3 Person Saunas

Three seats is where the sauna aisle splits down the middle. Roughly half of these 3 person saunas are infrared cabins on 120V; the rest are traditional and hybrid rooms on 240V, indoors or in the yard. We carry all three heat types as a factory-authorized dealer. Call (888) 500-5675 and we'll go through what each side asks of your room and your electrician.

3 Person Saunas: Where Infrared and Traditional Split

A three person sauna is the size where infrared cabins and stove-heated rooms sit in roughly equal numbers. Infrared cabins stay indoors on 120V; traditional and hybrid rooms need 240V and go inside or out.

Below, the split one decision at a time: bench room, heat type, circuits and setting.

How Much Bench Three People Actually Get

Three is the maker's seated rating; bench width decides whether that means three shoulder to shoulder or two leaning back.

Straight infrared cabins

One long back bench

About 51 to 58 in wide inside, where listed

Roughly five feet across outside, with 6 to 16 inches more bench than a full 2 person cabin.

Fits: three upright, or two with elbow room

Corner infrared cabins

The bench turns the corner

About 56 by 56 in inside, where listed

Seating runs along two walls on a squarer footprint, for a room corner a long cabin would block.

Fits: a square spot in a basement or spare room

Traditional and hybrid rooms

More height, more floor

About 75 to 98 in tall outside

Most stand taller than the infrared cabins, and some are close to square inside.

Fits: a taller room, inside or in the yard

A few rooms carry a range rating, such as 2 to 3 or 3 to 4, so a title may say 2-Person or 4-Person. Our guide on where to put a sauna covers the step from 2 to 3 person, which can also change the circuit.

3 Person Infrared Sauna, Traditional or Hybrid: The Even Split

Infrared cabins and stove-heated rooms split almost evenly here, and the hybrids sit on the stove side of the wiring.

Infrared

Radiant panels, indoor cabins

Indoors only here, on 120V

Carbon panels warm you at up to about 140°F where listed, some paired with near infrared elements or a ceramic heater. Each one runs on 120V.

Suits: frequent sessions without a 240V run

Traditional

Electric stove and stones

240V, indoors or outdoors

Water on hot stones makes steam; rooms sold with a stove list up to 190°F. Some rooms and kits leave the heater to you.

Suits: three who want heat and steam

Hybrid

Stove and infrared, one room

One 240V circuit for both

Infrared panels and an electric stove share the room, and the makers' manuals say you run one or the other, never both at once. Most hybrids here are outdoor rooms.

Suits: a household split on heat

Want near infrared elements too? Some cabins here also sit among our full spectrum saunas. Stove-plus-infrared rooms in other sizes are on our hybrid saunas page.

Power for a 3 Person Sauna: 120V or 240V, per the Manual

Each row follows the manufacturers' manuals. Your licensed electrician sizes the breaker and wire.

The manuals we checked for 3 person infrared cabins call for a dedicated 120V, 20A circuit, so nothing else on that breaker runs during a session. A model may instead call for two separate 15A circuits. GFCI guidance differs by maker and some manuals are silent, so your electrician applies the manual and local code.

Swipe the table sideways to see every column.

Your 3 person setup Who connects it Power, per the manual Where it goes
Infrared cabin You plug it in, once the circuit exists 120V, on a dedicated 20A circuit per the manuals we checked Indoors
Traditional room, stove included A licensed electrician, for both circuits 240V stove circuit (30A or 40A by stove) plus a 120V, 15A circuit for controls and lights Indoors or outdoors, by model
Hybrid room A licensed electrician One 240V circuit that feeds the stove and the infrared panels Indoors or outdoors, by model
Room or kit, heater sold separately A licensed electrician, working from the heater's manual 240V, sized to the heater you choose (6 to 8 kW on the makers' lists) Indoors or outdoors, by model
The costly mistake at this size: choosing the seat count before the heat type. Each side of the split needs different circuits, so settle heat type before booking the electrician.

3 Person Outdoor Sauna or an Indoor Room?

Every infrared cabin here is listed for indoor use, so going outside means a stove-heated or hybrid room.

Indoors, compare your ceiling with the listed exterior height and give the cabin a level, solid floor.

Outdoors, the base comes first: a level surface such as concrete, pavers, gravel or a solid deck that carries the room with people inside, which the makers' manuals say can exceed 1,000 pounds.

Then the power run: a 240V line from your panel, plus the 120V, 15A circuit that traditional rooms sold with a stove call for, with wire your electrician sizes to the distance. Ask your building department whether the project needs a permit.

Freight on most models is included to the contiguous 48 states, curbside, while some outdoor kits charge it at checkout. Our outdoor page sets each 3 person outdoor sauna beside larger rooms.

What Changes the Total on a 3 Person Sauna

Prices sit on each product card; the heat type decides most of the rest.

Cost item What drives it at three seats
Heat system Infrared cabins include their panels; stove rooms include the stove or list it apart; hybrids carry both systems.
Wood and emitters Hemlock, cedar or thermally modified (heat-treated) wood, the EMF tier, and any full spectrum elements.
Wiring A dedicated 20A line for most infrared cabins, or 240V work for a stove or hybrid room, longer in the yard.
Setup Professional Setup and Assembly is offered on most models here, priced for indoor rooms and quoted for outdoor sites. Wiring stays with your licensed electrician.
Running cost About 2 kW for these infrared cabins against 6 to 8 kW for the stoves; the FAQ shows the math.

Before You Order a 3 Person Sauna: Five Checks

Most depend on your side of the split.

  • Count regulars, not guests. Two people who want room to spread out fit three seats well; four regulars belong a size up.
  • Ask about spare panel space. A 240V stove circuit needs room in your panel, plus a 120V, 15A circuit on traditional rooms sold with a stove; your electrician confirms the space.
  • Ask your electrician about GFCI. Some makers advise against a GFCI outlet for the sauna and some manuals say nothing; your electrician applies the manual and local code.
  • Skip the extension cord. The infrared manuals we checked rule out extension cords and plug adapters between the sauna and the wall outlet.
  • Confirm the heater guard. Code requires a guard around a sauna heater, so on rooms or kits sold without a stove, check that one is included and fits your heater.

Who Chooses a 3 Person Sauna

Two, with room to spare

The pair who size up

Two regulars who would rather lean back than sit shoulder to shoulder, usually in an indoor infrared cabin.

The household that disagrees

One wants radiant warmth, one wants steam. A hybrid room keeps both under one roof on a single 240V circuit.

3 Person Sauna Questions, Answered

How big is a 3 person sauna?

Straight infrared cabins here are roughly five feet wide outside and give about 51 to 58 inches of bench width inside, where listed. Listed corner cabins run about 56 inches along each inside wall. Stove-heated rooms run from about 61 by 50 inches of ground and 75 inches high up to about 84 by 74 inches and 98 inches high.

Does a 3 person infrared sauna need a dedicated circuit?

Yes, on the manuals we checked. These cabins run on 120V, and their manuals call for a dedicated 20A circuit with nothing else drawing power from that breaker. A model may instead list two separate 15A circuits. Call (888) 500-5675 to read its manual together before you order.

Does a 3 person traditional sauna need 240V?

Yes. Every traditional and hybrid room here needs 240V. Traditional rooms sold with a stove add a separate 120V, 15A circuit for controls and lights, while hybrids use one 240V circuit. A licensed electrician connects them and sizes the breaker and wire from the manual and local code.

Is a 3 person sauna big enough for two people to stretch out?

To lean back, yes. Seat ratings count people upright, so two adults in a straight three seat cabin share roughly a foot more bench than a full 2 person cabin gives. No rating promises room to lie down, so compare the inside width on the listing with your height.

Can a 3 person sauna go outside?

Only an outdoor model. Every infrared cabin here is listed for indoor use, so outdoor choices are traditional and hybrid rooms, such as barrels, cubes, cabins and barn-style rooms. Each needs a level base and a 240V line, and traditional rooms sold with a stove also need a 120V, 15A circuit.

What size heater does a 3 person traditional sauna use?

Room volume sets it, not the seat count. Rooms sold with a stove here ship with 6 or 8 kW, and rooms or kits without one list 6 to 8 kW choices. Typical heater manuals list about 25 amps at 240V for 6 kW and about 33 for 8 kW, and your electrician sizes the circuit above that.

Can I run the infrared and the stove together in a 3 person hybrid?

No. The makers' manuals for these hybrid rooms say you run either the stove or the infrared panels, never both at the same time, and one 240V circuit feeds both. Choose infrared for lower, radiant heat, or the stove for higher heat and steam on the stones.

How much does a 3 person sauna cost to run?

Take the rated kilowatts, times the hours it runs with warm-up, times your electricity rate. An infrared cabin rated about 2 kW uses about 6 kWh over three hours at full rated power. An 8 kW stove can use up to 24 kWh in that time, and less once it cycles at temperature.
