How does delivery work?

Free freight to the lower 48. Your order ships on a strapped pallet by insured LTL freight from the manufacturer's California warehouse.

When it ships. Orders are processed within 2 to 5 business days depending on the brand, and delivery to most addresses in the contiguous US takes 5 to 14 business days after shipment. Transit times are carrier estimates, not guarantees.

How you will know. You get a tracking number by email as soon as your order leaves the warehouse. Most carriers then call 24 to 48 hours ahead to lock in a four hour window, and some send an email or text the morning of delivery instead. Respond promptly either way, because missed attempts trigger terminal storage fees.

How it arrives. A 53 foot semi truck arrives at your curbside and the driver delivers the pallet to the curb. Liftgate service is not included as standard, and standard delivery does not include bringing the equipment inside, up stairs, or unpacking. Someone must be present to sign.

If it arrives damaged. Walk around the pallet and check every box before signing the Bill of Lading. Cosmetic damage can be accepted, but if a carton is punctured or crushed, refuse that item and call us on (888) 500-5675 while the driver is still there. Note the damage on the Bill of Lading, photograph it, and contact us within 48 hours. Once the damage is documented on the Bill of Lading we can file a valid freight claim and ship a replacement at no cost to you. Signing a clean Bill of Lading releases the carrier, and claims filed after one are routinely denied. If you refuse for a reason other than damage, or without contacting us first, return freight costs may become your responsibility.

Where it ships. Free freight covers standard residential curbside delivery within the contiguous 48 states. Hawaii, Alaska and Canada are not available at standard checkout, so contact us before ordering for a freight quote.

What does the warranty cover?

How long. Cold plunge tubs carry a 1-year limited warranty, when bought from an authorized dealer in undamaged original packaging.

What is covered. Defects in materials and workmanship. The polycarbonate insert, the wooden shell and trim and all other components each carry 1 year, and chillers carry a 1-year manufacturer warranty. Insulated covers carry 1 year, neoprene hose covers 90 days, and replacement filters are consumables with no warranty.

Labor. Any labor cost associated with a claim is not covered. Coverage applies to the original purchaser and is not transferable.

What you have to do. Keep the water balanced and do not let it freeze. Corrosion from poor water maintenance and freeze damage are the two most common reasons a claim is declined. Keep your proof of purchase.

What is not covered. Fading or discoloration from UV exposure, damage from storage in below-freezing temperatures, and corrosion or discoloration caused by lack of water maintenance.

What if I need to return it?

30 days from delivery. The item must come back new, unused and in its original packaging with all components, hardware and accessories. Anything assembled, used or modified cannot be returned, and electronic components such as power supplies and control panels are non returnable under manufacturer policy regardless of condition.

What a return costs. The manufacturer may charge a 20 percent restocking fee, and you are responsible for the return freight. The original shipping cost is not deducted from your refund. Any storage or carrier routing fees incurred during the return are the buyer's responsibility.

Damaged on arrival. A different process, and you are fully protected. If you accepted the delivery and documented the damage on the Bill of Lading, we handle the freight claim and ship a replacement at no cost, with no restocking fee and no return shipping.

Cancelling before it ships. No fee as long as we have not yet submitted your order to the manufacturer. After we submit it but before it ships, an administrative fee of up to 5 percent may apply, and we waive it whenever we are not charged.

To start a return. Email your order number to sales@recoveryroomdirect.com and we issue a Return Merchandise Authorization number within one business day. Write it clearly on every box, because the warehouse will not accept returns without it. Refunds are issued within 5 business days of inspection.

Which brands. Applies to all Golden Designs Inc. brands: Dynamic Saunas, Maxxus Saunas and Dynamic Cold Therapy.

Ice management at daily frequency costs more than most people realize.

A chiller replaces the ice run. What it costs to run is arithmetic: 890 watts of rated input, times the hours it runs, times your electricity rate. At the US residential average of 18.34 cents per kilowatt hour (EIA Electric Power Monthly, June 2026) that is about 16 cents an hour, or about 98 cents for a six hour run. Ice prices vary too much by region for us to put a figure on what you spend today.

But the real value of the DCT chiller isn’t the economics, it is the consistency. Ice baths fluctuate in temperature as ice melts during the session. A chiller holds the temperature you set and keeps it there between sessions, so a scheduled plunge is ready when you walk in. No prep, no ice run.

The built in ozone and the filter are why Dynamic Cold Therapy recommends changing the water at least weekly with a chiller, against every 3 to 5 days without one.

How the DCT Chiller Works

The DCT 0.8HP Chiller is a refrigeration and filtration unit that connects to your cold plunge tub’s inlet and outlet valves. Water circulates from the tub through the chiller, is cooled (or heated) to your target temperature, filtered, ozone-treated, and returned to the tub. Here’s the cycle in detail:

1
Water Leaves the Tub via Outlet Valve The chiller’s pump draws water from the tub through the outlet hose connection. This creates continuous circulation while the chiller runs.
2
Strainer Catches Large Debris The built-in strainer is the first stage, catching any visible particles before water enters the refrigeration system. Clean the strainer basket periodically. It is accessible without tools from the rear of the unit.
3
Inline Filter Removes Particulates After the strainer, the filter cartridge removes fine particulates that make water cloudy. This is what keeps the water visually clear between sessions. The manual asks for a new 20 micron cartridge about every 20 plunges, or as needed. Three come with the chiller.
4
Refrigeration Cools (or Heats) to Target The 0.8HP compressor refrigerates the water to your target temperature using the same vapor-compression refrigeration cycle used in air conditioners and refrigerators. The manual’s reference rate is 1 to 3°F every 40 minutes, so 65°F tap water to 50°F works out at about 3 to 10 hours by our arithmetic, and the manufacturer’s delivery guide says pre-chilling takes 1 to 4 hours. The unit also heats.
5
Ozone Sanitizes Before Return Before the water returns to the tub, the built in ozone generator treats it. The manual asks you to set the ozone to run 2 to 5 minutes, and the product guide gives the setting as adjustable from 0 to 5 minutes, activating every 15. Both are clear that ozone supports water treatment rather than replacing it.
6
Clean Water Returns via Inlet Valve Cooled, filtered, and ozone-treated water returns to the tub through the inlet hose. The cycle repeats continuously, maintaining both temperature and water quality simultaneously without any effort on your part.

37°F Minimum Cooling

The DCT 0.8HP chiller reaches down to 37°F (2.8°C) by the manual. The air around the chiller affects the lowest temperature it can actually reach, and the manual gives a working air range of 34°F to 113°F, against 41°F to 104°F in the product guide.

2,230 W Cooling Capacity

The manual gives 2,230 W of cooling for 890 W of input and an 11.3 A maximum current, with a reference cooling rate of 1 to 3°F every 40 minutes. The 1.0 HP model is twice as fast at that reference rate.

0.8HP Compressor Capacity

Dynamic Cold Therapy publishes no maximum tub size, and says every DCT chiller works with every DCT cold plunge. Its product guide suits this chiller to daily runs of 4 to 6 hours, once or twice a day, in cooler climates or temperature controlled rooms. For faster pull down, the 1.0 HP model cools at twice the reference rate.

WiFi App: Your Plunge, Ready When You Are

The DCT chiller connects through the Tuya Smart app, which the manual lists for Android and iOS. Download the free Tuya Smart or Smart Life app on iOS or Android, pair the chiller to your home WiFi, and you can monitor and control temperature from anywhere with a cell or WiFi connection.

In practice, the app matters most for one thing: scheduling. Set the chiller to begin cooling at 5am for a 6am plunge. Go to sleep. Wake up to a ready tub. Without app scheduling, you either run the chiller 24/7 (effective but uses more electricity) or turn it on manually a few hours before each session. The scheduling eliminates that timing friction entirely.

Remote Temperature Control View the current water temperature and set target temperature from anywhere. Useful for checking that your plunge is at target before you head to the room, or adjusting temperature mid-session from outside the tub.
Schedule-Based On/Off Program the chiller to power on and begin cooling on a daily schedule. Set it to your typical morning or post-workout timing and stop manually managing pre-cooling. The schedule runs every day automatically until you change it.
Power On/Off Remotely Turn the unit on from your phone when plans change, such as heading home early, postponing a session, or adding a spontaneous afternoon plunge. No need to physically reach the unit for routine power management.
Temperature History The app logs water temperature over time, allowing you to review whether the chiller maintained your target temperature as scheduled and track patterns in your cold water therapy practice.

Water Maintenance: What the Ozone + Filter System Actually Does

Without a chiller, the tub manual says to replace the water every 3 to 5 days. With a chiller filtering and running ozone, Dynamic Cold Therapy recommends changing it at least once a week, more often with heavy use. Here is what each stage does:

Strainer Basket, First Stage Catches leaves, debris, skin particles, and other visible matter before it reaches the filter. The basket is removable and cleanable without tools. The manual asks you to check the mesh strainer at least once a month, and whenever the flow drops or you change the filter.
Inline Filter Cartridge, Second Stage Removes the fine particulates that make water cloudy. The manual asks for a new 20 micron cartridge about every 20 plunges, or as needed, and three are included.
Ozone Generator, Third Stage Ozone oxidizes bacteria and organic matter in the water. The manual asks you to set it to run 2 to 5 minutes, and the product guide gives the setting as adjustable from 0 to 5 minutes, activating every 15. The manual is explicit that ozone supports water treatment rather than replacing it: it asks for a spa shock oxidizer, daily testing, pH 7.2 to 7.8 and alkalinity 125 to 150 ppm, and excludes damage from untreated water from the warranty.

Compatible Tubs & the Barrel + Chiller Setup

The DCT 0.8HP chiller is designed to pair with DCT cold plunge tubs via the included hose connections. The Barrel, Cuboid, Cuboid XL, and Oval tubs all ship with pre-installed inlet and outlet valves for direct chiller connection. Setup requires no plumbing: connect the hoses hand tight to the tub valves and to the chiller’s inlet and outlet ports.

Chiller vs. Ice: Full Comparison

For buyers deciding between starting with ice management and adding the chiller later vs. buying both together now, here is the breakdown:

Ice Management Only DCT 0.8HP Chiller ✓
Ongoing cost Varies by region and ice price About 16 cents an hour of rated input, about 98 cents for a six hour run
Break even vs. ice Depends on what ice costs where you are, so we do not publish a payback period
Minimum Temperature Depends on how much ice you add Cools to 37°F and holds the setting
Temperature control Drops as ice melts during the session Holds the temperature you set
Session Prep Time An ice run and a load before each session None once the water is at temperature
Scheduling Capability None, manual prep before every session App scheduling
Water Clarity The tub manual says replace the water every 3 to 5 days The manufacturer recommends changing it at least weekly
Chemical Addition Required The manual allows pool chemicals used sparingly, and advises against bromine Still needed: the manual asks for treated, balanced water and calls ozone a support, not a replacement
Outdoor Summer Use Needs more ice in heat Working air range 34°F to 113°F in the manual, 41°F to 104°F in the product guide

Honest take: Ice is the low commitment way to find out whether the habit sticks. A chiller removes the ice run, holds the temperature you set and filters the water, and the product guide suits this model to daily runs of 4 to 6 hours. What it saves against ice depends entirely on local ice prices, so we will not put a payback figure on it.

Shipping & Setup

Free Freight Shipping

Ships free to the contiguous 48 states from the manufacturer’s California warehouse, on a pallet by insured LTL freight, delivered curbside. Typical transit is 5 to 14 business days after the order is processed, and you get a tracking number by email when it ships.

Setup

Stand the chiller upright for at least 20 minutes before its first start, so the compressor fluid settles. Wrap the threads with Teflon tape, connect the two hoses to your tub’s inlet and outlet hand tight, fit the filter and strainer, plug into a dedicated 15 A GFCI outlet, and pair the Tuya app on 2.4 GHz WiFi. Check the flow reads above 15 liters a minute.

Placement

The manual asks for 36 inches clear in front of the cooling fan and 3 feet between the system and any wall, never inside a closet or cabinet, and at least 6 feet between the tub and the outlet. Keep it level with the tub. The chillers are rated for outdoor use but are not weather-proofed, so keep rain off it and give it shade.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to cool a full barrel from tap water temperature to 50°F?

The manual gives a reference rate of 1 to 3°F every 40 minutes, and marks it for reference only. Taking 65°F tap water to 50°F is a 15°F drop, so that works out at about 3 to 10 hours by our arithmetic. The manufacturer’s delivery guide says pre-chilling takes 1 to 4 hours depending on the tub and the starting temperature. Warm air and an uncovered tub push it slower, which is why the app lets you schedule the start.

Can the chiller also heat the water for warm plunge use?

Yes, it cools and heats. It holds water anywhere from 37°F to 85°F. Moving the same tub between cold and warm takes hours, so most people keep a plunge and a sauna or hot tub separately if they want to alternate.

Do I need to add any chemicals to the water with the ozone system?

Yes. The chiller manual is explicit: leaving the water untreated can cause rapid erosion of the system and is not covered by the warranty. It asks for a spa shock oxidizer, daily testing, pH 7.2 to 7.8 and total alkalinity 125 to 150 ppm, and treats the built in ozone as support rather than a replacement for treatment. The tub manual allows pool chemicals such as chlorine used sparingly, and the manufacturer’s FAQ advises against bromine, which it calls especially corrosive to its tubs and chillers.

How loud is the chiller during operation?

Dynamic Cold Therapy’s FAQ gives its chillers about 60 to 65 decibels, and says a unit sounds louder while the ozone is running. It needs 36 inches of clear air in front of the fan and 3 feet to any wall, so it cannot be boxed in to quieten it. Worth thinking about under a bedroom window or against a neighbour’s fence.

Does the chiller work in hot summer weather outdoors?

Within limits. The manual gives a working air range of 34°F to 113°F, and the product guide a narrower 41°F to 104°F, so we would plan around the narrower one. The manufacturer’s FAQ says the chillers are rated for outdoor use but are not weather-proofed, and that direct sun on the ambient sensor can make it read very high and stop the unit, so keep it shaded and dry. The product guide suits this model to cooler climates or temperature controlled rooms, and the 1.0 HP to faster pull down; call us if your summers are long and hot.

How often do I need to maintain the chiller itself?

From the manual: replace the 20 micron cartridge about every 20 plunges or as needed, and three are included. Check and clean the mesh strainer at least once a month, and whenever the flow drops below 15 liters a minute. Clean the dust net at least every 3 months so the condenser can work efficiently, wipe down the exterior and fan, and check the hose connections for leaks. Drain the chiller completely before storage, and below 33.8°F, because freeze damage is not covered.

Will this chiller work with a non-DCT cold plunge tub I already own?

The manual gives the chiller 1/2 inch threaded NPT quick connectors, and Dynamic Cold Therapy says every DCT chiller works with every DCT cold plunge, which use 3/4 inch fittings, with adapters supplied. It publishes nothing about other makers’ tubs, so we will not promise a fit. Call us at (888) 500-5675 with your tub model and we’ll confirm compatibility before you order.

What is covered under the 1-year warranty?

Dynamic Cold Therapy gives the chiller a 1 year warranty from the original sale date, to the original purchaser, against defects in materials and workmanship. It excludes damage from use at or below 32°F, damage from poor water chemistry or not changing the water, transport damage, neglected maintenance and labor. As an authorized dealer we open the claim for you. Contact us at (888) 500-5675 if you experience any issues after purchase.
