Ground

The chiller ships via FedEx or UPS Ground — not freight. No pallet, no freight carrier scheduling required. Standard residential or commercial delivery. Estimated transit: 3–7 business days from order depending on destination.

Setup: 30 Minutes or Less

Connect the two hose fittings to your tub’s inlet and outlet valves (hand-tight). Plug the chiller into a standard outlet. Download the Tuya Smart app and follow the in-app pairing instructions. Set your target temperature. Your first cooling cycle begins immediately.

Placement Requirements

Position the chiller within hose-reach of your tub’s valve connections. The unit requires airflow around the condenser (don’t enclose it in a tight cabinet). Outdoors: keep it sheltered from direct rain. Indoors: garage, covered patio, or dedicated utility space works well.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to cool a full barrel from tap water temperature to 50°F?

Cooling time depends on starting water temperature, target temperature, tub volume, and ambient air temperature around the chiller. As a general guideline for the DCT 42" Barrel: from 65°F tap water to 50°F target, expect approximately 2–4 hours with the 0.8HP chiller. In summer with ambient air above 85°F, cooling time increases and minimum achievable temperature rises slightly. In winter or cool indoor environments, the chiller performs faster and can achieve colder temperatures more consistently. This is why scheduling matters — program the chiller to start 3–4 hours before your session and it handles the timing automatically.

Can the chiller also heat the water for warm plunge use?

Yes — the DCT-SY-08-PRO is a chiller and heater. It can heat the water to warm plunge temperatures (typically 98–104°F depending on max heat setting — verify in the product manual for exact upper limit). Some users do contrast therapy protocols: cold plunge for 2–3 minutes, followed by warm immersion, alternating sessions. With a single DCT barrel and this chiller, you can shift between cold and warm settings — though transitioning from one extreme to the other takes several hours. Most contrast users maintain a cold plunge separately from a hot tub or sauna for instant alternation.

Do I need to add any chemicals to the water with the ozone system?

For most residential users under normal conditions (showering before each session, typical municipal water), the ozone system is sufficient to maintain sanitary water between full water changes without chemical additions. Ozone is a more effective sanitizer than chlorine at cold water temperatures where chlorine becomes less active. However, if you use the tub multiple times per day with multiple users, if you skip pre-session showers, or if your source water has high mineral or organic content, you may choose to add a small periodic dose of non-chlorine shock. The chiller does not require chemical addition for warranty purposes — ozone alone is the intended primary sanitation method.

How loud is the chiller during operation?

The DCT-SY-08-PRO operates at refrigerator or window air conditioner noise levels during active cooling cycles — audible at close range but not intrusive from an adjacent room. The compressor cycles on and off to maintain temperature; during maintenance cycles, the unit is quieter. Most users place the chiller in a garage, utility area, or covered outdoor location where operational noise isn’t a concern. If noise is a consideration for your specific placement (near a bedroom window, for instance), verify the decibel rating in the current product specification sheet or contact our team before ordering.

Does the chiller work in hot summer weather outdoors?

Yes, with some performance considerations. Refrigeration efficiency decreases as ambient air temperature around the chiller’s condenser rises. At ambient temperatures above 90–95°F, the chiller’s minimum achievable water temperature rises (you may be limited to 45–50°F rather than 37°F), and cooling time increases. Most users in hot climates achieve functionally cold plunge temperatures (50–55°F) even in summer — this range covers most research protocols. Keep the chiller in a shaded location and ensure adequate airflow around the unit for best summer performance. For extremely hot climates (consistently 100+°F), contact us to discuss whether the 0.8HP or 1.0HP model is more appropriate for your conditions.

How often do I need to maintain the chiller itself?

Routine chiller maintenance is straightforward: (1) Clean the strainer basket weekly or as needed — it’s accessible without tools. (2) Replace the filter cartridge monthly to quarterly depending on usage and source water quality. (3) Wipe down the exterior condenser fins periodically to remove dust, leaves, or debris that reduce cooling efficiency. (4) Inspect hose connections seasonally for any wear or drip. The condenser coils themselves don’t require owner maintenance. The ozone system is self-maintaining — no bulb replacement or manual intervention. Full maintenance schedule and procedures are in the owner’s manual included with the unit.

Will this chiller work with a non-DCT cold plunge tub I already own?

The DCT chiller uses standard hose fitting connections — the same connection type used by most cold plunge chillers and spa equipment on the market. It is compatible with many third-party cold plunge tubs that have pre-installed or user-installable inlet/outlet valve fittings. If your existing tub doesn’t have valve fittings, basic plumbing fittings can be installed by a plumber or handy DIYer. Call us at (888) 500-5675 with your tub model and we’ll confirm compatibility before you order.

What is covered under the 1-year warranty?

The DCT-SY-08-PRO carries a 1-year manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship — covering the compressor, refrigeration system, ozone generator, filter housing, and electrical components under normal residential use. The warranty does not cover damage from improper installation, exposure to conditions beyond the unit’s rated operating range, or normal filter/strainer consumable replacement. As an authorized DCT dealer, Recovery Room Direct supports warranty claims — contact us at (888) 500-5675 if you experience any issues after purchase.
